Having recently replayed both Prey and Dishonored 2 I had an itch for some more immersive sim goodness and decided to return to the latest (and possibly last! ) entry in the DX universe last night.

Now I know that this game is in no way perfect, the story is weak and half finished, there's no decent antagonist, the characters are all a bit dull, it doesn't have enough locations and those it does have are all fairly samey, some of the mechanics are much more inherently "gamey" than they were in the original 2000 DX. But in spite of all that there is just something about the core gameplay loop of this that just taps directly into my pleasure centres!

Put me in an interesting setting with loads of scope for to exploration at my own pace, systems to hack and manipulate, emails to read, enemies to either evade or find clever ways to eliminate, and don't try to hold my hand the whole time and you will see me smiling all day long. :D

I ended up playing this until silly o'clock in the morning as I just get so absorbed into the experience, as I say there is lots wrong with the game but Prague remains a fantastic hub to explore and the team behind both this and Human Revolution are still some of the best at telling stories through incidental details and world-building. The number of interesting peeks into the world you can discover even before progressing hardly anything main-plot-wise is still impressive, and so much of it can just be learned by really looking around the places you can explore.

With this and the recent Arkane games getting a relatively muted response in terms of sales it does make me sad to think that these types of experiences are going to become more and more rare. Hopefully Cyberpunk will fill some of the void!

I loved this game. I think it is better than Human Revolution. The sidequests are really good.

If anyone is after a Heretic/Hexen styled game then I cannot recommend Amid Evil enough. Its still in early access, but it now has seven complete levels and the updates are still coming through regularly

Was playing it last night and it's a blast.

Been playing diablo 3 on Xbox one with best mate, great fun even if we only played for two hours before we called it for night. Hoping to play more of it whenever both of us are free, also thinking about starting The Evil Within tonight

As I'm looking forward to DMC 5 I thought I'll play through and actually complete DMC Definitive edition on PS4 and so far I'm enjoying it. Combat is fun, though I felt it was a little too slow for my liking, so I enabled Turbo mode and it's feels great now. Platforming is alright though I keep jumping of the edges of platforms.

I've tried Devil May Cry several times over the years, the latest ones are on gamepass on Xbox and I tried them, they are all, without fail, DREADFUL.

I only ever managed to click with the first Devil May Cry, for whatever reason the sequels have all left me cold. :(

Horizon Zero Dawn
I stopped playing this when God of War came out but fired it up over the weekend. My god this game is good. I say this as someone who really enjoyed AC: Origins but this is a generational leap ahead, the visuals, cut scenes, story and combat are on another level. This is closer to BoTW than your typical cookie cutter open world game.

It is very good, excellent in places, but a massive downside is not being able to climb anything as you can in the two games you mentioned.

I'm pretty close to finishing Horizon; put something like 100hrs into it and I still really enjoy the combat and taking down the machines. Just doesn't get old.

I haven't played botw, but tbh there weren't too many moments were I thought there was an issue climbing. For the most part i was able to seek out and jump up through my own routes. Didn't really bother me that much.

Will def be getting Frozen Wilds when it's on sale again!

Started Pokémon Fire Red recently for my streams. It's been rather enjoyable. Though while it has never happened in the past, I had a strawberry floating hard time with Misty. Bitch kept one-shotting my team with Water Pulse. :x

Anyway, it's been fun. I have only 3 of me team so far:

Matt
Grum and
Jazzem ♀️

Will be adding 3 more obvs.

Decided to pick up something I've not played in a while.

NFS Rivals (PS4).

Forgot how good at can be, although it's very difficult to get back to grips with coming from the likes of PCars and GT Sport.

Yeah I can't argue with that. I'd take the quality of the voice acting and story telling over climbing though. It's so much better than anything I've seen in an open world game.

The highpoint of HZD was, amazingly, the story. The Exposition Caves were a little much, but I still hoovered up every piece of lore I could find.

Did you also buy the expansion stuff? It has alternative play modes and is well worth the few quid it costs. Demolition

Are we going update the thread title this year for Halloween as with last year?

Thought I'd try out Laser League via Game Pass. I really like the look of this game and the great reviews got my hopes up a lot. Sadly the controls on this are far too woolly to get much enjoyment out of it. I'm not sure if it's the netcode or whatever but half the time you'll be killed by something that doesn't touch you, or touch a laser and it doesn't activate. It's infuriating, because the basics of the game are well done, but it currently plays like ass. Doesn't help either that no-one is online on the game at all so more often than not you're paired with 5 AI players and they're all insanely good.

Destiny on PS4. After beating the campaign in Destiny 2 I decided to return to the original as I gave up in November 2014 right before the DLC started being released I believe and want to play through as much of it as I can before buying 2's DLC. I've beaten the main campaign so I'm about ready to get started on the DLC. Oddly enough it will prove cheaper to buy a copy of Destiny: The Collection on eBay than it will to get just the DLC from the PlayStation store.

Surprisingly the game is still really busy and not just established players either. This week I've seen dozens of low level/low Grimoire score players running around.

Been put on X-ray today which can often be quiet for the most part. Some porters like to read a book, (which I have done in the past), do a cross word etc, but today I've taken in the PSP and am continuing with Breath of Fire 3.

Getting paid to play video games. :D
