I saw it’s in offer in Black Friday PS store sale, complete edition for £16. Worth it?

100%. I've had it since I bought my PS4 and I still dip in every few months. It's mindless fun, but fun nevertheless. I paid £12 for the Necromancer expansion and didn't feel ripped off so £16 for the complete version is a steal.

Ninja Gaiden on Xbox One. If you'd asked me a week ago, I probably would've told you that this is in my top 5 games of all time. However, having just played up until the final boss, I had forgotten just how hard it gooseberry fools itself in the last third of the game. Utter strawberry floating attritional bullshit.

Definitely worth £16. I'd happily pay £30 for the Eternal edition.

Game and Watch Gallery 3

Modern games are great on this, they kind of hit that hypnotic gameplay loop that Tetris had spades of. The classic ones are mostly too ancient to appreciate these days. Well worth the 2 quid I paid for it.

+1.

Crazy jealous of anyone who has yet to experience the thrill of their first Treasure Goblin encounter.

Edit: also when you get a build *just right* D3 almost hooks you like a clicker game.

Still playing and utterly loving Dead Cells.

Dead Cells + Best of the Worst binge = Heaven 2018.

Activated my first Boss Cell :datass: After weeks of playing and still being unable to locate additional Moonflower Keys, I decided to check YouTube as I thought What could it possibly spoil?! Turns there are at least 2 more stages I haven't unlocked :slol: :fp: I also want that strawberry floating heavy sentry gun thing *now*.

:o I can just imagine how awesome it must be just battering your way through the early levels of that with a top tier build. Unfortunately, I kept on getting lost in the Clocktower so never made it any further.

How many hours have you put into it so far?

72 hours played so far and I've barely scratched the surface.

Currently dipping in and out of the Item World to level up my characters and gear.

I'm almost certain there's one permutation of the Clock Tower which is borked and so doesn't have an exit. I mean, what are the chances that *both of us* failed to spot the exit on that one stage?! :slol: (I think I messed up by failing to do something as obvious as not using the teleport rock outside one of the blue locked doors - You know, the one where you teleport in amongst mobs and fight your way down to the other side of the locked door and step on the floor plate to activate it.)

How many hours...? Cripes. Too many?  Conservative guess is that I've been playing it for a few hours a day since I bought it at the end of August.

Get back on it! Oh and, do you know how to "break" the game's rogue-lite element? :shifty:

I've been testing all my 4K games now that I've upgraded to a 4K TV. Jesus, the difference.

Apart from pretty much all of them looking super sharp, some of the games really stand out. Some highlights:

Halo 1 and 2 Anniversary look lush AF, I mean, the art style and look still hold up. Playing the Silent Cartographer in 4K with HDR is eye bleedingly gorgeous and all locked at 60fps.

Sea of Thieves was an obvious choice, it's sumptuous, and although hard to describe, the increased fidelity makes the world more solid or something.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is jaw dropping, truly something to behold.

Red Dead Redemption 1 was a massive surprise to me, how on earth have they managed to get this game running at that resolution, it looks better than many X1 games.

PUBG looks stunning, albeit with a weird 'grain' lighting effect on interiors and some aliasing issues, apart from the 30fps and potato buildings, it looks like a top end PC version.

Final Fantasy XIII, wow, running out of superlatives, but this is basically a remaster, it's that good.

Notable mentions go to The Witcher 3, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 4 and AC Origins. All of those look gorgeous but weren't as eye popping as others.

It's something of a transformative experience tbh, Not only is it the increase in fidelity but the screen size has had a boost so I'm quite taken aback.

Destiny 2 Forsaken still.

Did strawberry float all over the weekend so spent an awful lot of time on this. First thing I did was finish the expansion campaign which, yes, is the best story Destiny's ever told. That's not saying much though. So much obvious exposition is absent (where did Uldren become corrupted, how did he create the Scorn, what the strawberry float was that thing at the end) which I'm sure is in the supplementary materials but it strawberry floating shouldn't be. Bungie still need to fix the way this game spins its narratives as it remains broken as of now.

I then dove into Iron Banner and Gambit which, I was amazed to say, I strawberry floating loved. I knew I loved Gambit but it was the IB that I spent most time with. I was expecting a poorly balanced, 'one shot kill from a lvl 600' fest but it was, most of the time, pretty even. There were a few matches where our team destroyed the other, or vice versa, but they passed so quickly it was barely more than a slight annoyance. The bounty system made me alter the way I would normally play which was fun, and the Power Play mechanic really brings something new to the usual Capture the Point system.

All of this is to say I now understand what people, including Parksey, were saying when they said this is the best Destiny's ever been. Bungie have nailed that 'just one more mission' feeling of constant progression and reward (even if 4 of my IB bounties gave me the same pair of strawberry floating gloves). Light progression does still feel a little too random, but there are enough daily and weekly Powerful Gear bounties to keep me coming back for a while.

Onrush

Picked this up for £7.99 from Argos at the weekend and I've been playing through it for most of Sunday and I must admit it's an absolute blast, it's a great new take on arcade racing and the various different modes really do work. Single player is a bit small for a £50 game, but for the price I paid it's a bargain. Shame the game flopped, probably if it was a £15 ps store game that launched on PS Plus like Rocket League then maybe it could've been a success.

Regarding your Destiny story queries, I think some of it is dealt in-game but again, they've stuck some of the finer details behind a "lore gate" that means you have to dig about to get it. Most of these times these are text dumps - I really wish they could blend them in to the game a bit better. I don't want to read a game's story, which is annoying as the game's universe is pretty decent, and Frosaken's story and lore is interesting and quite compelling.

I basically got told a fair bit of this by my friends who dig all the lore and read up on it, though I did pick some of it up myself by virtue of playing all the various DLCs and stuff.

I'll spoiler it as it will reveal the Raid boss if you're wanting to go in blind. Also this almost certainly going to sound as bad as that fanfic-style example you posted a while back. I maintain the story is good, just badly presented through lore drops like this one I'm going to write:

So Oryx was the leader of the Taken back in D1 right? Now people reckon they are being lead by his sister, Savathun who I think is a hive wizard God. This has been hinted at in the base game (there was a strike called Savathun's Song) and she's been name dropped a fair bit. As Bungie tend to do this quite far in advance of what we play, most reckon she's the Bog Bad of next September's big expansion or D3.

Soooooo.... (strawberry floating hell even I'm exasperated as I write this)

You know of the Ahamkara? These are, I think, an ancient race of massive beasts, dragon-y maybe, and quote a lot of exotics carry their name as they are made out of their bones.

Well the Queen possess(ed) perhaps the only remaining living one (strawberry floated if I know, I got told all this)and its name is Riven. Ahamkara apparently speak in a very distinctive way, saying "O (something) mine" which made my friends very excited when they first heard the Queen utter this to Uldren in Forsaken. This made them twig some gooseberry fool was, indeed, very "up".

Soooooo

Riven was somehow taken by Oryx. Again, I don't know how, maybe it's something to do with the Queen being presumed dead after The Taken King when she attacked the Dreadnaught.

Riven is now Taken and has been manipulating Uldren. The Queen he see is just an apparation compelling Jim to do things. Naughty things. That boss in the "last" mission is just a Servitor Riven has taken in order to talk to you, I think. Can't remember what it says, but it's called "The Voice of Riven".

Savathun is now in charge of the taken and is, in turn, manipulating Riven.

Riven is the boss of the Last Wish Raid. Beating that (indeed, the first team clearing that for the first time) started to bring about some interesting changes to the Dreaming City.

As I said, this story's main threads are actually quite interesting and it's clear Bungie have worked on it and planned it out for a while. There are some big callbaccks to stuff from The Taken King so they've had this mapped out for a bit (just like there were callbacks to the Red Legion in TTK).

Unfortunately it's all scattered across lore pieces, text dumps and other stuff. Some like this - the hardcore community love piecing it all together and speculating - but I feel like they could just make it a little obtuse for others. I like the story (and it's still continuing as you might find out when you progress further) but their approach doesn't let it shine as much as it could.

Fortunately Forsaken gets by due to the much simpler revenge plot, but it could have been better had "the Big Bad" carried a bit more weigh for people who weren't so engrossed in the Lore. I've only done the first Raid encounter so maybe you get more exposition there.

It was the same with Leviathan, which had a good backstory of the Emperor being usurped by Ghaul and possibly being on your side, but this was again tucked away in lore on the raid weapons.

I understand why they are part of the appeal of getting all the raid stuff, mind, and Leviathan was simpler to understand what was going on just by playing the Raid, but I can see why players get confused.

I did read that the Raid boss was the real boss of the expansion, which is a bit annoying given I might never see it. I still need to find a group/clan really.

Also, I don't know why I did this to myself but over the past few days I've gone through the entirety of the Destiny 1 grimoire online. Half the stuff there is interesting and well written, and half is deliberately obfuscating nonsense. The best stuff was probably the prequel stories talking about humanity after the collapse but before the city, which were presented in a sort of swords and sorcery meets the Wild West way and was really interesting. The worst was pretty much anything to do with the Darkness which serve only to make it incredibly apparent Bungie have/had no idea what it actually is (which would explain its total absence from D2, black pyramid ships aside).

I also went back to all the rumours of the original story as created by Joe Staten, that was to culminate in the reveal that the Traveller was the source of humanity's downfall, and was in fact a multi-dimensional Vex construct designed to fool worlds into a sense of security before letting the Vex roll in. The Speaker was the main antagonist, a crook who lied about the Traveller's origins to further his own power. Osiris was to be the player guide and Rasputin, in Exo form, was to be a much larger presence. The Black Garden was originally set inside the Traveller itself too. The Darkness was simply a name coined by the Speaker to describe the collection of races attempting to destroy the Traveller. Also:

- The Dreadnaught was originally in the base game from the start
- Each race (human, Exo, Awoken) would have had a unique intro. The one that made it into the game was the Exo version.
- Uldren was a mysterious character known only as The Crow
- The model for the Exo Stranger was originally the model for Osiris' assistant.
- The concept art of the bloody Exo (used for the grimoire's Ghost Fragment: Exo stories) was Rasputin in Exo form

It's still pretty bad but at least it's more consisted than the mess of lore the series has now.

Yeah the original Destiny was a mess, because it got chopped and changed several times. Writers came and left, and a lot of stuff was decided on quite late, with other things relegated to the Grimoire.

I'm not sure Bungie will ever be able to come up with something satisfying enough for "the Darkness" now. It's the same problem Lost had when trying to come up with a pay-off.

Destiny's more satisfying stories have been "side plots" things with a clearly defined villian - Oryx's story was clear and easy enough to understand. The stuff at the end of Forsaken is not as clear, but is constant and mapped out.

The Darkness just sounds like a cod term for a mysterious enemy that's TBD. Though recently [inlinespoiler]several characters have made comments on it not being what we think or that the traveller shouldn't be trusted and the humans would be wise to abandon it[inlinespoiler].

I do feel like the main plot might end up being a bit of a whimper, but the side stories of Oryx, Savathun, the raid boss etc are decent enough, they should just be portrayed in a more compelling way to the less intensive player.

Basically, anywhere that has a flying strawberry floating ghost fish. Who the hell playtested that gooseberry fool and decided it was a good idea - it completely wrecks the whole dynamic range of the fighting mechanics. I've done the gates of hell bit, with the tentacle boss and ice mole thing, followed by the Fiend King(?), but that last fight has robbed me of all my spirit elixirs and half of my health. The thing is, whilst there's a save point after this bit, there's no shop from which to re-stock on items and I'm straight into another sequence of boss battles. To stand a chance of progressing, I need to backtrack through a load of the aforementioned flying strawberry floating ghost fish which, at this stage of the game and with so little health, are effectively insta-death. 'Don't let them kill you!', I hear you cry. Well, here's the problem - I need to backtrack down the imperial palace tower but the camera is fixed for showing you the route forward when ascending the tower, so I can't see what's coming, or more significantly when. For the life of me, I can't begin to wonder how I managed to complete this game originally.
