I’ll stick with EA Access and GWG I think. I don’t get to play nearly enough games anymore and £7.99 a month for games that will vanish each month is not all that appealing to me.

I can see why people would like it though and agree this sort of thing is probably going to be the future.

Also, I'm wondering if this will undermine Games with Gold, that said, a few games on gwg were in the EA vault also.

Trying to think who this works for.

Someone who isn't interested in playing the latest stuff, who has a lot of time on their hands, so can make use of the quantity available so the monthly fee without owning anything is value for money and is not interested in online gaming so doesn't have gold and get free games that way.

Not sure someone who fits that criteria would actually bother buying an Xbone in the first place?

I would suspect that if those companies wanted to play the subscription game, they'd simply do it themselves. I expect Activision will find a way to banana split it up, a 'Call Of Duty Club Pass' for £20 a month only available if you buy the Ultimate Super Deluxe Prestige Edition of Call Of Duty Ludicrous Warfare.

Activision make the spiritual successor to Bad Company that EA/DICE won't.

Most people only buy a game or two a year, if that. £7.99 x 12 = £95odd

The concept is great, it's exactly the kind of thing I'd like to see Nintendo do with the Virtual Console.

I do think the pricing is a bit much though. Games on the Xbox don't really tend to hold their price for that long and you could pick up plenty of physical games for the same cost as the yearly subscription and unlike that subscription you can actually keep them permanently.

It's a better idea than PS Now though and a step in the right direction.

This is great idea and is something that has made me think hmmm an Xbox One would be nice, a month is more than enough for me to reach a point of getting stuck / game cheating so would be right p my street.

Great option for people who play a lot of games, will be interesting to see the full library of games available to play in this.

I wonder if they're announcing this now instead of E3 to see how popular it is and if it could feasibly open the door to replacing their Gold subscription revenue stream, allowing them to announce free multiplayer at E3...

I do think the pricing is a bit much though.

£7.99 to rent over 100 full games with no streaming involved seems a pretty decent price to me! PS3 game streaming is £12.99 per month isn't it? This could eat into the 2nd hand market a bit, sending some more money back to game publishers and developers instead of retailers pocketing it all.

I'm surprised that people are cribbing about the £7.99/$9.99 price, for a massive library of games that's great value. The key issue is WHAT games exactly are going to be on there. Much as there are some last-gen classics that people want to play and I still want to get around to playing I'd prefer to play this-gen games. Microsoft can decide to put their own games on the service but will third-party companies want to? The concern is that if it becomes a major success, Game Pass will devalue the cost of games to consumers who will then come to think that £45 for a new game is too expensive. Boomerang rental charges £16 for two full priced games so will this business model actually be profitable for third-party publishers? To be honest even if it is just two new triple-A games per month Game Pass will be amazing value.

I was listening to Phil Spencer talking about this on the IGN podcast and he made some interesting points about why Microsoft is not going down the streaming route like the PlayStation Now service. He said streaming only makes sense if is being run on a device that is not capable of normally running the games, such as a TV or iPad, but doesn't make sense if the device (Xbox One) can play the games natively, where there is better performance to download and cheaper cost for MS to run.

You're right, £7.99 could be good value, but that initial list of titles doesn't exactly fill you with confidence. I suspect that it'll be a large number of BC 360 titles and old Games With Gold, with the occasional big game thrown in. At least for the first few months, anyway.

I think the figure seems high because of the bargain that is EA Access. That started off with just four games, but now you get a huge number and it's still just £20 per year. MS needs to prove they can justify the extra cost they're asking.

As I said earlier, I can see myself subscribing for the odd month when I like the selection of titles available, but I cant see me just signing up full time like I do with EA Access.

Xbox Game Pass Alpha Preview to end on April 7

If you're in the Xbox Insider Alpha ring and you're enjoying the current Game Pass preview, there's a certain stop date now in place.

Insiders currently taking part are met with the following message in the Insider Hub app:

Thank you for participating in the Xbox Game Pass Alpha Preview. Your feedback has been invaluable and will make the service better for all gamers. We will be closing Preview on April 7 in order to make our final tweaks and updates. But don't worry, we're getting close to launch and Xbox Game Pass will be available for all gamers later this Spring.
That's still about three more weeks to enjoy the service right now, for free, ahead of launch. Microsoft has already said that Gold subscribers will get a chance to try it out first, but as yet we're still missing a firm launch date for the subscription service.

In any case, that hasn't stopped more games being added in recent days, and we've still got plenty of time to enjoy some new games on the house before Microsoft closes the doors.

Finally got an invite to the preview of this. Does anyone know if the list of games has changed or if it's still the poor selection they had to start with?

Microsoft has confirmed that the subscription service will be leaving the Xbox Insider program on April 28th, saying that the program is getting close to launch.

"Thank you for participating in the Xbox Game Pass Alpha Preview," the message reads. "You feedback has been invaluable and will make the service better for all gamers....We're getting close to launch and Xbox Game Pass will be available for all gamers later this Spring."
