In my defense, I was only 9 at the time, but the trick worked! When I started paying more attention to magazines, around the age of 12, I always wondered what had happened to make later issues unofficial.

You've no idea how much I'd appreciate the early issues mate, N64 mag was immense. I have a good amount of later issues stored in the loft but I don't have a scanner unfortunately.

I remember a picture of Tim with a cross-bow, looking down at Jes with quite the alarming grin.

Tim Weaver stuffing a dead James Ashton in a Mini Cooper's trunk. I remember around that time I was a massive Mini fanboy, so I was drooling like a person with problems on those particular photos, and was very envious of Ashton.
There was one involving Mario Kart, I think they were running around the office on wheeled chairs wearing fake moustaches and making creepy advances to the only attractive member of the office (not Andrea. It was some receptionist or something)

A noticeable absence of Wil Overton and hair-related stuff. Perhaps, seeing how old he was, by the time he came up with an idea for the photoshoot it was already time for issue 31 or something.

I wonder how many new games journalists got duped into the job thinking it'd be as awesome everywhere as working for N64 Magazine.

I don't think so; he said he finally passed his test in issue 24. They had a CAR up for grabs in that issue for a competition!

That was superb.

Man, I used to really look forward to reading N64 Magazine each month. It really made me want to write for them as well, but only them, as I didn't think any other magazine would have the same 'vibe'. You just know it would have been great fun to work there. It's what got me into doing freelance.

Then reality hit home and I realised it was all a pipe dream. Now I barely play games at all, let alone read or write about them.

While we're here, what the strawberry float was Lex Luthor's Solve my Maze about? Was there actual solutions to them? Perhaps my 13 year old brain was just incapable.

In Superman 64 there was a section that was a bunch of rings in a route and you had to fly through them. Lex Luthor would tell you to solve his maze, when in fact it wasn't a maze at all.

I've never played Superman 64 though, so maybe they just made that up. They probably made the whole SUperman 64 game up. Does anyone remember when someone wrote in saying that the magazine had made up a game (Beetle Adventure Racing), including fake review, just for the lols, because the guy couldn't find a copy anywhere?

I'd like to know why any of the staff members actually wanted to leave the magazine. They all seemed to be having such fun. I understand that, in the latter stages of NGC, things were looking somewhat bleak--but everything always seemed so vibrant back with N64 Magazine.

I think Ashton presided over the best period, concerning the quality of the games released. Some absolutely phenomenal games were covered when he was editor--like Banjo-Kazooie, Ocarina, and so forth.
