It was hardly going to change the tone from bat sh*t mental but yeah I didn't really like the trailer, but mostly because it showed no gameplay.

It looked like Crackdown 1, not a good thing sure but I wouldn't call Crackdown a GTA 3 knock off.

Yeah fair enough, I was going to say it looks like a PS2 game but wanted to be more specific. I'm not sure if a third person shooter can get away with playing like that now.

It was a different era when C1 launched. Most people bought it for the Halo 3 mp Beta and then realized that the game itself was pretty good.

I can't see it breaking any records scoring wise but if it's 4 player co op and bigger and better than C1 that'll be enough for me to play on gamepass.

Polygon: Just for clarity then, it sounds like what you’re saying is this ... The new VP role for Phil and obviously the financial investment from Microsoft speaks to why this game is being delayed. This represents a new level of investment with the intention to get something like Crackdown to be an IP on the level of Gears.

Matt Booty: Yeah, and what I’ll say there is we feel supported to do the right thing.

Polygon: Right. So with the past two years of Crackdown 3 demos we’ve seen the campaign mode. But, we haven’t seen the online destruction mode stuff. Is that still part of the game or has focus been shifted to the single-player campaign?

Matt Booty: It is still part of it. We’re not showing a lot of details about that here. We’ll have more to show as the year goes on.

Tbf there was no hype around the very first game with people only got it for the Beta of Halo 3. I guess seeing some bad gameplay trailer isn't as good as playing the game?

Crackdown 3’s original co-developer and series creator are no longer on the project

Booty also confirmed that Microsoft is no longer working with Jones or Reagent Games on Crackdown 3. “We’re just working with Sumo [Digital] right now,” said Booty. “That’s our main development partner. And as you know, I’m sure you know, any game has got a number of folks that come in to help us with content and some development, but Sumo’s our main ... Sumo is our main partner on Crackdown.”

The status of Reagent has been a mystery since Epic announced the acquisition of Cloudgine in January. Even though Cloudgine and Reagent are technically separate companies, they seem to have close ties — Jones having co-founded Cloudgine and founded Reagent, and having served as creative director at the latter. Following the Cloudgine acquisition, multiple Reagent employees left the company to join Jones at Epic or take jobs elsewhere, according to their personal LinkedIn pages. On LinkedIn, only three people have Reagent listed as their current employer. Two of those employees have added other jobs since November 2017. The other, when contacted via email, confirmed they no longer work at Reagent, but declined to go into detail regarding the project or the status of the company.

Last week at E3 2018, we spoke with Microsoft Studios head Matt Booty about the status of the destruction mode, which the company hasn’t shown since that 2015 demo. Booty confirmed the destruction-heavy online multiplayer mode remains in development. “It is still part of [Crackdown 3],” said Booty. “We’re not showing a lot of details about that here. We’ll have more to show as the year goes on.”

Maybe, but Phil did say he was playing a 'full build', still might make it's release date (although, it wouldn't be the worst thing if it was delayed as it's out the same day as 3 other AAA games)

I'd forgotten about this. I never did get round to Crackdown 2. Maybe they'll put it on Game Pass/GWG and BC to help promote the new one.

A little industry birdy told me a while ago that this has been in serious trouble for a long, long time. There's been at least one full reset during its development.

As Photek says...I wouldn't hold out much hope.

If that's the case then surely they'd have shown it instead of the janky single player gameplay they've been showing off.

While I'm admittedly not a fan of the series the multiplayer destruction looked incredible.

The destruction might be done (or the bulk of it for it to be tinkered with later when all of the different components come together) but perhaps something else isn't for online so it'd still not be possible to demonstrate to the public.

They demonstrated it to the public in 2014 though, since then, nothing.

Was it even genuine? Or was it taken back to the drawing board and since scrapped?
