Batman: Arkham VR. It doesn't seem very long, it costs £15 and I need a £350 headset. Against that, I'm strawberry floating Batman. Worth every penny.

I really don't want to play anything else right now. Not had so much pure enjoyment in a game since MGS5.

Good man, you played DS3?

I'm going to get the GOTY edition when it's out. I was put off from the DS stuff due to the infamous difficulty but the experience of bloodborne has got me into the genre and I can't wait to see how DS3 compares to Bloodborne.

I've just started Bloodborne, too. I've had it installed for months now but - since I'm trying to buy fewer games this year - I've headed back to games I've initially shelved. My goodness, it's hard, though. I can see the appeal but I've reached a bit of a dead end already. Father Gascoigne is too punishing for me to learn an effective approach and that big warewolf thing on the main bridge can do one. I may grind up a few more levels but if I don't make headway against either of these two soon, I think it may be getting shelved again!

I stopped at father Gascoigne for a year. Then picked it back up. Now I'm level 162 I think. Finished it once and currently on new game plus. Keep going. It's not really about your power levels it's more about the skills you develop. YouTube has a lot of guides for taking him out. Personally I used the music box and then used the environment and my axe extended. That really allowed me to get some cheap hits in.

I've only grinded a couple of times. It does work when you need to get an edge.

If you can get good at the gun parry system that helps too. I've nog bothers much with it but I am getting into it now as I've been up against some bosses who are just evil and really need to be parried.

My biggest tip is don't give up. It's sooooo good and in my opinion keeps getting better. Also make sure you have a look at some online tips and guides for areas. As there is so much hidden stuff and weapons.

I got the GOTY version and the dlc is equal and in some cases better than the main game.

Also the two werewolves on the bridge. Kill the giant and the crows. Run along kill a guy by himself.

Now get the werewolves to follow you down to where the guy was. The stairway behind him. Kill the guys in there and use an extended weapon to batter the werewolves as they can't get in but will stay at the door and get slapped silly by you.

Ds3 takes the best of bloodborne and adapts it to their game. Very similar. So if you like bb you'll love ds3.. bb was my game of 2015. And ds3 was goty 2016

Thanks for the advice. Did the werewolves on the bridge using this approach! Still can't beat Father Gascoigne. I did manage to beat the Celric Beast and was super excited to see some more of Yharnam only to be rewarded with a dead end!

It looks like it's Gascoigne next then... I'll take you advice and watch a few guides first but I'm a little frustrated that the game seems to offer no clear tells to defeat the bosses. It seems like there is a knack but they're quite difficult to find on your own. It's almost as if the designers know they've made a tricky game and, rather than building-in subtle tells or building-up a player's skill gradually, they just dumb difficulty spikes and seemingly impossible bosses and say, 'Hey - there's the Internet out there - go look for guides if you want a chance to beat our game! No way we're going to explain our systems to you.'

I like the game and - as I said - I can see why people love it - it's just quite hard going! I look to Ninja Gaiden as a game that was hard but well designed and mastering was gradual and could be done without resorting to how to videos.

Crystalis on NES. A decent action RPG thus far however it is very unforgiving, enemies drain your health in no time flat. Interesting side note, it's from SNK who weren't exactly known for making RPGs.

Alien Isolation. Had this for months but pretty much have to force myself to play it.

3 missions in, not sure this is how I want to spend my time. Also, it's 18 missions long?! Jesus

Have somehow also got back into Destiny, climbing to light level 400.

Always wanted to play this, looks so damn charming. From the way you describe its difficulty though I may be somewhat liberal with save state use <_<

It is too long but I would suggest sticking with it a bit longer, the high points (of which there are many) are incredible. Cowering under tables while the xenomorph brushes right past you :dread:

Painkiller
I'm sure I've completed this before, but I can barely remember any of it. Still, great fun.

Hotline Miami
I've gone back to this and given it another go. It's growing on me. The soundtrack is brilliant.

Freelancer
I've been wanting to play this for years, but it's not on Steam, GOG, etc. Finally managed to track a copy down, and I'm enjoying it. Flight and combat on the mouse feels good, although using the RMB to fire has suddenly stopped working a few missions in, and I don't know why/how to reactivate it. :slol: Firing using the keyboard isn't quite the same.

When I play older RPGs particularly on 8 bit systems I often use Game Genie codes to level up faster. That's what I did in Crystalis, now I'm at a higher level I'm having a better time with it.

I have given up on Crystalis for the time being as I keep getting lost in the increasingly large and samey looking dungeons so I'm currently playing a couple of Amiga games I had on Atari ST as a kid namely Hero Quest and Rick Dangerous.

Hero Quest is a pretty faithful translation of the original D&D lite board game, I played it to death as a kid but never really progressed as I didn't understand how the save system worked. Turns out it was actually pretty simple but there's save states now anyway so it's largely irrelevant.

Rick Dangerous is another game I had as a kid, played the hell out of but never got anywhere in on account of it being really effing hard but I've managed to finish the first 2 levels now. There's so much trial and error here due to booby traps springing up everywhere that the game is more memory test than platformer. Seeing as how it's by Core Design I wonder if any of the devs went on to work on the Tomb Raider series as the traps and general theme of the game give off a similar vibe to me. I sure I remember the ST version having a level select but that doesn't seem to be the case on Amiga.

I'm back into The Elder Scrolls Online on PS4 and... well... it's all rather embarrassing, really   .

Really enjoying it and I'm setting up my house, though :toot: .

Seven! You're back in GR :toot: .

And playing something outside of FF XIV :o . I guess you're taking a mini break ahead of Stormblood arriving? I know I always say that I'm gonna get back into FF XIV... but I struggle to play that and ESO simultaneously.

Superfrog on Amiga. As an ST owner I feel I missed out on Team 17's output from that era. I played a little of this at a friends house years ago but not a lot. I'm near the end now and it's been okay, probably about as close to a Mario or a Sonic game as you'd likely have got on a computer back then but it just doesn't have quite the level of polish you'd see in a Japanese developed console game.

As a kid I put up with that whole up to jump and one fire button nonsense because I didn't really know any better but it's really a less than ideal setup for a game like this. Also I don't know if this is just a problem with the emulator or maybe a bad dump of the game but it has a tendency to crash when it tries to load the bonus level.
