Pokémon Yellow Version. I beat Brock last night, on the first attempt no less which I really wasn’t expecting with Pikachu as the starter. The devs clearly knew that cool as it might seem starting with Pikachu would hamstring the player once they reach Brock so they let you catch a Mankey just west of Viridian City and since rock type is weak against fighting type Mankey’s Low Kick makes short work of Brock’s Geodude and Onix.

The world is so inventive and the dialogue is excellent. The other night, a solid 30 minutes of one play session consisted of discussing the Planes of Existence with a dude in a bar.

Best narrative game ever made.

Okami HD. The first hour and a half is kinda 'eh', game truly starts to shine when you unlock more abilities. I'm in the forest level.

Really charming game. Glad to revisit it after all these years.

Doing EV training in Ultra Moon via Poké Pelago, anyone know if the play sessions continue when the system is turned off or does it need to be left in sleep?

Also trying to go back to Xenoblade Chronicles 2, shamefully dropping it down to easy to see if it improves my enjoyment of it.

I assume it continues when the system is off. I don't think I used it much myself, but all the other Poké Pelago stuff works that way.

Honestly though for EV training I'd just use SOS-chaining in combination with EV-boosting held-items. You can max out EVs for stats very quickly, and I mean very quickly. Like if I recall correctly I was able to max out Speed EVs on a Pokémon in about 5-10 minutes by SOS-chaining Zubats at a certain spot.

You can easily find a guide for it online and it's pretty simple - to get your head around, set up and then do it.

Heard about doing it that way but I've never looked into it, sounds like I should do.

Good thing about Poké Pelago is you can set off a group of upto 18 Pokémon and using beans they'll be max EV's in one stat after about 15 hours so ideal for doing overnight for example. Not quick though!

It also uses the best version of the D&D rules which is 2nd edition.
Just remember that Drow items disintegrate in sunlight so while they may seem all powerful they do have drawbacks.

Final Fight Streetwise on the PS2. Take away the Final Fight name and it's actually a lot of fun with many so-bad-it's-awesome moments. I can see how all the swearing, dark gangsta vibes and hookers asking if Kyle (the main character) "wants a shag?" in a posh English accent annoyed Final Fight purists but the game itself...is totally not the trainwreck I was expecting after all the bad stuff I have heard on it over the years.

The only BS so far is the save system which can FOAD as far as I am concerned.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 is more fun than I remember it being. Might even check out 3 when I'm done with it (3 was Japan-only but there's a fan-translation available).

Pokémon Yellow. I cleared the SS Anne and beat Lt. Surge last night before calling it a day. I always struggled with Surge when I was a kid but this time I merely caught a Diglett in the nearby Diglett Cave and OHKO’d his Raichu with Dig.

Main thing I disliked about VCII was the grind-heavy nature of the game and how you had to get the specific awards to level-up/change character classes. It was a good game given the PSP's limitations vs the PS3 though.

VCIII is well worth playing. In fact, I installed CFW on my PSP just so I could run the patched version of the game. Levelling-up was a bit less arduous than in VCII and I liked the plot a lot more.

I'm up to August in VCII - and iirc, about 25 hours in - but haven't felt the need to grind yet. Honestly, in this area it seems pretty good, but I guess that might change later. I really have no idea how much more of the game is left. The first game took me and a friend about 30 hours so I imagine I've made decent progress.

The class upgrade system is a bit odd, granted. I didn't properly understand how it worked until I looked it up the other day (since I had no idea what 'Mrch X' was). Just certain units I used a lot were suddenly able to change class - and fortunately mostly into the ones I wanted.

Yeah it's a good game considering the PSP's limitations. I felt one of the main selling points of the first game was how beautiful it looked. Considering the limitations though, II doesn't look bad and mechanically the game seems in general like a good step up from the first. You can still cheese wins but not as easily, I feel.

And yeah story-wise the game is a bit of a downgrade compared to the first lol. The school side stories aren't interesting a lot of the time but I don't want to ignore them or miss out on the classmate missions. Looking forward to the apparently more serious story in III.

Back on FFXIV. Whoops.

In middle of getting Aisbraena on Louisoix to lv61 BLM, level 59 at the moment, one more Lv.59 dungeon should take me to lv60 then I can use roulettes to get to 61.

I've also done the summer event which was pretty fun if bit easy, it's jump puzzles this year. The prizes are nice too.

Gonna take break once lv61 and resume Yakuza 5, though.

Still playing Yakuza 0, though i have to say i'm disappointed in the lack of a weaponised shovel.

I guess i'll just continue to make do with my kettle instead...

Ratchet & Clank
Having a lot of fun with this. Easy to lose track of time while playing it. There have definitely been some more challenging moments and the lack of checkpoints throughout a level can be annoying (if there's one thing I hate it's re-doing stuff I've already done) but the levels are pretty small so it's not too arduous to go back through them.

Banjo Tooie
Went back to this recently. I want to complete it, just trying to muster the enthusiasm. :slol: Will probably end up going to the final boss and forgetting about 100%-ing it.

Final Fantasy XIII - Lightning Returns
Went back to this as well, after a long break. After learning the controls again (I've given up on trying to follow the story now) I got back into it. I'm about 9 hours in. Again, I want to complete it, but it'll be a long slog. Might just keep chipping away at it. It's not particularly enjoyable to play, which is a shame as I actually quite liked XIII and XIII-2.

I'm on Oni Island in Okami. Can't really remember how much more I have to go. Think it might be coming up to 3/4 done.

It's really strawberry floating good. The characters just don't shut the strawberry float up though. And it's a lot of pointless repeated information. Just let me play the game Issun.

Barring the odd few minutes here and there on a few games, this week I've been focusing on Final Fantasy XIV. I wanted to return to a MMO and it edged out Elder Scrolls Online in my thinking. Unfortunately, whilst I like ESO, it has increasingly focused on loot box purchasing and that has turned me off quite a lot.

But I'm enjoying being back in the world of FF XIV and it has been cool to chat with Seven and Cheeky Devlin about the game.

Pokemon Yellow. I beat Celadon Gym, cleared out the Team Rocket Hideout in Celadon Game Cormer and Saffron City Dojo before calling it quits last night. I can't remember where I'm supposed to go next since everything in Saffron is under lockdown by Team Rocket... the tower in Lavender town perhaps?

Think you get the Silph scope from Celadon which allows you to do the Lavender town section so you can wake up Snorlax letting you explore Fushcia? Not played it in a while mind though!
