PostRe: Xbox Game Pass - Halo:MCC, Quantum Break, Onrush, Aven Colony, Snake Pass etc arrive in September

So I've been downloading lot of games via game pass whoops

Quantum Break - Glad I didn't pay full price for this as surprise surprise videos/radio you collect aren't subtitled, and as much as I like TV episodes I just want to play the damn game. That being said it's really good game, enjoying it lot more than I thought.

Not able to fire without aiming is annoying though... But it's solid.

Rocket League - I have it on PC but didn't enjoy it, then I'm like meh why not?
End up really enjoying it, go figure. I still suck but at least I'm enjoying it

Human Fall Flat - Oh man I love this game, fantastic fun especially with randoms. I went in with intention of not beating the game in one go, although players pretty much finished it for me! But i kept on playing as it made me laugh, really want to buy it for keeps.

Snake Pass - I'm not sure if I like how harsh it is, I was trying for fifth gold coin and then failed & I've lost what I collected. That being said it looks good, colourful and fun enough. Will give it a chance.

Next Up Hero - I like the idea, art style etc but I'm not sure how long it'll keep me entertained. For that price tag I wouldn't buy it but via Game Pass it's not bad

Still few others I haven't tried but, yeah.

I had a thought about Game Pass the other day. Assuming it's still around in a couple of years and Microsoft are still giving away their first party content on the service, how much cheaper is this going to make the start of the next gen? You know, when games go back to being £60 with no discounts available anywhere. You certainly wouldn't mind paying a higher price for the new console if you knew you were getting, say, Halo 6 and Fable 4 for free day one.

Yeah that's for sure. My main concern is how they'll handle first party/exclusives coming into next gen though so it'll be while before I bite, but if Game pass keeps this up it'd be great

That’s an interesting thought. It could help flog a lot of consoles at launch if MS could point at Game Pass and tell people all the games they could play for the cost of the GP subscription.

If they have any sense, they'll sell the next gen consoles with 3 or 6 months of live and game pass included - gives everyone buying it access to the MS launch games for free as well as a huge back catalogue of Xbox One/360/OG xbox games from it (I'm assuming next gen will maintain backwards compatibility from the off and any X enhanced games will run on the new console as if it was an X or possibly better with further enhancements/framerate improvements etc..).

If they play it right they could do amazing out of it assuming Sony don't follow with their own equivalent by then. I guess they have their streaming service but unless they add their 1st party PS4 stuff it's not half as good value.

I do also wonder if other publishers will follow this model. EA already have EA Access and on PC, they released the more expensive version of Origin access which includes new releases, if that came to Xbox at a reasonable price i'd be tempted.. hell, just charge me £50 a month for live and access to all new games from everyone and their back catalogues and i'd pay it. I know there's the issue of ownership but with things gradually moving towards digital it's becoming less of an issue for me as eventually there'll be no physical media and we'll just own licenses anyway which they could take away if/when they go bust/stop making xbox etc.. so meh.

Yeah it would be a massive marketing win to say "Buy an Xbox Two and play 100+ games out of the box Downloads required, subscription fees apply after 3 months"

I'd expect Xbox 2 to be fully back compat with everything the X1 is now so yeah it'd be a good marketing ploy to advertise it day 1.

It's also going to appeal to those people that are big fans of other consoles, in that you can pay this one price and also play all those exclusives (joke goes here) that you missed on Xbox One or 360. I'd expect Sony to be looking at doing something similar, but they're in full-on arrogance mode at the moment so maybe not.

I can’t remember what they are calling it, but MS are offering or about to offer a deal where you can pay monthly and get an Xbone, Live and Game Pass for a reasonable fee.

That would be an amazing thing to offer on the launch of their next hardware. Imagine if at launch they say “$40 a month and you get the console, online gaming and 100+ games to play”.

Just four games leaving at the end of the month.

Maldita Castilla EX - Cursed Castile
Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell
The Bug Butcher
Tower of Guns

The Bug Butcher was pretty good fun and a short completion, so I'd recommend rattling through that if you have a chance.

Forza Horizon 4 is confirmed already isn't it?

Personally would like the quality to be a little higher on Game Pass if I was forking out a noticeable amount of money (like the $40 example given) even if it was for that the console and Xbox Live. I personally think, among with a few very good games, there's a lot of crap on there at the moment.

Yes, but there will be another six or seven games added on top of that.

I grabbed the 6 months for the price of 3 offer going at E3 this year and for 50p a game I think that the Pass is great value. I like to download and play each game a little and perhaps complete one or two. The only stuff I find hard to get into is all the building and sim games that the service has.

Cheers for heads up on Bug Butcher, it's good fun game so happy to play it off and on when going through Prey.

Two weeks should be plenty for me to get good bulk if not all of achievements.

Wonder what new games there'll be

I think that's a really weird offer personally. With Game Pass you're about to get Forza Horizon 4. Does anyone really need to have three new Forza games? I know Horizon and Motorsport are quite different, but I think they would have more uptake if they put in something else instead of Horizon 3.

Tried three games that's leaving Game Pass at end of month.

The Bug Butcher is actually great fun, the lifespan is fairly short though, no interest in panic mode but other than that it was fun. All achievements obtained too, which is nice!

Tower of Guns -- I'm not sure if I like it. Didn't seem worth keep playing, I just keep getting killed easily. Might give it another go, but not fussed.

Goblins and Ghouls -- err I mean Maldita Castilla EX

This game ain't for me. But it looks like G&G! Sheesh.

After taking a certain amount of damage (I think three or four runs for me) you unlock the easy mode perk which makes the game far more entertaining. It's not a terrible game, has some nice ideas.
