Right, I've prepared my list:

> Pro Evolution Soccer (PS4)
> Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)
> The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)
> Final Fantasy XIV Online (PS4)
> The Elder Scrolls Online (PS4)
> The Crew 2 (PS4)
> No Man's Sky (PS4)
> Bloodborne (PS4)
> Destiny 2 (PS4)

Plus Mario Kart 8 (Switch) and Rocket League (Switch) if I join the GRcade Monday and Tuesday night online sessions.

That offers a broad range of experiences and it should help me to be more focused on my gaming. Lets see how this goes... it's live as of now!

Saints Row The Third

Enjoying this a lot. Plenty of variety, always feels like there's another activity or something else to do if you're bored of what you're doing. Missions have been fun so far, and the gunplay and melee combat's good. Only slight annoyance is the bullet-sponge enemies and the gang/police helicopters that seem to appear at the drop of a hat and stay laser-focused on you until you die or get to a safehouse.

Onrush & Gravel (PS4 Pro version)

Image Image

Every so often - and it's a strange thing - a bunch of games loosely following the same trends release around the same time. Right on cue, here comes Onrush from Codemasters and Gravel from Milestone. Both are off-road racers, both aspire to outrageous arcade lunacy, with wildly exaggerated physics, screen-filling particle systems, and GUI clutter and art treatments best described as vivid (if often unintentionally comical) and both are being marketed as principally online MP racers.

Interestingly, both are an absolute hoot to play. Gravel is perhaps more down-to-earth (quite literally) than Onrush, with its cars feeling more tied to their tracks and governed by a semblance of actual racing physics. It's tracks, cars and modes are varied and you'll find plenty to do online or off. Onrush is as unapologetically mad as a bag of kittens and its racing is just as often vertical as horizontal, with incredible death-defying jumps and simply nutty collisions resulting in spectacular crashes, tumbles and multi-car mayhem. Its levels are gorgeous (especially the first coastal track which is stunning to look at - just a shame they went for a coniferous Pacific North West look rather than a lush, tropical palm-fringed look, IMO) and overall, like Gravel, the game contains plenty of vehicles, modes, and tracks to keep you busy on or offline.

I've had tremendous fun with both games. It's difficult to choose a favorite - I think these two compete fairly equally for plaudits in every department. If you're up for no-holds-barred roughhousing in some very attractive off-road environments either game will serve you well. Onrush perhaps edges ahead for sheer mayhem, but Gravel does an equally admirable job of conveying the chaos and sudden panic of hi-speed offroading in a slightly more formal racing setting.

Both games, despite their unhelpful marketing, feature a ton of content and modes for SP. Don't be fooled that these are primarily online games. Both games feature SP campaign modes in which you can steadily unlock content, upgrades and earn in-game currency or XP, etc.

Nice write-up, Cal! I've had an eye on both of those titles and I'd love to get 'em, but my gaming cash went on The Crew 2 instead. I will keep an eye out for both of those titles in future PSN sales.

Still going with Human Revolution. It still plays great but I couldn't stop thinking about that character brer brought up. Through that lens, most of the racial minority characters are done really, really badly. All the gangbangers are teeeerrible clichés of Wire characters, and all the Latinos feel the need to interject 'cabrone' or 'pendejo' as many times as possible into each sentence. It's... really badly done.

Game is still great though.

Like I mentioned, MD was disappointing. It's all classic cyberpunk tropes though, which I love, so I'm down with the universe. Neither do it quite so well as the original though.

I don't think you should play Human Revolution or Mankind Divided for the characters, story or social commentary, you should play them because cyberpunk is cool and free-form stealth games that also let you do murder runs are fun.

The side mission mini-stories are the ones that stuck with me most, much more than the overall story.

Holy moly, one of the 'agressive' responses to a Chinese character was "You all look the same to me."

Wowhee.

Maybe people don't just mean the art direction when they talk about the game's yellow filter

It's a bad joke and I feel bad

I'm currently replaying OoT 3D, and finally got round to starting Xenoblade 2. Oh, and every so often I dip into some Tomb Raider III. That game is scary as strawberry float yo

Mad.

I guess that must show some sort of progress in the industry, I can't imagine anyone getting away with that now.

I've been playing Resident Evil Revelations 2 today and I'm up to episode 4 (which I believe is the last one, if you don't count the DLC) and it's really decent. Not a top tier Resi title but certainly better than 6 and a lot of their other low tier games. I'd probably say Revelations 1 is better though but then I did put a lot of hours into it. This is actually my second play through of the game, if you ignore the fact I never quite bothered to finish it the first time around (lord knows why) and I've noticed a few differences in the game which have made me enjoy it even more.

For example, as I already have a bunch of upgraded guns, I managed to kill the first proper boss in Claire's story, which I didn't do the first time I played it. So then later on, as Barry, I got to a section of the game where I remembered that same boss coming back for another battle. Except this time, the boss never turned up because Claire had fully killed it earlier in the story. The first time I played it I didn't realise you could affect the alternating scenarios in such a way so it was a nice, little find.

Also, looking at Claire in this, they've clearly used this itiration of her for her RE2 Remake reference. When I saw her in the RE2 trailer I thought she looked too far from her original model but she's actually pretty close to RER2 Claire.
