A friend of mine wants to go and see the new Planet of the Apes film and has invited me along. I watched a trailer and it looks terrible. Like, really strawberry floating bad. Is it as gooseberry fool as it looks?

The reviews are very positive, but if you don't think it looks like your kind of film from the trailer then you may not like it. Did you see the previous film? My guess is the tone is similar to that.

It’s the third part of a trilogy (Rise, Dawn, War), if you haven’t seen the other two then I would give it a miss if I was you.

The first two movies were excellent though so I would recommend watching them!

I was stunned by the first one. The trailers really put me off. Gave it a go and loved it; same goes for the sequel. The CGI is occasionally wonky, but on the whole it's a great film. IMO.

You really need to see those before the third one, though.

Okay, if I need to see the first two, that sounds like a level of effort that I'm not willing to put in. :slol:

Thanks for the replies though. I might try and persaude her to see Baby Driver instead. Otherwise she can go by herself.

Same here. Thought they'd be crap but they're really well done. They absolutely nail the tone. Managing to be serious without being ridiculous somehow.

While it is obviously ridiculous, they are about as "realistic" as the concept could ever be.

The new Planet of the Apes films are awful.

My suspension of disbelief only goes so far. The first movie should be over so quickly with all the apes gunned down in the street.

They have absolutely nothing on the 68 film - that actually has something to say.

What I really came in this thread to say though is that everyone should go see Baby Driver

Yes.

That and being one of the most iconic scenes in cinema history.

Also it led to this

Both Odeon and Cineworld are only doing 3D showings of war of the planet of the apes on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. 2D starts on Friday.

Disgusting attempt to get a few more quid out of people for a film that wasn't shot in 3D and has dark scenes which will be almost unwatchable in 3D.
Wish my image sig would work

Yeah same at Vue, I can only assume it's been decided by the distributors and not the cinemas themselves. I wanted to see it today but don't want to watch in 3D so will have to wait till next week due to work. :x

Dunkirk tickets booked on London BFI southbank IMAX. Sweet glorious 70mm film.
