There's a difference between getting angry when someone gets your name wrong (which can happen for a multitude of reasons and is probably not worth getting worked up over) and being told that you're the prick when you correct them.

I'm pretty used to getting my name misspelled by people, Russell isn't exactly massively obscure but it's not the most common either and people often get confused over how many s's or l's to include.

Best one I've had so far was from someone in Starbucks:

'Rustel'? WTF?

If it was rustle I could get behind it being deliberate as of course I've been subjected to that hilarity many times over the years, but rustel? What the strawberry float would that be a reference to?

There's a theory Starbucks deliberately spell your name wrong so you take a photo and post it online granting them free advertising.

Which to be fair, you just did.

I don't know if this is confirmed or not though.

Hey guys where shall we go for a drink?

How about that place that does gooseberry fool coffee and spells people's names wrong, I heard about it on Instagram!

There's definitely better ways to promote yourself!

Most of advertising is simply trying to get noticed, which it does very well!

'No such thing as bad publicity' is such as nonsense concept though. Not necessarily saying this particular example does more harm than good mind you.

Also I think there are far more innocent answers to the question of why they misspell names. Stupidity, mishearing, uncommon names, being tired or in a rush etc.
