Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told investors on Thursday that Ubisoft plans to publish a new Assassin's Creed game during the 2014 financial year. The game, developed across several of Ubisoft's global games development studios, will likely be introduced at E3 this year. Although Guillemot didn't go into too much detail, it was confirmed the game will take place in a new time period and star a new character. He made the announcement during an investor presentation where it was claimed that Assassin's Creed 3 sales have reached 12 million units globally.

A new hero already? So no love for wooden Ratonhnhaké:ton?

Assassin's Creed IV confirmed:
Pirate-themed Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has been officially confirmed by publisher Ubisoft, and will have 60 minutes of exclusive gameplay on PlayStation 3. Packshot artwork shows that the game will at least be released for PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360. The imagery confirms its rumoured pirate setting, while a sticker on the PS3 version reveals the exclusive hour of gameplay - the same deal offered with Assassin's Creed 3 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Yesterday, numerous leaks hinted at the game's existence and offered up a few extra details - that the game is set in 1715 and stars a pirate assassin named Edward Kenway - father of Haytham and grandfather of Connor from AC3. Eurogamer will be able to reveal full details of the game on Monday at 5pm UK time.

As much as I love Assassin's Creed, isn't it about time they wrapped it up already? I always imagined that III would have been a fitting end to the series, with the whole 2012 thing and all that. And yet...no. :fp:

I love this series. I hope it never ends!

I want more Connor and more 18th century settings though. No new character just yet.

Well, there's one thing to be said about them releasing an AC game every single year, but most of them have been pretty good, and they seem to have realised 3 was really quite boring what with having a new guy and time period already. I will at least be interested in seeing what it's all about, since moving around was a lot cooler in 3, and if everything else is different, that can only be good.

I think the names of every poster in here who says they're excited by this "groundbreaking news" should be taken down, then if they're ever found in a thread complaining about cashcows, or the same old games being released each year they should be perma-banned with immediate effect.

If only Ubi could somehow be working on a new IP while at the same time also satisfying those gamers who enjoy their AC...

Hmm.

Oh. strawberry floating wait. They are!

I'm a bit miffed they aren't giving Connor and the AC III era more of a chance and so this new game is going to have to be something very special indeed for me to buy it on release.

A release "during the 2014 financial year" suggest a Christmas 2014 release. However it doesn't exclude the possibility of a new AC III part 2 game this Christmas.

Connor's not so important to me as Ezio was; he's rather wooden, even when speaking in his native tongue, though his Colonial Assassin outfit is pretty damn kickass. I do like him though, and I really do appreciate the developers telling his story; I think he deserves at least one more outing.

I'm much more frustrated that they aren't giving us early industrial London and revolutionary Paris to play around in. I'd be fine with getting a new character if they gave us those two cities in that time period.

The worst part about the whole damn series is the sci-fi gooseberry fool. It's just so boring.

Via Reddit and GAF...

I just posted this in r/gaming but was told of this subreddit. Anyway, I was on a flight where the lady in the row in front of me was working on a powerpoint presentation on marketing strategies of several gaming titles. And one that stood out the most was AC4: Black Flags, aimed for release 2013 Holiday season according to her slide. It already had a cool looking logo for it.

Unfortunately I didn't take any photo, just wanted to share it with all the AC fans, and give those who are trying to figure out the next story line a little hint.

EDIT: thanks everyone for the nice karma and comments! It feels good to be able to contribute a bit to one of my favourite game ( I still need to play AC3 though..)

Yup. Dunno if its ac 4 but i heard the titles black flag and golden age. New lead character is rumored to be a father of a playable character and will have co op alongside a famous scottish pirate.

I've just started Assassins Creed 3 and I think it's bloody brilliant. Loved the opening period on the ship.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people are suffering from Assassins Creed fatigue, so were naturally disappointed when AC3 wasn't the big revolution Ubisoft had promised.

I haven't played it since 2.

Rumor: Assassin's Creed 4 to be titled 'Black Flag;' will feature pirates

Oh the coming months to E3, how I love thee. Latest rumors have been reporting some interesting news regarding the "Assassin's Creed" series. We all know rumors are abundant this time of the year, but with recent reports during Ubisoft's quarterly earnings call, some of those rumors may be showing some truth.

On top of Ubisofts very own Yves Guillemot confirming that the next Assassin's Creed will take place in a new time period with a new hero, other rumors point in a similar direction. Apparently (and I use that word gingerly), the next installment in the Assassin's Creed series will be titled "Assassin's Creed: Black Flag" and will feature some form of a pirate story arch and/or elements.

View slideshow: Naval battles and pirate theme's are not new to the series, check out some screenshots.
This is actually not too surprising, as the two latest installments in the series; Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed: Liberation feature naval battle game mechanics and cultural influence from that era.

It will be interesting to see how this story progresses, as the popularity of the naval sequences from Assassin's Creed III and atmosphere of liberation were two of the most popular elements from both games.

I haven't cared for this franchise since one but a game based around pirates I can dig :shifty: Just please, PLEASE get rid of the modern Conner gooseberry fool. I don't know anyone who likes it
