As shite as Jurassic World and that trailer were, I've realised that Jurassic Park is the only franchise of films greater than a trilogy where I've seen every installment on release at the cinema.

I'm obliged to keep that run going, aren't I? :dread:

Looks very strange, like a cut scene from a game. Plus the big eyes are just weird and makes it looks like a terrible cgi Pinocchio movie.

Wish my image sig would work

I. Definitely going to see Jurassic world 2. I don’t care if people think the plot is lazy or silly. That’s not what the films are about, they are about the great cinematic moments and set pieces. They are great popcorn flicks to be enjoyed in the cinema.

Hang on, Robert Rodriguez is directing, and James Cameron only producing? I thought Battle Angel was Cameron's big project after Avatar and the reason it's taken him so long to get round to continuing Avatar?

I loved the Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita manga, but really don't know if I want to have a live-action movie version made.

I'd take a live action version if George Lucas directed it. It'd be called Battle Angel Alito, a taut political thriller about some supreme court/White House scandal or some gooseberry fool.

strawberry float. I mean, I get what they were going for with the character design, intentional uncanny valley and all, but she just looks like a cyborg Gollum.

Gunnm/BAA was all about the density and weirdness of the world and the body horror destitution of its inhabitants. That trailer makes the Scrapyard look far too clean and far too ordered compared to the manga.

Not a good trailer then, but with a cast like that also not enough to dismiss it entirely.

I think it looks fantastic. Alita’s own story is largely about how much of yourself you can replace and still be human, and early on aside from one of the villains she’s the furthest gone of every character. She struggles to believe in her own humanity and having her look like a synthetic doll while also being remarkably close to her original appearance is a pretty smart way of showing how different she is to the vast majority of the population while being true to the look of the source material.

Plus with the way she fights you’d never believe that a costumed actress could move in that way.

First trailer was much better. I'm not sure how I feel about everything in the Oasis being CGI. The avatar animation didn't look that great. I've a feeling this film will be a very accurate adaptation of the book. In that it's just going to be full of cameos and references and ultimately amounts to nothing and is very empty and pointless. I'll probably still watch it though.

I've only ever heard negative things about the book. It is, if people I place large amounts of trust in are correct, a meaningless, thoughtless collection of pop culture references coated in nostalgia signifying nothing. The trailer looks to be following that exact same idea: cameo after cameo after cameo.

Also, could Mark Rylance sound any more bored?

EDIT: Here's a Christmas challenge. See how much of this poem, written by Ready Player One author Ernest Cline, you can get through without screaming:
Nerd Porn Auteur

I've noticed that there don't seem to be any porno movies

that are made for guys like me.

All the porn I've come across

was targeted at beer-swilling sports bar dwelling alpha-males

Men who like their women stupid and submissive

Men who can only get it up for monosyllabic cock-hungry nymphos

with gargantuan breasts and a three-word vocabulary

Adult films are populated with these collagen-injected

liposuctioned women

Many of whom have resorted to surgery and self-mutilation

in an attempt to look the way they have been told to look.

These aren't real women. They're objects.

And these movies aren't erotic. They're pathetic.

These vacuum-headed strawberry float bunnies don't turn me on.

They disgust me.

And it's not that I'm against pornography.

I mean, I'm a guy. And guys need porn.

Fact.

"Like a preacher needs pain, like a needle needs a vein,"

Guys need porn.

But I don't wanna watch this misogynist he-man woman-hater porn.

I want porno movies that are made with guys like me in mind:

Guys who know that the sexiest thing in the world

is a woman who is smarter than you are.

You can have the whole cheerleading squad,

I want the girl in the tweed skirt and the horn-rimmed glasses:

Betty Finnebowski, the valedictorian.

Oh yes.

First I want to copy her Trig homework,

and then I want to make mad, passionate love to her

for hours and hours

until she reluctantly asks if we can stop

because she doesn't want to miss Battlestar Galactica.

Summa cum laude, baby!

That is what I call erotic.

But do you ever see that kind of a woman in a contemporary adult film?

No.

Which is why I'm going to start writing and directing Geek Porno.

I shall be the quintessential Nerd Porn Auteur.

And the women in my porno movies will be the kind

that drive nerds like me mad with desire.

I'm talking about the girls that used to strawberry float up the grading curve.

The girls in the Latin Club and the National Honor Society.

Chicks with weird clothes, braces, four eyes, and 4.0 GPAs.

Brainy articulate bookworms, with MENSA cards in their purses

and chips on their shoulders.

My porn starlets will come in all shapes and sizes.

My porn starlets will be too busy working on their PhD to go to the gym.

In my kind of porno movies the girls wouldn't even have to get naked.

They'd just take the guys down to the rec room and

beat them repeatedly at chess

and then talk to them for hours about Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle

or the underlying social metaphors in the Aliens movies.

Buy stock in some hand cream companies

because there is about to be a major shortage.

And I'm not just talking about straight porn. Oh no.

There should be strawberry float films for my nerd brethren

of all sexual orientations.

Gay nerd porn flicks with titles like "Dungeons and Drag-queens."

This idea is a strawberry floating gold mine.

I am gonna make millions,

because this country is full of database programmers

and electronics engineers

and they aren't getting the loving they so desperately need.

And you can help . . .

If you're an intelligent woman is interested in breaking into the adult film industry,

and if you can tell me the name of Luke Skywalker's home planet,

then you are hired.

It doesn't matter if you think you're overweight or unattractive.

It doesn't matter if you don't think you're beautiful.

You are beautiful. . .

And I will make you a star.

To be fair, everything in the Oasis being CGI is technically extremely faithful to the book...

Ready Player One was a fun teen book. Didn't really set out to be anything deeper or grander than that i think. It seems to be getting a lot of hate lately, but I really enjoyed it.

He sounds like he's channelling his inner Tommy Wiseau.

The book is dreadful, the film can only be an improvement as long as Ernest Cline hasn't written the dialogue.
