Is MI2 worth a look? I wasn't a fan of the first one, but saw some of the recent ones with Simon Pegg and they were brilliant. Not sure if I've seen 3.

We recently rewatched 1, 3 and 4 and loved them. My girlfriend asked why we've never watched 2 and I said that it was mostly awful. But I couldnt really remember exactly how and why.

Then, funnily enough, it was on tv the next week and I remembered EXACTLY why it was so shitty. It feels like over-directed 90s trash. One scene has Ethan and a girl spinning together in slow motion, in cars, in Spain, to Flamenco music, with feintly erotic draws of breath every time they catch eyes with their hair spinning around their faces....

It's awful.

There's got to be a good drinking game in 2 somewhere.

The second film is dire. Isn't that the one where Ethan is riding a motorbike, he's being shot at so he hops onto the side of the bike, shoes dragging in the dirt, the takes one hand off the handle bars, pulls out a gun and starts shooting back?! :slol: :slol: :slol:

And which was the film where it had him and some woman walking towards the camera, laughing and smiling and there's a group of people in the background clapping, whooping and hollering!!! So cringe worthy!!!

I think you might be talking about the very end of 3, there.

I personally love the two bikes in 2 near the end driving towards each other, Ethan and the other guy jump at each other off the bikes, that then explode, they somehow land on a beach then fight. Brilliant.

The only bit of 2 I've seen is the ending and the beach fight and I have no intention to change this, it's too perfect

If it wasn't for MI2, we will never have this amazing gif:

Hadn't watched 2 in years and started thinking, "Maybe it wasn't as bad as I remember". Boy was I wrong.

It does have the odd moment and is definitely worth it for that gif

Just saw the trailer which was awesome and saw the stunt at the end on the plane, that wasnt a stunt double Tom Cruise did it himself  :

Image

https://uk.yahoo.com/movies/tom-cruise-mission-impossible-5-plane-scene-114408961566.html

Some Exerts about the stunt :

“I also was testing how to keep my eyes open so you have a shot – I can’t have my eyes closed the entire time. The thing that no one else was thinking about, but I was, was the fuel. You have jet fuel coming right out of the back at me because I’m on the wing above the engine. Even when we were taxying I was also inhaling the fumes and they were going in my eyes.

So we came up with this idea of a lens that covered my entire eyeball. So that when I opened my eyes my pupils and retina had protection from any particles and hard air from the runway.

“But the flying wasn’t nearly as bad as the taxiing on the runway because of the exhaust fumes he was inhaling. You cannot understand how physically punishing that stunt was.

“I’m on the side of the plane from the moment the engine starts to the moment the engine shuts down. The climb, the taxi, down the runway, getting the shot, leveling off, turning around and landing. And I did it EIGHT TIMES to get the shot.”

Always liked that he does alot of his own stunts.

Massive respect for cruise. I re-watched MI3 again and it never lets up from beginning to end. I actually think re-watching the films I prefer them to the current run of Bond movies.

I love Mission Impossible 3 and 4 is of similar quality. 1 is middling and 2 is awful.

3>4>>1>>>>>>>2

Corazon de Leon

I haven't actually seen 4 yet. But from what I have seen, 1>3>2. I suspect 4 will slot nicely in between 1 and 3.

1 has aged pretty badly but it's still a very good thriller, 3 is fantastic and four is very good. I like what they're doing with the series, having a different director stamp their mark on each film.

Yeah Cruise is obviously a divisive character because of the Scientology nutbag stuff but the MI films are great.

Mel Gibson is very similar these days. Clearly a bit mental and holds some rather iffy beliefs, but makes some damn enjoyable movies.
