Now I seem to have been given a free upgrade to the new version so I thought I’d give it another go. I’ve got further than I got last time so I think I’ll stick with it although I may wait for the PS4 release as I don’t like playing it with a laptop’s touch pad.

I don’t really use Steam much anymore so I have to ask, is getting free upgrades when a newer version of a game comes out a common thing?
Why not just use your PS4 controller with your laptop? Plug it in with a USB cable as Steam now supports it.

Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold. More dungeon crawling/map making goodness. Doesn't seem to deviate too greatly from 4 and Untold, although there are some improvements, some game systems seem to be more fleshed out/interesting in this.

So far, so good.

I would never have though if that... I own a wired 360 controller already. Will it work with a game made to play with a mouse though?

Currently playing The Evil Within 2 and it’s excellent. I love the fact they’re ripping off Silent Hill this time and enjoying the more open world gameplay. Although it does leave me longing for a Silent Hill remake ....

It will come down to whether the game allows a controller to be used. Unfortunately it won't work with a controller just because you've plugged one in.

I had the same experience - aside from a few bugs, it put as many smiles on my face as Odyssey did.

Yep, I've had a few issues with the sound cutting out-either the music stopping or a weird echo like effect coming in. The soundtrack adds so much I'm resetting it and going again!

Yup, had those and a few system crashes. Disappointing they still haven't patched it.

Having managed to bag more time than usual off from work this Christmas I've been quite a busy gamer.

Completed the CoD WWII campaign.

Completed a second play through of OneChanBara Z2 Chaos.

Started Bloodborne. Gotten as far as killing Cleric Beast.

WWE 2K18 also came my way in a surprise Christmas present. Not without niggles, but good fun nonetheless.

PCars 2 still providing my racing kicks.

Bit of 2d fighting in the form of Nitroplus Blasterz.

Crysis 3. Undecided about this as yet. Beautiful looking game (better than many of today's newer titles and one that my rig needs some options toned down to run efficiently), but the pace needs to step up a little. Lots of talky cut scenes break the flow of combat.

Just started The Evil Within 2 yesterday. Not very far into it but so far quite disappointed. Graphically it seems quite improved compared to the original (although not sure if that is due to it just being better or that I'm playing this on the PC and played the original on the PS4). Hopefully this will become more interesting, but so far the setting of the original seemed better.

All Walls Must Fall:

Well it's a turn based tactical game with time travel set entirely in gay nightclubs in a futuristic Berlin where the fall never fell. Looks a bit ugly but it has a gimmick where after combat ends you hit a button and it plays out as if it happened in real time like Superhot.
Also there's a fist that punches through walls.

Steep DLC:

I love Steep, no other winter sports game has come close to capturing the fun of it's free roam; the good DLC adds basejumping (fun but obviously limited to where you can jump), parachute skiing (really fun and fast) and rocket wings (kinda breaks the feel of the game but makes travelling a lot easier) whilst the weaker of the two just adds sleds and some gimmicky races which are fun but short lived in appeal.

I do want to play the olympic dlc but asking almost full price for it is silly for what is a fairly niche game.

Hackmud:

I love this so much, it's a mmo (well a MUD really) played out entirely via typing out javascript commands for scripts that players can even create themselves. I don't have the first clue about scripting/programming but the 4 hour tutorial and the beginner puzzles once you get out into the actual mmo world were more than worth the price for me, any fun I have after that (probably from being bullied by competent players) will be a bonus.

Darkest Dungeon:

It was fantastic in early access and then I never actually played much after launch, the DLC adds even more fun challenge but it's balanced out by a class that is quite frankly broken; probably my favourite dungeon crawler even over stuff like the Etrian games.

I've just started playing Fez (PC). I like it so far, although it seems very...sprawling and confusing to navigate. Whether that's by design (I suspect it is) or not I get the impression it's going to be one of those 'where the strawberry float do I go now' games. Still, I like it so far, and will see how it goes.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

Some clunkyness aside I'm enjoying this.

The last 3 evenings I’ve been playing Hob on PS4. I picked it up in the US Store sale after remembering it got favourable reviews from a few sites.
It’s really good. Reminds me at times of LTTP.
It’s big too; I thought I’d be finished at around 10 hours but the map keeps opening up and there’s loads of subterranean areas too. Lots of upgrades and secrets yet to discover.
Can’t wait to get another couple of hours in later tonight.

I’ve also revisited Steep after getting the season pass cheap in UK Store sale. Steep
A couple of the wingsuit challenges though...Jesus. I don’t think I’ll ever have the skills to Gold ‘em.

Super Mario Land 2 on Gameboy. I almost had this beat but ended up with a game over on the last level. When you load your save game all the bosses are back and I couldn’t be bothered to fight them all again. I’ll probs give it another go again tomorrow.

Decided to give Yakuza 5 a small break (I've put in 40 more hours past week, on Finalie chapter at 156hrs) to start Jak 2 yesterday.

Now I know why some people gave up on it. It's very unforgiving and not in very good way. Small to lack of checkpoints, poor camera and lack of decent aim option made it more frustrating than fun - and on top of that the home hub is dull as strawberry float, vehicles drive like ass (can't imagine what it's like on Vita) and most of all: Why no subtitles for dialogue in game. strawberry float sake.

That being said it's fun, at least. But I don't think I want to try 100% it because there seems be no way of tracking of stuff you've missed and due to lack of checkpoints I'm not going to bother.

Hoping Jak 3 will be better for me...

I'm on the third Stratum in Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold. I'm liking it better than the first untold definitely.

I'm strangely addicted to the recipe/restaurant sidequest. They could flesh this out in future games and it would be awesome.

Letter Quest Unlimited (Switch). I needed something like this after becoming a little jaded with videogaming. Simple, slick and addictive! It's Scrabble RPG and great fun.

Fallout 3 (Xbox 360). I'm back on the journey after a short break over the new year period and I'm tackling The Wasteland Survival Guide for Moira.

Skyrim (PC).

Wasn't happy with the performance levels in busy areas with some of the mods installed so I've been stripping back a few of the more demanding mods, (like Insane Grasses). Performance is now much better. Just been approached by the Dark Brotherhood, but have decided to finish the main quest line first.

Fallout: New Vegas (PC)

Just modding at the moment.

PGR 4 (Xbox 360).

Still an amazing arcade-esq racing game.
