PostMoving from contract to SIM only - sorted

Hi lads, I generally don't give a gooseberry fool about phones so I have no idea how things work with contracts and such.

At the moment I'm on a contract with Vodafone with an old Nokia 5800. It was a 24 month contract which has long expired, but I've still got the phone and am paying £20 a month.

The phone's alright, not fussed about upgrading it as I have an iPhone 5 from work anyway. Found a SIM-only deal with Vodafone that gives me the same as my contract but for £10 a month.

Can I just switch straight to SIM only? Or because it was a contract phone, which I didn't buy outright, would it not be that straightforward?

Thanks.

You should be able to just switch (almost) straight away since you're out of contract. You should just be able to call them up, tell them what you want and then the switch will happen 30 days later after the contract notice period.

Depending on your usage, you can get some very good deals.

Like if you use less than 250 minutes and 300 texts (and 500MB data), ovivo do it for free with a one off outlay of £20. And you get £15 of that as credit.

And a strawberry float ton of adverts. Still, free is free.

I can't see him doing much browsing on that phone, and that's the only time you get ads.

Indeed. We've got 5 Ovivo sims now (for emergency phones and one for our 3G iPad). Absolutely perfect for calling/texting with no ads there so my mum and dad have them too as they're super-light users (and can now avoid the silly PAYG prices they used to have).

Thanks for the replies guys. Hadn't heard of Ovivo, will check it out. My 5800 is just for personal calls and texts, I use the iPhone for any browsing, etc. Cheers chaps.

Good job I hadn't got around to looking into Ovivo, seems they've shut down.

I've just gone from T-Mobile to Sim Only with 3 to get one of the All you can Eat data plans. £12.90/month, 5000 Texts, AYCE Data, only 200 minutes but it's enough really. Can up it to 600 minutes for another £3/month.
Have also sworn to never sign up for another phone contract ever again, sticking with 30 day rolling contracts from now on.
