Understand it's nothing like the books - and doesn't try to be as they think trying to ape Adams would be off and a mish mash of ideas.

Tell me it gets better than the first episode

It gets better - but it doesn't fundamentally change - other than by about episode 5 or 6 it starts pulling all the random interactions/coincidences together into something.

If you didn't like episode 1 I'm not sure it'll alter your opinion on it.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is sooo good! Started watching last night, and ended up binging on 5 episodes, and a 6th on the bus this morning. Thoroughly recommended.

The 6th has my favorite scene in recent memory

Thanks for the info  I'll give the second episode a watch just in case. I like the Dirk/Todd interaction so far but everything else seems a bit too... American, almost. Too bombastic.

Did anyone actually watch the UKTV version with Stephen Mangan and Darren Boyd?

Basically make sure to think of it as it's own thing and not (despite the title :P) a version of DG seems to be what the internet says.

Episodes 1-4 (and tbh parts of 5 and 6) are confusing. You're not sure what's happening and why. But characters (both protagonists and antagonists) are in the same boat. It's a very odd structure for a TV show - no one knows what all the strange coincidence and connections means (or who half the other people/groups involved).

It's fun to watch (DG is basically just the 11th Doctor) but it's confusing - you're mostly watching it for the characters reactions to events they (and you) don't understand.

It's only later on in the show when everything starts to 'click' and be explained (sort of) and you understand what (mostly) everything is and how/why.

That's exactly what I'd be hoping for in a Dirk Gently story.

This new Netflix show seems to be getting some traction at the mo, comparisons to Stranger Things. From the trailer will definitely give it a watch.

Still haven't bothered watching Stranger Things because I was sick to death of everyone going on about it.

Your loss.

Anyway I've tried to watch The Expanse.

Does it get better? The whole "space junk" visuals are getting too boring for me.

Didn't bother watching Making a Murderer for the same reason either. Not arsed.

Second episode down. When he threw the dog off the bridge

It really doesn't need the Dirk Gently "branding", though. I almost don't like it as much because it's got absolutely stuff all to do with the Douglas Adams books (I mean, is he going to have some ridiculous backstory now too? :dread: ).

Should've just had the courage to release it as it's own thing rather than try and tie it to an existing IP.

I reckon if enough of us quote this then it will be too popular for Maf to bother reading.

I'm so angry that with shows that become popular. Oh how I wish I had watched these shows before anyone else did.

If I have to hear about my mother talking about "Stranger Things" one more time, I'm so gonna cancel my subscription and not even bother.

The whole reason I even got Netflix was that *everyone* kept banging on about it  So for me to not bother watching a show because people are going on about it seems kinda counter-productive. I totally understand almost having the hump with a show because people won't shush about how good it is, but every hyped Netflix show I have bothered to tune in to has been worth it. And there's a shed load I haven't seen yet.
