Hey guys.

Been having some pc issues tonight and don't think I'll be streaming. Should have it ready for tomorrow night at 8pm though.

I'll post later to clarify.

Apologies!

Hi, Cheeky. Are you still planning to run the stream at 8, dude?

Quarter-Finals!

Image

So a bit of a tricky one for our makers this time around.

Mario has traditionally been accompanied by his brother Luigi in most of his (2D at least) adventures. So this time around I want you to design a level with 2 distinct phases. A Mario phase and a Luigi phase.

Each phase should be performed by a different Mario brother. Use Mystery Mushrooms if you have the Mario/Luigi ones. If you have no way of getting Luigi into the game at all that's fine, just make sure there is a clear distinction between each segment.

Ideally there should be some interaction between the two phases. This could be as simple as taking a P-Switch from one to the other, or it could be something smarter and trickier. Your imagination is your only limiting factor here, but I have a feeling the smarter and more original the solution the more voters will like them.

So a tricky one, to separate the men from the boys.

As always you will have until 8pm on Sunday to pm your levels to me. Good Luck makers!

On a related note, the stream at 8pm will reveal who the Quarter-Finalists are so be sure to join me to find out!

So after 5 weeks we've reached the end of the group stages!

Unfortunately this means our first elimination. Sadly HSH28 will be removed from the contest at this time.

HSH28, as always it's been a pleasure to have you here and I look forward to seeing you in the next contest!

On a brighter note, Lime and The Watching Artist have both secured their place in the Semi-Final and there are two spots up for grabs!

Which of our four Quarter-Finalists will meet them there? Existing points no longer have any relevance and their continued participation hinges on just one level each!

Join me on Sunday at 9pm to see what our Quarter-Finalists come up with!

I'm disappointed in you all. Matt's level was clearly better than mine (those aesthetics!). But thanks!

Sad to see HSH28 leave. Eliminations had to happen at some point I guess, but it's too soon!

Interesting guidelines this week. Should be fun.

re: Bowser not appearing at the end of my level for Matt:
I thought I'd fixed that! It's probably to do with the launchers, which when placed over an enemy will prevent the enemy from spawning. I put a one-way behind Bowser to prevent him from walking backwards into the launchers before they're loaded, but maybe he walked through the one-way before the one-way itself was loaded! That's my hypothesis for now at least.

Yeah, it's sad to see H leave this round. I won't forget that crazy "rave" / chaos level  . Congrats to Lime and Matt on moving into the semi-finals.

I'm panicking a little about building the level this week because, if my diary runs to plan, I won't get time to work on it at all on Friday through Sunday. I gotta build it tomorrow and Wednesday, really :o :dread: .

Like I said before, even though perhaps I wasn't able to come up with any really good levels this time, I have enjoyed coming back to the game, both to make levels and play the ones others made (well mostly anyway).

I look forward to seeing the excellent levels I know are yet to come from the competition.

Started playing around with ideas. I haven't get the Luigi character available, so I'll be using a different one :-).

Am I going crazy? We gotta use the Super Mario Bros mode to get the different characters... but you can't carry things (such as a P-switch) in that mode?

Thats........ a very good point.

I'd forgotten that Mystery Mushrooms only appear in SMB levels like that.

Obviously you can't carry a P-Switch, so you might need to come up with a different way to influence the other phase/section of the level. P-Switches were only ever a suggestion, rather than a requirement.

Devlin, that's all okay, dude - I only discovered this during my playing about with ideas :) . Y'know, this task is really tough... but I think I have something that'll work.

Really pleased to be in the safety zone this week, especially with my idol, Matt! It's a surprise to me that I achieved this over the past weeks - Thanks everyone! :D

I will likely just bask in the position this week (due to personal commitments I'll be unable to generate a level), as I know the competition really ramps up at this point and I'm not great under pressure - Getting any further for me will be a huge bonus!

I'll definitely play and vote, though.

Note:
I am easily bribed for votes, as long such activities are not discussed in this thread in front of Cheeky.
