Brett Ratner will direct Beverly Hills Cop 4The long-awaited return of Axel Foley has taken a big step towards fruition, with Brett Ratner confirmed to be directing the fourth episode of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.
Ratner has finally signed on the dotted line some five years after he was first approached to helm the project, with Jerry Bruckheimer also confirmed to produce the sequel.
This is just the latest twist and turn in an ongoing saga that had seen Eddie Murphy attempt to get the sequel made as a TV series, before finally returning to the big screen approach.
Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec are currently hard at work on a script, with Ratner set to begin work on the film as soon as he gets done with Hercules: The Thracian Wars.
Murphy will of course be reprising his starring role as Axel Foley, although no further casting has been revealed at this point. Expect the wheels to continue turning on this one over the next few months...

Paramount Finds Its Director for 'World War Z' SequelJuan Antonio Bayona, who last directed 2012's tsunami drama The Impossible, has signed a deal to direct the sequel to Paramount and Skydance Productions' World War Z.
Z, based on the novel by Max Brooks, was one the summer's surprise hits, grossing $202 million domestically and $540 million worldwide for the studio and Skydance. What was even more impressive was the movie's solid reviews in the face of well-documented problems with the third act that necessitated complicated and costly rewrites and reshoots.
The movie, helmed by Marc Forster, ended with a cure found and him reunited with his family. The original ending, however, was more sequel-ready, putting his wife in the hands of a cold-hearted army officer as Pitt storms the shores of America, cutting through a zombie horde as his reunification journey really begins.
Bayona was on the very short shortlist of directors a few weeks ago. He met with Pitt, who produced Z via his Plan B banner and is also producing the sequel, before getting the gig. No writers are attached at this stage, but Bayona will oversee the writing process.
The Spanish director has shown an ability to juggle scares, drama and big sequences -- all of which Z did successfully. Bayona directed the well-regarded Guillermo del Toro-produced ghost story The Orphanage. And Impossible netted star Naomi Watts an Academy Award nomination in a movie that was both tender and jaw-dropping in portraying the real-life tsunami that devastated Southeast Asia in 2004. The movie was also a hit, grossing $180 million worldwide.

Interesting to see the direction they take with the sequel, as said above they kinda wrapped it up at the end of the first one and the original ending would have set up the sequel perfectly.

'Calvary' Trailer
Very exited to see this. It's John Michael McDonagh follow up to 'The Guard' which was so enjoyable.

Really liked The Guard the acting and humour was so dry. This looks great as well.

If it's like his brother's followup to In Bruges it'll be self indulgent nonsense.
Doesn't look like it though.

He must be cheap or something, given how much they have to rewrite his stuff everytime to a) get it past ratings boards and b) make it so it has at least some appeal

This looks brilliant. Gleeson really is underrated and I think the next few years (probably while working with McDonagh) will lead to some brilliant brilliant performances from him.
