Harsh. 1 and 4 have the best production design, hands-down. Seriously, 4 is easily as good-looking in places as Scott's original (the set design is outstanding). 2 is an infantile action movie and 3 is best not spoken about in polite company.

This is the worst thing you have ever said.

And by a considerable distance, too.

Anyone else less excited about this since Chappie?

I don't know what the GRcade consensus is about Chappie, but I thought it was atrocious and barely watchable, and I say that as a obsessive fan of District 9, not to mention a bigger fan of Elysium than most. To list every fault would just anger the blood, but I will say that I doubt there has ever been a less convincing screen presence than that talentless crackhead Ninja.

tbf he comes across as a bit of a brainless dick for the entire thing (presumably because he kind of is), which is exactly how he was meant to come across.

I enjoyed Chappie. I've never seen another of his films (none of them have ever really appealed to me) and didn't really get hyped up for Chappie, so it ended up being enjoyable enough. Thought it got a bit unnecessarily bloody towards the end given the tone of the rest of the film, but it didn't make me think "jesus christ this talentless hack can't make movies what are they doing" so I'm still excited for this new Alien.

Whilst I have my doubts over the story side of things (which to be honest will never meet my unrealistic expectations as my brain basically wants Aliens again), I definitely think that Blomkamp has the best chance of replicating that gritty, lived-in future technology that Ridley Scott & James Cameron nailed in the first 2 films.

I thought District 9 was over hyped guff, and Elysium sacrificed narrative coherency for the sake of The Message, and I've not seen Chappie, but all the both at least tried something, and it's not like the Alien franchise is some untouched, virginal work of art. The Alien franchise is 2 good movies, a couple of mediocre ones and then a fuckton of retarded face rape. I mean, what is Blomkamp going to do, strawberry float the franchise worse than Prometheus? Impossible.

Mostly agree with all of that. Especially the comments about both District 9 and Elysium.

Ban request. For all of that but particularly the infantile bit.

Oh and great news about Biehn.

I agree with Cal for once. 1 is easily the best, I didn't like 2 so much, 3 was alright, 4 was good.

Normally I'd love to agree with you but the infantile comment has made me retroactively relike District 9.

Alien Resurrection does have good set designs but apart from all that.... the film sucks. BIG TIME.

I love Alien, Aliens and Alien 3, but I always prefer the original as its much more tense horror film. Aliens is good when you just want to switch off and enjoy the ride.

Alien Resurrection is a very good tea coaster, though.

I hated Alien Resurrection and not huge fan of 3 but first 2 are classics. I really liked Prometheus though... :shifty:

I liked Prometheus too, but only because of the lore. As a standalone movie it really isn't very good.

Aliens, however, is one of my top three movies of all time - in spite of its flaws.
