Twice it's crashed on car selection and there is no way to skip the ridiculously long cutscene before it.

Got a Beta code on PS4.
I'll check it out once it's downloaded on Sunday...

10hrs of the Full game are out now on EA Access. Need For Speed launches on Xbox One and PS4 next Thursday, November 5, with a PC version due to follow in spring 2016.

Other than the graphics I wasn't impressed with this at all, garbage.

I've watched some footage and I'm coming around to it more - it still looks cringey as hell in some places, but I could be up for it - especially as it has a full Forza-style livery editor to make all your cool and rad designs. I imagine nobody I know will be playing it on PC which is delayed anyway, so may go for the Xbone version.

That was an odd review. I have the idea that one of the guys played it for an hour and then they recorded the review - with the other chap prompting on things to say. Near the end the guy that played it even mentions that this is "early impressions".

Even so, it does seem that this latest NFS disappoints. The "five ways to play" thing appears to be pure marketing junk, whilst the gameworld looks good but seems remarkably empty. The online element just doesn't seem to add anything worthwhile and it'd be better off without it.

I would still like to try the game but, for me, I'll stick with The Crew and look at NFS once it is in a sale.

Right, this GT review seemed - to me - to be far better in explaining the structure of the game and how the various aspects work:

I'm cautious about the rubber-banding but the key thing deterring me is how dark the races are... the graphics looks ace but I can't see where the track is going! This is one game that would really benefit from having a demo available.

Haven't read the reviews, but the scores don't surprise me having played the Beta for a few hours. I found it very underwhelming. The handling was way off the fluid control of Hot Pursuit, and the constant darkness was overbearing for me.

I'm torn - on the one hand it's fairly average-sounding, but then I am a car nerd and I kind of dig how cringey the FMV stuff is. The customisation in terms of visuals seems on par with Forza, but with more focus on brands and art graphics, something that Forza lacks/requires way more time in terms of making all the logos. I might dip anyway rather than wait for the probably shite/eternally delayed PC version.

I'm stuck with this as I got it in a key double pack for really cheap. Sounds shite but we'll see if the feeling of speed is returned when they finally release it in 60fps.

Might give the crew another shot like Jawa said.

Well this is pretty much what I expected, and so far I'm enjoying it. The handling takes a bit of getting used to, but slapping on silly bodykits and covering cars in tuner/drift garbage is fun in its own way. Will keep playing it and keep an eye on the PC version when that hits to see how much EA make a mess of it.

So those that bought this, how does the online only benefit you?. Serious question.
I want it but want to know what all that's about & I see a few rubber and comments here's & there, is it really that bad?.

Going to give this one a miss, been reading about progress not saved if & when it goes offline. Then there's that nasty rubberband tripe. I didn't miss that from the recent hot pursuit game not long ago. There was nothing fun about that.
Good going EA, way to strawberry float it up. My great grandma can do a better job than you & she's dead. Do yourselves a favour, go buy Drive Club instead or Forza.

On balance i think i'm enjoying it. The handling takes some getting used to, and the fmv stuff feels like half a story - the characters keep mentioning stuff thats happening but its like the game forgot to show it to you or let you do it or something.

Slapping bodykits and exhausts on an ae86 is fun.

On balance this game is strawberry floating garbage. Ludicrous rubberbanding, a nonsensical handling model that just goes into understeer mode for gooseberry fools and giggles are the main gripes. I'm going back to Forza Horizon 2 which is better than this in every measurable way. strawberry float this game.

Horizon 2 is better than this by every single measure.

Nevertheless, I've had fun with this. I think it's dumb and silly, but carrying a drift around a complex couple of bends and then nitrousing your way out of the corner is really satisfying. And I actually like the way they build up to the introduction of Ken Block, Magnust Walker etc. It's really dumb, but fun at the same time.

There's no reason whatsoever for it to be always online though, I've seen no benefits at all, and had numerous disconnects and been griefed a few times (one guy spent about 15 minutes making sure I couldn't compete in one of the drift events :x ).

7/10

Did I dream that I read somewhere that this game doesn't have a pause button?

It's always online which apparently makes the game better, so nope. If you press the menu button the game carries on in the background. Play The Crew, Horizon 2 or even go back to NFS Underground 2 which is a much better game even 10 years later:
