Moore calls for 'strut and swagger' at E3
EA Sports boss wants expo to 'return to its roots'

EA Sports president Peter Moore has called for E3 to claim back some 'strut and swagger' at next week's expo.

In an exclusive interview with MCV, Moore requested that E3 "return to its roots" after two years of downsizing and disappointment.

He said: “If there was ever a time when our industry needs to look confident and optimistic, it is now.

“The return of the E3 Expo to its roots – of providing a focal point for our products and a strong communication platform for the health and vibrancy of our industry – is welcomed.

“I am truly looking forward to this year’s conference and hope we are able to achieve certain things with the show.

“The first is to ensure that we embrace the games industry’s loyal consumers in more meaningful ways at the event – and not shut them out.

“We also need to demonstrate as a global industry how video games are at the absolute forefront of connected entertainment.

“Finally, we need to regain the industry’s strut and swagger – something that the E3 Expo once so wonderfully portrayed.”

Moore labelled last year's E3 "soulless" after a disappointing showing at the US-centric expo.

THQ on E3: ‘Give us razzmatazz’
International EVP Ian Curran says revamped expo needs to provide 'buzz' and ‘positive PR’ for trade

THQ’s international EVP Ian Curran has told MCV that he wants this year’s E3 to provide the “razzmatazz” that has been sorely lacking at the last two Expos.

His sentiments echo those of EA Sports’ Peter Moore, who has called for a return to E3’s “strut and swagger” at next week’s show.

“E3 needs to re-focus back on the international markets. The show in the past two years has been much too US-focused,” Curran told MCV.

“It also needs to welcome back retail to show. The past few years have been pretty much dedicated to PR, with little focus on retail and distribution partners. Retail needs to see and feel the buzz around the top titles – and this has been missed over the past couple of years.

"European retailers, – especially from the UK – have been crying out for one big show where they can see all the top products under one roof without the need to attend dozens of individual publisher events.

“Finally, it needs to deliver the razzmatazz and positive PR that our industry deserves. We are now bigger than music and film and will have some of the biggest entertainment releases in the year. We have a lot to shout about and E3 can become the mouthpiece to deliver our message.”

Surely the only people who can give E3 back its razzmatazz are the people running the booths?
