PostMS announces massive “Live your Moment” casual campaign
by Sarge » Mon Sep 22, 2008 10:27 am

Microsoft’s announced the largest ad campaign in Xbox’s history this morning. Titled “Live your Moment,” it’s aimed at the “the casual and social segments,” according to a press release.

The ads will appear on TV, billboards, in print and everywhere else you can buy space, and is apparently about “real people having emotional and connected Xbox gaming and entertainment experiences with their friends and family.”

The campaign kicks off in Europe this week, and is already running in the US.

It's about time, the marketing on TV at least has been poor compared to Nintendo who have done a great job in that respect.

Good, they've been very quiet over the last few months.

Surely the 360 is going to be far more attractive that the PS3 now? Assuming Sony don't drop their price you could get an Xbox an extra pad, a live sub and about 5 games for the price of a solus PS3.

Or indeed an Arcade and a Wii for just over the price of a PS3.

Is Blu-Ray really that big of an allure?

In Europe the Playstation brand is still very very strong.

Microsoft need to tell the world exactly what the 360 can do and really push the machine as THE machine with the best and most games. Also show off XBLA and some of the big hitters there too.

I'd like to know what exactly Microsoft are going to promote. Viva Pinata? The Arcade? Their film downloads? You know, stuff that may actually appeal to a wider auidence. I wouldn't bet on it. They'll put their marketing spend behind Gears of War 2 (which is already appealing to the converted). Hell, they've already been promoting the damn thing in paper form since about July.

Sony's advertising is already focusing on Fifa 2008, in what may just be an unprecedented move in buying up THE ENTIRE AD BREAK. Even Honda didn't go that far. They're no doubt going to push Little Big Planet to the moon too. Which begs the question why they haven't put themselves in an even better position with some sort of price cut. Unless they're really that confident they don't need one. Which seems to be the case.

As the video marketplace is right now is there really much point in pushing it too much? The content just isn't there, especially compared to the US version which has thousands of hours more content.

They are sacrificing sales for profitability, expect bundles this Xmas from Sony as they see the 80gb and Dualshock 3 as adding value anyway.

$$$

I'd guess the PS3 is still selling at a loss/for naff all profit and with the crazy amount of money that Sony has pushed into both the console and development, they probably can't afford to have a price drop.

MS need some side-by-side comparisons of the two machines games, like the old intellivision adverts.

Only with a little more style and panache, and someone other than George Plimpton.

People need to see that the PS3 really doesn't look any better than the 360.

I think they'll have a big push on Banjo, Viva, Lips and Fable as well as the obvious stuff like Gears and Fallout.

I think they should advertise the downloadable movies too, on the face of it it's a cracking feature, even if the reality is a bit disappointing.

I saw an Infinite Undiscovery advert earlier which announced the price of the Arcade at the end, which is a really good message, people are skint at the moment so MS are well placed having the cheapest home console on the market.

Granted this was only for print ads but what they did last year were have adverts showing off the more hardcore games and then another ad showing off some of the more family games. I can see them doing this with the TV ads. Perhaps a montage of the hardcore games like Fable, Fallout, etc and then another ad showing off some of the less hardcore games - maybe even rope in a few famous faces playing the likes of Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Lips, etc.

I only just realised, reading the OP, that the Premium/Pro/whateverit'scalled 360 is now cheaper than the Wii! Incredible. If Live was free I reckon all my mates would get one now.
