It's always great to hear that more people are enjoying Mad Max! It's one of my all-time favourite single-player games and I will definitely give it another play-through in the future. Enjoy the action!

Just finished third game of Monster Prom(PC) and it's really fun game; great laughs to have with bizarre outcomes (plus, it features cute werewolf :eyes: ) - surprisingly lot of depth too.

Finding it hard lately to really get into a game, tried playing a few but nothing seems to be holding my interest for long.

Anyone else find they have this at times?

Just started God of War. Getting a bit depressed by Kratos but it’s pretty looking and fun to play.

Probably sacrilege to say but binned off the SoTC remaster....played it back in the day but as impressive as the update is those controls are just an exercise in teeth gnashing frustration.

Have Hitman GoTY to play as well. Looks like there is an ocean of content and gameplay there so should keep me going for the foreseeable future.

Absolutely. It’s a weird thing as I get phases where it is like the thought of playing games and reading about them is actually far more preferable to the reality of playing them. I dunno but sometimes I think it’s almost like a subconscious feeling of guilt in wasting time but strangely I never get this watching films, TV or reading etc

Very much this, I sometimes browse GR and Resterera for ages reading up on games and opinions but then when it comes to it I struggle to fully immense myself into a game.

I think I'm generally going off of games. I sometimes wonder if I'm playing them because that is what I've always done. Very few games do I play where I'm actually having fun, they mainly just annoy me with every game having something that I find frustrating.

Finished my run of Gold with just Feraligatr (plus HM ones of course), finished on level 80 in about 15 hours (so not exactly quick), I'll probably leave it a bit before doing the same with Typhlosion and Meganium. Will probably jump back into Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or Zelda for a bit now.

I’ve enjoyed some games over the past year but the ones I have enjoyed tend to be the shorter, less story driven experiences. When I hear about a game having a deep, 30 hour+ story it puts me off.

Oh boy, yes. I definitely spend more time browsing and reading about games than playing them, although I'm in a phase where I feel that I want to play stuff at the moment. Perhaps you could try just selecting a small number of titles and focus on them, Milner? Personally I find that I never really get into a game if I'm juggling more than a couple.

A few hours into Transistor. I wish there was something more substantial with this. It is fairly linear, combat is good, but there's little else in terms of gameplay.

It's still a very good game, just not something that I feel is worthy of the hype so far.

Just finished the first chapter of Yakuza 0 and it's utter bollocks. Is the whole game just a series of exposition-heavy cutscenes sporadically interspersed with a few bits of sub-standard combat?

True enough. I’m sure it’s probably been said before but we really are spoilt for riches nowadays...especially if you are lucky enough to have a good disposable income (or a credit card). Back in the day it felt that a single game would be rinsed and rinsed over months on end and you got to know it inside out...just seems that nowadays once you get stuck or disillusioned in one bit of a game it’s all too easy to bin it off and move on to the next one in the pile, or even just research and read up online about what game you are going to buy to add to the pile.

Just to add, at least for me I think part of the problem is not necessarily having the time to commit to long sessions. The problem then with story games is that if I haven’t touched it for a few days I’ve totally forgot what’s going on and feel compelled just to restart all over. I think certain games like Hitman etc that tend to elevate mechanics over story etc are better if you are time poor and struggling to get into narrative fpdtiven titles.

It isn't just that, I feel that having a backlog puts pressure on you to get through the current game quickly rather than just enjoying the current game. This is why I'm trying to get to a point where I have just one game in my backlog. Doing quite well so far and have only purchased one game this year but completed 7.

I tend to try to stick to 1 game at a time and focus on it, earlier this year I was doing ok and playing lots of indies on Switch but maybe I’ve reached a point where I’m a bit burned out.

I have enjoyed joining in GR’s Mario Kart, Rocket League and Splatoon 2 nights so I think I will stick with them for now and see how things go. I am also playing some rogue like games (Death Road to Canada, Enter the Gungeon) they are pretty good as they are run based so you can attempt a run, see how far you get and then put it down again and have another go sometime later.

E3 usually ignites my gaming passion so perhaps this year will do the same.

Yes, this is another good point, I’ll play a game but then look at another and think “I would like to play that” then I find myself trying to rush through stuff rather than take time and enjoy it at a leisurely pace

Good point. Funny thing is that I (and probably many others) live my whole bloody life like that so I suppose my gaming habits are but a reflection of the big picture. I’m a runner and quite recently realised that whenever I ran I was always a mile a head of myself in my head...almost like picturing the run over whilst it was still happening. This created quite a lot of stress and tension and now I specifically try and be more mindful when running, taking in my surrounding etc. Maybe off on a tangent a touch but I think maybe like you highlighted it’s easy to get like this with games...just wanting to move forward and get onto the next thing.

Whoah! That's pretty deep, box, but... perfectly true. In gaming terms, last week I got frustrated with Pro Evo Soccer because the results weren't going my way. After having a bit of a strop, I changed my thinking and focussed on enjoying the gameplay and the moments in the match. It has worked wonders - now I don't really care about the outcome and just have fun along the way.

Oh, and welcome to GRcade - the fluffiest best strangest oddest most games + stuff place on the web :toot: .

It’s exactly why I ditched COD about 5 years ago. I became so goddam obsessed with my KD ratio that it was driving me potty. I wasn’t even a good player so it never even mattered but the whole game revolved around that bloody ratio and nothing else.
