Severed (Vita) - it's really, really good. I think I might have actually worn a groove in the screen on one of the bosses. Feel guilty about not having bought it. If you've got a Vita and PS+ then there is really no excuse.

Their other game, Guacamelee, is fantastic. Keep meaning to try Severed.

Played Fallout 3 all day yesterday. Sorted the crashes out pretty much, basically the game gooseberry fools itself if your PC has more than two cores. Enjoying it now that it doesn't crash everytime a lot of enemies are on screen. Done a few side quests, my character is sitting around the level 13-14 mark, mains melee, lasers, speech and the obligatory lockpick skill.

Fortunately, being CPU intensive works in my PCs favour. I only have a 750ti GPU, but the 8 core Xeon runs the Wii version of MK at a higher resolution brilliantly.

Evoland 2 - PC

Holy gooseberry fool, a game i'm actually enjoying. A clever rpg which riffs on chrono trigger, zelda, metal gear and others as well as games themselves. As you travel around in time the game's graphics and mechanics change - i went back in time and the graphics down-res'd to 8-bit NES-era but apparently it goes all the way from gameboy-esque LCD up to fairly modern graphics stopping at fire emblem on the way.

I love Drinkbox Studio's stuff but (and Severed is no different) there is always one bit that is completely beyond my abilities. It's not always critical to finishing the game but if you want to platinum it then you need to do it. And no amount of grinding will do, it's usually something deeply muscle memory based. I'm just too old for that now.

Metal Gear solid 2 (extreme, EXTREeEeEeEeEeEeEeEeme mode)

Done well so far but have now reached the fight I've been dreading: girlie boy vs the harrier.

Edit:

Who's yo daddy.

Done :toot:

Edit 2: I lived another day only to face a new nightmare : babysitting mission.

This is beyond ridiculous.
Can't for the life of me, protect Emma. What is it with Japanese game devs & their weird craze with baby sitting missions. Just jog on. I'm trying to stop Solidus & im pissing around with this bollocks. Christ. :x

Edit 3: Done, spent a few hours doing it but finally got there. What a stupendous, mickey taking, vile, disgusting, wretched soul sucking, over the top, draining the god damn fricking life out of me part that was.
Jesus strawberry floating Christ.

Not looking forward to Arsenal / tengu.

Far Cry 4 on PS4. I picked this up pretty cheap last week. I think last I checked I was about a third of the way through this. While it's decent enough thus far it's a little too similar Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon.

I'm glad I left around a year between Far Cry 3 and this as I don't think I would have enjoyed it had I played it right after much like when I thought it would be a good idea to play the Professor Layton games back to back and got as far as starting the second one before getting bored and giving up.

Trying to beat Solidus on extreme in Metal Gear Solid 2.

He loves his missiles, I bet the missile shooting twit takes them to bed with him.

He looooooooooooves his missiles. He just can't get enough of them

Edit: sent the filthy animal packing

Just started Dead Rising on the PS4. Quite disappointed with this, I thought it was some kind of HD remake but it feels old. The character models are clearly last gen (and early last gen at that) and the controls for gun aiming are horrendous. Good job I bought all 3 of the DR games.

Started playing Bioshock infinite yesterday and I must have played it for a good ten hours or so far. Absolutely brilliant it is

I don't know how it's happened but that motion sickness I usually get with first person games has gone. I managed resident evil 7 with no issues and I'm managing this fine as well. Must have been something to do with the lower resolutions or frame rates of the older games.

Rapidly-greying is Mediocre to Average at games :fp:

Sniper Elite III on PS4. I went back to this yesterday after taking a couple of weeks break. Initially I'd forgotten the controls and ended up taking a "Rambo" approach rather than the more-suited stealth style. Luckily, being on Easy mode, I got away with it! Playing this'll morning, I returned to a slower pace of attack and made more headway. It really is great fun; I enjoy sneaking around, marking enemies and taking them out from a distance.

I'm currently in the middle of episode 5; just over half-way through the campaign. As I said before, I'd not previously played a sniper game and I'm glad that I now have - it's right up my street :toot: .

Still playing a load of Street Fighter V. I really enjoy the game. It's really nice that it's cross platform as I can reliably get a multiplayer match going on. Being trying to unlock characters by winning fight money although it's becoming real up hill battle to get more, as I start to do the easier challenges.

Still Far Cry 4. About 75% of the way through this now, just took out the third fortress. The difficulty definitely picks up a bit once you hit North Kyrat.

Excite Truck
Mm. Started off as reasonably enjoyable, but it has quickly become dull and tedious. The lack of variety in locations, coupled with the crash-happy nature of the racing and the annoying handling just makes me not enjoy it. I've completed the bronze and silver cups but will probably give up now. Only paid £1 for it so feel I've seen and done as much as I want to for the price. Looks awful as well.

Sonic Generations
Pleasantly surpised by this. Enjoyed the demo years back, and saw it going cheap on Steam. Looks pretty nice, runs smooth and fast, and I love the re-imagined levels and throwbacks to the original games in the form of music, jokes and little nods here and there. Plenty to do as well. Only downside is the controls, which are awful at times, particularly with modern Sonic. How, after making so many games in the 3D style, they still can't get the controls right, is shocking. Even the 2D jumping isn't great; unresponsive and weirdly floaty. That being said, the 3D sections aren't as terrible as in recent games, and even verge on entertaining. Finally, this just goes to show how terrible the new Sonic looks. 'Classic' Sonic is so much more visually appealing and charming than the obnoxious, crap-looking new model. Looking forward to playing more of this though, just got to adjust to the crap factor of the controls.

Banjo Tooie
Steadily working through this. I have about 5 or 6 worlds completely done. I'm not massivley keen on Hailfire Peaks as a level, nor Cloud Cuckooland, which are unfortunately where I need to be spending most of my time now. I've been to the final level, and attempted the quiz, but didn't get too far. Hopefully the end quiz/boss isn't as annoying as it was in BK. Decent game, but nowhere near the level of the original.

The House of the Dead: Overkill
Just started this. It looks horrendous, but it's mindless fun, and I imagine will be a good way to kill some time in a mindless shooting kind of way.

One thing I remember about Excite Truck, you can play custom soundtracks from an SD card and 'Burn, Baby Burn' by Ash sync's just about perfectly with the countdown to the start of a race.

Slow and careful is definitely the best way to enjoy the game, imo. The game rarely, if ever, hurries you to accomplish your tasks and you can pretty much do them in any order you choose. I spent two and half hours just clearing one map. Never got shot at once. Once you know when to use suppressed rounds vs ordinary rounds (or just going for a sneaky melee kill) the game pretty much makes you the Boss and then it's all about careful strategy and scoping out every situation, noting AI patrol routines before deciding on the best way to clear the enemies.

It is possible, on a much less controlled scale, to approach Wildlands in a similar fashion. Wildlands, however, suffers from a tendency towards daft gamification - one mistake and endless waves of brainless AI start swarming you and the whole thing falls apart rather quickly. I've done a few sneaky stealth missions in Wildlands where I've 'ghosted' into a mission, achieved the goal and then slipped back out completely unnoticed. It's just a lot harder to avoid having the game lapse into absolute daftness than it is in Sniper 4.

Looking forward to Sniper 3 Ghost Warrior. Hopefully a much better alternative to Wildlands.
