OP might be missing the Zeldas, but as they've been ported to 3DS surely they won't be part of any theoretical N64 Mini bundle? Assuming that they're still officially supporting the console. It would be undercutting their own products. I could see them releasing this instead of bothering with Virtual Console for another generation.

I don't think Microsoft would have much of an issue with Rare games appearing on the system, but it'll be whether Nintendo take the piss on how much they're willing to pay for it.

I'd love a wrestling game on there but the licensing would be a nightmare on a scale probably no other game comes close to. WCW/nWo Revenge would be easier, because on top of the licensing No Mercy would require the involvement again of the World Wildlife Fund. You boil it all down and the WWE, Nintendo, 2K...they just aren't going to do it unfortunately. You'd only contemplate it as a standalone release.

I'd like to see the first Paper Mario, but I doubt it would be featured.

Although this just might be a re-registry patent, apparently the same thing happened before the NES & SNES Classic Mini's which could add credence to them having this next year.

Assuming this was to have 15 games built in (each iteration of Classic Mini has had less games as the file size has increased) and I can't imagine any original RARE IP will be included, what would everyone like to see?

Here's mine:

#. 1080 Snowboarding
#. Excitebike 64.
#. F-Zero-X
#. Harvest Moon 64
#. Kirby 64
#. Mario Golf
#. Mario Kart 64
#. Mario Party
#. Mystical Ninja
#. Paper Mario
#. Pilotwings
#. Sin & Punishment
#. Starfox 64
#. Super Mario 64
#. Wave Race 64

Obviously I'd love to see Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Conker's Bad Fur Day, WWF No Mercy and more but can't imagine Nintendo getting embroiled in licensing issues when they can just use their own internal IP alone to sell the thing.

Better start F5'ing now, the Machine and 4 Controllers are going to be a biatch to get!

No Zelda? :dread:

I'm pretty confident they'll get Goldeneye.

If there is one game they're not getting it's Goldeneye.

Who even now owns the Bond videogame license, is it still Activision?

Surely it's synonymous with the N64?
Is it because Microsoft wont allow it?

I don't see anyone objecting too hard - having the rights to the game split three ways between Nintendo, Rare/MS and Activision isn't great though.

It was Nintendo who blocked Goldeneye HD on 360 back in the day wasn't it? Pell would know better but from what I remember MS had a deal in place with Activision, and were willing to let the N64 game get a VC release, but Nintendo Japan (supposedly Iwata himself) said no and the project was cancelled.

Maybe we'll end up with Goldeneye 4K on Xbox/Windows 10 as a result of an N64 mini....

Oh, personally speaking, it's THE MP game that needs to be on a collection like this but it's just an utter clusterfuck it terms of rights between Microsoft, Nintendo & Activision. Let alone how much the Bond license costs and who owns it.

Yep:

“Let me tell you what happened,” said a Microsoft representative who chose to remain unidentified. What he was about to describe was pretty much the same story we all know. Rare started working on GoldenEye XBLA before anybody knew if it was legally possible to release the game; they completed it; Activision, the current holders of the James Bond licence, greenlighted it; and then Nintendo, who share the rights of the original game with Microsoft, refused to give their approval for a joint launch on Wii and Xbox 360. “But the game is finished and it could be released if the situation changes in the future,” our source added. In other words, Microsoft is still willing to release GoldenEye even if it takes a decade for Nintendo to eat up their ego.

You'd suspect that the N64 mini would be the perfect opportunity for this to happen.

Someone, somewhere on GRcade, posted something about the N64 games already available on Virtual Console and how they might form the line-up of a potential N64 Mini. I could have sworn it was in this thread, though. Anyone know the post I mean?
