So we have our Master Mario Maker for 2018!!!

Watch the results show HERE!!
(Results start at 01:26:00)

The Watching Artist proved the adage of third time lucky and defeated OldSoulCyborg and Supachipz to the coveted title!

I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who took part this time around. As always it wouldn't work without you all making and voting on these levels so this contest really belongs to you all.

A huge thanks to our three finalists, all of whom submitted excellent levels from the very beginning. I think you'll all agree that the standard was exceptionally high as usual.

Sadly I wasn't able to find time to create my usual montage videos for the final, but I still had an amazing time playing your levels.

As I said on the stream this will be the last Are You A Master Mario Maker contest for the forseeable future. The lower number of participants I put down to the number of people who have either gotten rid of, or packed away their Wii U's. This means that until there is a Switch version of the game (Either a port or a sequel) the contest will go dormant. Be assured that as soon as they announce a new version I will be planning on bringing this back, with every expectation that it will be the biggest and hopefully best contest I'll have run yet.

It's always a pleasure to run the contest and even if the unthinkable happens and there are no-more Mario Maker games I will always look back on my time with them fondly. Thank you once more guys. You made it all worth it.

Dear Nintendo,

Please do not make another Super Mario Maker game.

Yours ever lovingly,
TWA

Er. So erm.......... wat.

Wow.

Firstly. Sorry I wasn't about tonight. I've been really busy the last few days and today just sucked the life away from me. Not sure my heart could take classic Cheeky rage. Last week I thought he was going to kill me. I wrote week. It was two weeks ago. Thats my brain at the mo. :dread: I honestly don't know how I've come out on top here. Finally evil has vanquished the light of OSC. I have my revenge. 8-)

It was a good stream. I enjoyed Devlin breaking and fixing my levels all at once. As a wise man once said when playing Rocket League "what a save!" Obviously I designed them with such safety measures. :shifty:

Secondly. Thank you to the people who voted for me. You are fools. I mean really? REALLY? The others were robbed and should ask for a refund. Oh wait. The competition was free. Hahaha. Suck it losers. Honestly I dunno why I won over you guys. I thought OSC bomb for clues level was just pretty much a masterpiece. And Chipz, that 40 Secs pushed very hard at the top. Tip for this level Dev- When you get the key you cant jump down off the vine and not have to wait. Saves you a number of secs. Also Dev, in my Yoshi water level, just eat one fire from Bowser and go down and shoot the row of bombs at the bottom. Its much much easier that way. And as for eating the bones from the doors......... what are you doing man? OSC and Chipz have been fantastic. At times across the competition I've felt both have been hard done by at certain points. Probably because Jawa voted without playing the levels. So it felt right the both of you should be here. I'm just surprised to have beaten you both. Although not as surprised as I am that I didn't end up level with someone.

And finally.....

Thank you Devlin. I dont know what madness it is that drives you to do this. But I am grateful for all the effort you have put into not just this year but the previous 2 competitions. I can stand alongside Jazzem "no really, this magikoopa is a boss fight" Jizzem and OldSoul "head the POW blocks" Cyborg as a winner of this incredible event. An event that is totally clean and not corrupt in anyway. You should be a hero to mankind. But instead you are stuck here hosting a competition for nerds to make Mario levels and get watched by often single digit figure numbers of viewers. So instead you're just a hero to me. So thank you. I'm sorry for all the pain I've caused you. But thats often how love works.

From,
Your special bastard

P.S. Lime, I hope you are doing ok chum. VOTE LIME

The Final was a wonderful finish to a terrific tournament! The three-way challenge for the title was an exciting approach and all three finalists delivered some top creations. It was ace to see some former Makers and fans join the live show, such as Dragon, Jazzem and Grum!

Congratulations to Matt on achieving victory. It takes a lot of time and thought to make a range of courses and, after challenging for the title in previous events, it was lovely to see that true Wario evil could win out in the end ;-). OSC and Chipz battled all the way and I suspect that the voting was tight. OSC astounds with his block knowledge, and Chipz, your "40 Seconds of Fear" course has achieved legendary status!

I echo Matt's words about Cheeky Devlin; he's a true Mario Maker Director for organising and running the tournament so effectively... as well as displaying some astonishing game skills with lots of the submitted levels!

Of course, we will all now take a wee break from Mario Maker and re-charge our creative batteries. But I feel sure that, when Nintendo announces that Maker will have a magestic arrival on Switch, we will all be eager to return to this tournament of fun and adventure!

PS I totally support TWA in shouting - really rather loudly - "Vote Lime!" .

Wow! Such fantastic news that Matt, my idol, wins the AYAMMM crown!

Well played, Matt, well deserved and finally you get the recognition you deserve for some truly magnificent (and at time insane!) design! :D

And thanks for the support guys. This isn't the place to go into details but I really appreciate the mentions!

I look forward to checking out the stream when I get a chance. Can it be preserved (youtube?) in case I don't get a chance for a while?

I don't have plans for getting a switch at this point, but if "Dreams" on PS4 turns out to be as good as we hope (and doesn't take months to produce something decent :dread: ), then a competition on that might be incredible!

Just watched the rest of the final. Dev, you looked like a pro today some of the moves you pulled off and saves you made. Thank you for all that you do for this tournament, it’s a pleasure to watch you play through our levels every week and I am really thankful for the comp. being able to focus on creativity and fun and being able to play some fantastic levels over the past few months got me through a really tough period of my life and the slight time extension when I had to go back to Wales for My Grandads funeral when I was all ready to quit was greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Matt: congratulations, a well deserved win with some fantastic levels. That Wario/Waluigi Level was fantastic, as was the Underwater level. Some of the ideas you had make my levels look dumbed down and I wished I had half the creativity of you. It’s been a pleasure playing your levels.

Same can be said for Cyborg also, I can’t fathom how you can get some of the mechanics of your levels to work, it’s great stuff and has been fun playing your levels and working out what strange unknown mechanic will come up next: your Pipe Clues Level was fantastic! Well deserved 2nd Place for you sir!

Thank you to everyone taking the time to play and vote for the levels, but most importantly, everyone for making them. Playing some fantastic levels each week, that I know are guaranteed to be quality, is why I take part in this competition, and gives me great joy. I will miss it while it goes away (especially as the time difference makes it hard to play anything live with you guys) but look forward to it coming back for Switch. It’s easily my most anticipated game at this point and probably one of my favourite games ever, which I definitely wouldn’t be able to say without each of you!

Thank you all

Sorry I didn't vote. I don't know where the game is and while I cod've watched the VoD, my headset broke and I didn't want to watch it without sound. I am now waiting on a new headset. It means until I get a new one I won't be watching Who or streaming or anything. I of course am being a fussy got, but my broken pair had amazing sound and, well a cheaper pair won't cut it

I wish I was still playing this, but I just can't be arsed with getting the Wii U out of the loft and using that horrible gamepad again. In fact I barely put 10 hours in to this because of that stupid thing.

Good levels guys (watched the stream)

Not sure if anyone still has their Wii U set up, but my grandson made his first uploadable SMM level on my account, would be lovely if it had some plays and some stars if possible

Thank you everyone.

Jawa, bear in mind I had to complete it to upload it. He is 6, and made one of those "fling everything at once at you' type levels.

You will not survive this!

(actually it is quite doable
if you use the powerups
)

Well that was insane.

Total item spam, but still not the worst level I've ever played by quite a margin.

10/10 would play again.

Oh and I've starred it and set a 9.4 second time on it. :datass:
