I thought the first one was quite funny in a purely semantic sense (i.e. replace Muslim with whatever signifier you like and it's still a humorous twist-cum-cultural reference).

I just despise organised religion in all forms. But you can't deny the fact that the majority of travesties being committed in the name of religion these days are of Islamic doing. Couple this with the barbaric laws, rampant authoritarianism and misogyny, homophobia and general intolerance you have to ask: "What good is Islam? How has it enriched our species?". Sure there were some cool-looking geometric artworks but they only came about because you'd be torchered if you dared draw a living organism (another coup for Islam).

I think the human race would be better off without it, as with all religions, but you have to look at the nail that sticks out most before you do any hammering.

I don't see religion as the cause for the world's evils. If there weren't such a thing as religion, we'd still be killing each other, whether it be for the colour of our skins to the side of the egg we cut when having breakfast.

We're generally tolerant of homosexuals, freedom of expression and women's causes so it's hardly enriching our society by allowing a belief system that's so contrary to all of these ideals to flourish.

That's the double-edged sword of freedom of speech I suppose - we have to just sit back and bite our tongues as all the hard work is undone as a plague of backward 3rd world bigotry gradually gathers momentum.

The West is beginning to realise that our 'tolerance' will be our undoing. Probably within our own lifetimes.

I imagine a similarly small portion of the BNP are the ones going out beating people up - the majority are just angry, frightened peasants who have been indoctrinated and had their fears exploited.

That doesn't change the fact that the BNP is, in principle, bad news and we're probably all better off with it not existing.

Not that I'm siding with Earl Gray, but I do take issue with your point here. For a start, we are still killing each other for a great many reasons all over the World. Secondly, organised Religion has no right whatsoever to claim responsibility for the creation of civilisation. The only purpose Religion has served historically is in the enforcement of civilisation, through fear to the uneducated masses. Natural altruism and an ever-changing moral zeitgeist can however claim responsibilty.

Worse, the very idea will stir anti-Islam sentiments, which will in turn cause the Muslims to become even more determined to stick to their guns (or even radicalise). This will yield more anti-Islamic feelings, which will cause even more heel-digging on the Muslims' part, etc, etc, until we have civil war or something.

It's a vicious circle that could have been nipped in the bud but it's too late now.

The increase of Islam will only mean that sooner or later they might be able to effect changes of a questionable nature purely by democratic means. The non-Muslims will respond by getting militant themselves, as they see their homeland overtaken by a fundamentally backward bigoted belief system.

I honestly can't see any other way out of this.

A civil war over Islamic fundamentalism. Never ever going to happen. And where do you get the idea that all Muslims are potential bombers in the making? There are much more important things to be worrying about than how many Muslim people are arriving in the country, the changes that the crash in the global economy will make for one.
