Strong lead post. Good, but don't see much of it up in Scotland anyway.

It's a good idea, but it's not properly worked outside of central London. Multiple communities exist, but they somewhat keep themselves to themselves which isn't true multiculturalism.

Noticed that down here in london actually. Doesn't really bother me though, people can do what they want. Brightens up some streets with different garments and fruits and gooseberry fool.

Just noticed the other topic as well, that'll be why then eh

Depends on what part of the UK you live.

On the most part it's worked in London. To use a food analogy London is like a supermarket, the whole world is represented fairly evenly. Other parts of the UK are like a butchers. There's meat but no veg.

('One of the most forced analogies I've ever read, but it just about works')

There's more ginger people in England. More racists in England. More obese people in England. And you steal all our oil and begrudge a little advantage given from the Barnett Formula? Now that's cheap! ;)

I don't have the regional breakdowns, but 2.3 million in England & Wales are in mixed race relationships (up 35% from 2004); 1.2 million people are now mixed race (up from 660,000 from 2001). So Multiculturalism is clearly working to an extent.

As a comparison, there are 9 million mixed race people in America (2.9% of the population as of 2010).

Multiculturalism exists in London but it's not like everyone here is all mingling together. Majority of Asian communities tend to be in their own clans. Whitechapel for example is predominantly Asian. Nearby me it's majority Turkish. Turkish restaurants, Turkish shops etc. If Multiculturalism means lots of different nations living in the same city, with lots places to find differently nationalities foods etc then yeah, London covers that more than anyone.

However, it is rather segregated in my honest opinion.

London would be worse without all the different cultures.

I'm a huge supporter of monoculturism: all them lot coming over here should convert to Christianity and give a pinky-promise to never speak all foreignese on the train. Or we'll send them right back!

Depends on where you live too. West End of Glasgow is pretty damn multicultural, though the figures are very obviously pushed that way due to the student population.

Where those cultures respect and compromise with each other, yes.

Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.
And the most British thing of all? Suspicion of all things foreign!
