You may know this already Pete but neither your electricity supplier or distributor are liable to help pay for damage to electrical goods.

 Pete, when you pack it away in a box can you stand over it and drop a rose into the box for me. And let your PS4 know that its sacrifice wasn't for nothing and that from the news of its passing it prompted KjGarly to go out and buy a surge protector extension lead.

RIP in peace

I may have found a solution to my dilemma but it's too early to tell so I will keep you posted as soon as I know.

That's not the solution I have in mind at all and it involves no extra money from me.

All will be revealed soon enough but I have to keep this hush hush lest it not come to pass.

If it's in warranty just ring up and say it crashed. Or is it not in warranty?

There's no way a power cut should be bricking anything in 2015, surely? I don't have a PS4 but just from a pure electronics standpoint I'm really interested to know what's gone wrong here.

I have no idea but it decided to stop working which was a bit of a buger.

Maybe it grew tired of my constant winning and just decided to commit suicide.

It's possible a quick blow fuse has gone. You tend to find them in computer PSUs to protect against surges. They reset within 24 hours and will work again. Like magic but not.

Off Topic, but it's absolutely worth noting how much more activity this thread has vs what it would have had in Ask The Forum, or even how many responses there's been vs if Pete had posted in a hardware failure megathread in GGC.

I worked out what the problem was.

I forgot I had my ps4 going through my sound bar via hdmi and the power cut had reset it so the ps4 was sending a picture but it just wasn't able to get to the TV :fp: .
I don't even know why I bought the strawberry floating stupid sound bar as I almost never use it as I try not to be loud for the neighbours so I end up using my surround sound headphones instead.

Amazon had offered me a refund of the purchase price of £430 but as it's not broken my dreams of making a small profit die :shifty: .

Cruel fate why must you mock me so :x .

I'm glad your PS4 isn't broken Peter! I thought it was odd, most devices are pretty resistant to surges nowadays so I hear.

Now that's a glass half-empty reaction, Pete. Rejoice - your PS4 is alive :-).

I did the same kind of thing aswell, X1 froze, I held in power button and plugged it out at back, then when plugged it back in it came on but nothing came on TV, tried several things and was on Xbox forums and everything until realised I had inadvertantly plugged out the HDMI cable also. :fp:
