If we could all steer this back to movie news discussion that would be grand.

Ridley Scott hasn't made a great movie since Black Hawk Down almost 15 years ago. I don't think that he's become a bad director, all of his films are very well made and look fantastic, it's just that he keeps pairing himself with untalented and/or hack writers.

Rather confusing having Damon and Chastain in the Martian. I presumed that video was to do with Interstellar at first.

Will probably go and see it just for Chastain (my friend *adores* her)

Looks awesome, but there's far too much plot given away in that trailer for people who haven't read the book!

I really want Ridley to have a hit. His films lately are so beautifully made (as can be seen with The Martian) but lack substance bringing his films it to a crashing halt.

Looks like some of the awful 'humour' dialogue from the book made it into the script. :dread:

I laughed at "I'm gonna have to science the gooseberry fool put of this" though. Left the trailer there, thought I'd spoiled myself enough.

I'm loving this new trend toward "realistic" science movies which, yeah, aren't wholly accurate, but are just enough to make you believe. Unless you're an actual astrophysicist, biologist, engineer or other scientist.

Thought the trailer was pretty abysmal. Tonally all over the place, gave far too many things away, so many story beats spoiled in a split second. Ugh. And then they end with, "Could he still be alive?!" as the final line in the trailer. Of course he is. We just watched a whole trailer of him trying to stay alive.

I think what they're trying to do is make you question the motives of that guy, is he going to be honest and let the press know they made a mistake and left a man behind, or is he going to try and cover it up their mistake at all costs? It's not about if the cinema audience know's he's alive.

Note, I've not read the book, this trailer was the first I knew of this film so I'm just going off that as a first impression.
