Ufouria on NES. I originally started playing this on the Wii years ago but never got around to finishing it. I'm not sure how far through I am but thus far I'm enjoying it. I suppose the best way to describe it is "Metroidvania before Metroidvania".

As I understand it this was a very late release in the western lifespan of the NES and as such was largely ignored despite being considered one of the best games on the system.

Resident Evil 4 - Completed

Doom - Had a few more goes at the Cyberdemon and wasn't really getting close to killing him so changed the difficulty to the easiest one and took care of him first time.

FIFA 17 - Real rollercoaster on this. Form picked up so I was now winning, drawing, winning, drawing but I'd left myself too much to do so couldn't prevent relegation from Division 2. Won my first 5 games in Division 3 so was well on course for promotion. Last 5 games was DLDDW meaning I got promoted as Champions and have now only lost one in about 16 games.

Star Wars BF - Think I only need to win one more game of Infiltration to get the achievement. Really enjoying this mode though so rather than go back to Walker Assault once I've got the achievement think I will on carrying on playing it to get the number of kills as Jyn and Krennic needed for the Hutt Contracts. Think it's more authentic playing them on Scarif rather than the other historic locations. Still taking a while to get the Impact Grenade kills needed to unlock the Sonic Imploder.

So I bought Final Fantasy Tactics (again) in the recent sale. Played that for a bit and then remembered that Tactics Ogre on PSP was like FFT but more refined. So now I've started playing that again and by god it's a brilliant game.

Also working through Tumble on PSVR, had a blast with the kids playing Playroom VR (that cowboy game is great) and a bit of Eagle Flight. Probably going to buy Tethered at some point with it being on sale.

Torment: Tides of Numanera.

10 years ago I played two thirds of Planescape: Torment before the laptop I was using juddered its diodes loose and died. I grabbed my photos and writing from the abandoned hard-drive, but never retrieved my save games, and despite having never touched it since P:T remains one of my favourite games. Understandably then I was a little nervous about the so-called sequel; I needn't have been. I'm about 10 hours into Torment: Tides and its already floored me.

After trying and failing to get into Pillars of Eternity at least 4 times I wondered whether I had tired of Infinity Engine-esque RPGs. Whether my youthful eyes had been more willing to accept the detached viewpoint and reams of text than the weathered sockets that replaced them. I saw all the praise it was getting and assumed this was the case. T:ToN proves it isn't. This is a game that, although dense and confusing at first, has completely sucked me into its world unlike any game for a long while.

It sticks closely to the tenets of its father (uncle?) namely bizarre worldbuilding, unique language, deep characters and exceptional writing. Every conversation so far has oozed more personality and emotion than Dragon Age Inquisition or Fallout 4 did in their entire campaigns. Thematic links tie everything together, and interesting spins on alignment and skill-check systems make it mechanically satisfying too.

I'm loving it.

Final Fantasy XIV again x_x;

I have new boyfriend and his main is on another server so I rolled a character there and I'm enjoying it all over again. I will have to return to Dragon Quest Builders though, that game's brilliant.

I'm thinking of getting it but I'm a bit worried that the combat will be too fast paced for my feeble hands, can you pause fights to issue commands a-la Dragon Age?

Painkiller
I'm in Chapter 4 now, and it's starting to get tricky; you can very quickly become overwhelmed with high-powered enemies, lack of ammo, and small enclosed environments. Still good fun though, although a few more weapons would be nice.

Mario Kart: Double Dash
I never really played this on the Gamecube, so I'm playing through it on Dolphin now. It's okay. The dual-character mechanic doesn't really do anything for me, and the cheating AI and rubberbanding are as annoying as ever, but they're par for the course with Mario Kart games. No real standout tracks, and probably the worst Mario Kart I've played, but that's not to say it's a bad game.

Freelancer
Not as grabbed by this as I hoped I would be. Getting anywhere feels like a real slog, missions aren't that interesting so far, and it feels like a bit of a chore to play. I'll give it another hour or two, but so far not too impressed sadly.

Ok, so

1) I've had about 4 fights in my 15 hours
2) It's all turn based.

Do not let the idea of combat put you off. This is not a combat heavy game if you don't want it to be.

Was just saying to someone the other day that Breath of the Wild was basically Skyrim/Fallout/Witcher but better because all the mechanics are designed by Nintendo.

Homefront: The Revolution is a fine, fine game. Much-maligned on release back in 2016 (and by all accounts quite rightly) it seems the developer has not stopped patching and improving the experience since. DLC has been a steady thing and now the game is all but completely fixed and several new, much more positive 're-reviews' are starting to appear on YT giving the game a fair hearing second time around.

I picked up the digital download PS4 version in the sale at a ridiculously low price (which included the Season Pass and all DLC expansions) and, not really knowing what to expect from the game, I plunged in.

It's fantastic-looking game. That needs to be stated, upfront and clearly. The game looks amazing. This is Crytek doing its stuff and the world the devs have shaped (a bombed-out post-invasion Philadelphia) is very easy on the eye. Fantastic use of light and shadow, dynamic weather and day-to-night all combine to produce a mesmerising game world. If you're a PS4Pro owner you're in luck - the devs have patched the game specifically to take advantage of the Pro's added horsepower (and I can confirm it looks great).

And then there's the open-world loot collecting - I didn't expect this. You can basically just head off and do your own thing in each of the game's maps - main plot points can wait until you're good and ready to do them. Random side quests abound.

Story-wise, it's the usual daft nonsense. China would have been a far more credible aggressor, but I guess the publisher didn't fancy upsetting such a potentially huge market, so keraaazy North Korea it was. Characterisation and plot are there in name only and are best disregarded. At heart, this is a great semi-open world looters' paradise and it should be played as such. AI Enemies are tough (even on Easy) and will quickly swarm a careless player. Stealth is a viable option - you can snipe, melee and lure your enemies - or you can take your chances machine-gunning your way into enemy checkpoints and bases. Helpfully, you can recruit NPC Resistance Fighters to go along with you on your suicide missions.

Fantastic value (in the sale) and a game I'll happily take my time with, exploring, occasionally sniping the enemy, upgrading my guns, doing the odd plot mission and generally just taking in the glorious sights.

Now the game is just about fixed and can be had for a pittance, I'd recommend it to anyone with a love for dystopian, open world(ish) loot-a-thons. Comparable to games like The Division and Dying Light in tone and feel.

Cal, there are thousands hundreds dozens a few two of us :toot: . I picked it up at launch but have still only played a bit of it. But, what I did play if it, I thought it was great. The upcoming expansion moves the action outside of the city and it looks terrific.

Are you sure that the season pass was included, Cal? I want to get the pass but I've never seen it in a sale.

Edit: Ah! I guess you bought the ultimate edition or whatever it's called?

I think that was it - all I know is I got everything and all the expansions are ready to be played on the front menu (in total - a 62GB download!). It was such great value - really proves the point about waiting until a game has been fully patched and received all its extra content before buying into it. The fact the devs have been incredibly hard-working to patch the game into coherence is a major plus.

It's a really great game despite the rubbish combat. I just love building a character and seeing differences in my playthroughs. I went for a science/speech/laser/melee build this time, and it's really fun.

The sheer amount of random shite that happens in it is awesome.

Man I'm going to have to give this a go sometime, if I can get SoTC running at 60fps I'll play it via emu as opposed to the HD collection. I just hope my i5 6600 is up to the task, I understand these kinds of emulators are CPU dependent.

I honestly dont know how good an i5 6600 is so i cant help you there, i have an i7 4770k, and i can get a really good framerate in SOTC. dont get me wrong, its not perfect, colossus 14 i think (the small kinda dog sized one) actually caused more frame drops than any large colossus. I will occasionally go down to 30fps or so. But overall the framerate is great, and the image quality and anti aliasing is better than anything you can get in the HD collection

I've had mixed results with Dolphin with stuttering and such, though that might be down to settings/shader caching/game compatibility/etc. Unfortunately it's not a CPU I can overclock so I can't get too ambitious with it.

I was happy with Ico on the HD collection as it was 1080p, but SotC being 900p makes me keen to try it on PCSX2. It is astounding how good the image quality can be in these emulators!
