Voted for MK 2011. While I've always enjoyed MK for the characters and settings the combat has always been a bit ropey; 2011 is easily the best for the combat.

Pretty annoyed that Scorpion got the best of the superior Sub-Zero in that cockamamie trailer.

Scorpion supremacy 8-)

Choice of music for the trailer was odd. With this being on next gen I wonder how close to the trailer (or how far off) the in game graphics will look. Judging by what was happening during the trailer, looks like they'll be some sort of environmental interactions. One thing i'd like to see them try is something new with the main single player mode.

Hope that shite music never goes beyond the teaser. Terrible choice.

Other than that I'm quite excited by a new MK after the terrific last installment.

If only it would look like that in-game.

I'm confident it'll still look quite nice. The last one was quite good looking.

Looks like they're just adding everything that Injustice brought to the table, like the environment interactions, which is certainly not a bad thing. Injustice still felt "clunky" but it was much quicker and more fluid than MK9. I can't see any innovation though, I imagine the MK games will go through the same cycle as before where they get bigger, more outrageous and eventually bloated. I think this'll be fun though. Like I said, I think it'll be Injustice with MK characters and prettier.

Incredibly boring box art, though saying that I would've prefered the dragon logo

Missing from the list is the N64's Mortal Kombat Gold - the definitive iteration of part three's gameplay but with every character to that point and a shitload else besides. The cartridge format also sped up the game considerably (and there were none of the horrendous disc-induced pauses whenever Shan Tsung morphed like on the Saturn and PSX).

With a six-button layout (ideal for the N64 pad) including block and run, the combo-system was pre-set but allowed for many improvised 'juggles', resulting in 14 + hit combo's (my personal best with Jax) at a time when every hit was a perfectly timed button press. I often wonder why they didnt just translate that system into the 3D games since it was much better than the rubbish one they use now.

Having seen that gameplay above I can't help being disappointed - is that what it's going to look like on next gen hardware? Surely Killer Instinct has set a new precedent? The FMV (?) intro looks about what I'd expect from PS4 gameplay...?

As far as I'm aware MK Gold is just the N64/Dreamcast port of MK4.

Well that's embarrassing - thanks a lot, JERKFACE!

So I actually meant Mortal Kombat Trilogy and, after a bit of digging, it seems the N64 version was rated the worst of the three, which is simply untrue, having played all three.

Why is Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 not part of the poll? Is blates the best one.

The N64 version, or an inferior CD one?

I voted MK2, purely for nostalgia. Seeing the arcade for the first time was a real eye opener and getting to know the intricacies of the game on console presented, IMO, the first real contender to capcom's street fighter series (the original MK was far too simplistic).

I think MK Trilogy deserves it's own entry, though, being outside the MK3 remit.

Mortal Kombat 9 was the only good Mortal Kombat.
