Is that the PC version? I've had a few graphical glitches happen while playing, but no crashes - yet.

Yeah. The texture loading bug from the original version has been carried over too apparently. It's actually quite a shonky 'remaster' in that it's not a remaster at all I don't think. There's a few updated textures and some of the models look a tiny bit more detailed but it's quite disappointing really.

The strawberry floating game isn't though. Set to easy it's still an incredibly engaging experience. Probably my 9th or 10th full playthrough I think.

Until I bought the remaster I hadn't played it since it first launched so my memory of any issues with the original is sketchy at best. You're quite right, though, it is very engaging. Quite scary in places too.

*edit* I tend to pick a couple of 'spooky' games to play at Halloween so I might jump back into Bioshock as one of my "fright-night" titles.

Seems like I was quite lucky with Remastered (PC), I don't recall having any crashes. Had one softlock with improper event behaviour but a quick reload sorted that out.

Is funny as I spent a good while trying to decide on whether I'd play through first time on original or Remastered. Was glad I went with the latter in my case but it's still tricky to wholeheartedly recommend as the definitive means given variable experiences like Taf's. Hopefully it operates smoothly here on out for you both!

Also re: difficulty, if I ever go through it again I'm dropping the difficulty down to easy or nomal, good lord the splicer bullet sponges at the end of a hard playthrough D: Think I'd still keep Vita chambers off, or at least aspire to

Every time it crashes it resets all my settings, including difficulty. Even on medium the Splicers in Point Prometheus are strawberry floating ridiculous, with the Leadheads taking a full clip of machine gun ammo.

On easy though it's still real strawberry floating fun. The game has an atmosphere that none of the sequels managed, pairing a real sense of melancholy alongside the ruin and scares. BioShock 2 missed this something rotten, with it's narrative plonking Rapture in an odd 'we need it to look like BS1 but we want to put our own spin on it' situation that felt forced. I've got some real thoughts about BS2 actually that I might have to write up later on.

But BS1 is still strawberry floating great.

Still playing through Sleeping Dogs. According to the stats I'm 80% through and had decided to quickly just finish up the main story, but some of the side missions and other stuff it throws your way is just too good to skip.

This really is the best GTA type game (yes, better than any of the GTAs).

Yes?

Overcooked. One of the best games I've ever played. We're on the final boss and it's been so fun every step of the way!!!

Keep talking and nobody explodes. Fun!!!!!

Night in the Woods. Not that far into it but very interesting so far. My kinda game!

Spiderman. Best AAA I've played in YEARS.

Yeah, apparently the PC version is notoriously...bad

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/0 ... red-fixes/

Finished Point Prometheus...the drop-off in quality is so incredibly noticeable here. The level design is bad, the gameplay is bad, the mission is bad. I'd also forgotten how terrible the Big Daddy vision is. It's the worst implementation of helmet vision ever.

Becoming the big daddy is by far the worst part of B1 bar the end.

It didn't surprise me to learn that the twist was added really late in development as the game has this amazing, genre bending meta-twist and...does nothing with it. The rest of the game is a slow plod towards the end with no tension and no real purpose. Fontaine is a far more effective presence when he remained off-screen, and the whole thing feels pointless.

Apollo Square is a great area though, ruined by the annoying Code Yellow thing, but PP is just bad at everything. Look at the detail poured into Arcadia or Fort Frolic and contrast it with PP's empty, box shaped rooms and dull layout. It's not a believable space, the conjouring of which is one of the game's strengths, but a rote video game level to be played through. The less said about Proving Grounds and Fontaine the better.

Such a shame.

So a pretty slow and boring time for you with videogames at the moment then

I started yet another Skyrim character last night on Switch, with the sole intention of murdering everyone. I've already butchered everyone in Riverwood and have just cleaned up everything immediately surrounding Whiterun. Level 8 now so I'm starting to get confident I could storm the gate of the city itself.

Essential characters are still the worst. I miss New Vegas every day.

I quite often go to a city in Skyrim, save and then just go crazy killing everyone and everything. Much like in GTA where you just go on a spree to see how long it'll be before you get killed/bored. Now I'm tempted to start a new character on Skyrim, feeling a mage with enchanted heavy armour (with decrease in spell cost) so I can just spam spells all the time. I've done this and a true pure mage before and with the stupidly slow magic regen speeds this is certainly more fun, the pure mage just needed a very patient approach to things.

Anyhow instead of Skyrim I'm back on with Octopath, just finished Alfyn's opening chapter off so will be going to get Primrose next (may as well just move round the map in that direction).

I really do think the Apollo Square/Residence district is really well done. Suchong's Clinic and Fontaine's Home for the Poor are some of the creepiest locales in the game, and the fancy housing complex has some of the best side-story payoffs too. Unfortunately it's saddled with a terrible gameplay mechanic which does nothing but make the intensified combat worse, but the level itself is great.

I think the most fun I've had in GTA V is going into Director mode - invincibility and no wanted level - stealing a car off the street, and driving up and down the beach and promenade and seeing how long it takes for the pedestrians to total the car. Either that, or going on a rampage with invincibility and explosive melee.

Dragon Quest XI Echoes of an Elusive Age (PS4 Pro version)

Stunning. Beautiful. A genuine 'video game as art' contender, imo. Charming beyond words. It's the only Dragon Quest game I've ever played or owned, but I'm very impressed (in case you can't already tell). The only thing that lets it down for me is the music. It's just not doing it for me. I want the lush, syrupy sugar bomb score of something like FFXIII here! Instead, we have a boring, tedious score that I just have to switch off (along with the painful English voice-acting).

Other than that - a tremendous JRPG and one I read has been very successful in the West for Square. I can see why.

Yeah i do like those areas, its more that generally by the time i get there im already kinda tired of the game. And those areas just have so many bots, security cameras and enemies theyre a real chore. Also by the time you get there it always jsut hangs over me that ill have to do the Big Daddy section pretty soon which always puts a downer on it. I do love Atlas' apartment too tho. The giant stuffed bear and Mario Lanzas 'oh danny boy' playing when you walk in are great. Even the museum area where you do the Big Daddy section looks cool, but the gameplay is pure gooseberry fool. That final third could have beenw hittled down to an hours worth of gameplay and nothing of value would have been lost

Tom Francis, of Gunpoint and Heat Signature fame, wrote an alternative ending to BS starting from the Ryan encounter, which I always thought was great.

Overcooked is some of the most fun I've had with video games ever ever ever. But the others, I can see how some people wouldn't be into each of them. Ironically I got bored of my Skyrim re-playthrough a couple months ago and haven't had the will to pick it up again yet. But I will. Probably/maybe.

Picked up The Goonies pback for Lego Dimensions from Smyths for £7.50. Worth every penny just to do a truffle shuffle. It's really good as well.
