There's some annoying map designs when you go up Tal Tal Heights. Still a great game, mind you.

The one with multiple floors broke me on first playthrough :P

The dungeon with the towers you break with the ball? Wasn't too bad that one, though I was absolutely stuck on Dungeon 8 for ages, couldn't find the crystal switch. But I have now beat the game, it was still pretty great despite being a little bit flawed. It is a very charming game.

Started Fire Emblem Fates Conquest. I'm not playing this on classic. No goddamn way.

Been playing "The Deadly Tower of Monsters" on the PC (which I bought as part of a recent bundle for 80p) only to find that this has actually been given away as part of PSN+ :fp:

I've now switched to the PS4 version.

Yes?

Fire Emblem Fates Conquest. I have the same feeling with this game that I had with the Birthright version. It just feels incredibly off. Like none of the characters are interesting and the story is absolutely nonsensical and banal. It's incredibly weird.

Gameplay is still good and I'm liking the extra challenge and variation to the missions.

Having recently finished the last batch of games I was playing (Doom/Dead Rising/Resi 4) I've now moved on to:

Bioshock
This will be my third play through. I will always remember this game for different reasons. This was the first game I played on my new 360 after trading in a load of Xbox/PS2 stuff. (I think the 360 came with Blue Dragon and Forza but I weren't interested in them so traded them for this). One Saturday night after going out with the GFs family for dinner I stayed up till about 2am to finish this. Don't think I'd planned on staying up that late but once the twist was revealed thought I must be near the end so wanted to see it through. I planned on playing through again but this time harvesting the sisters but that night I didn't lock the living room window (it was closed completely over) and someone climbed in a robbed my new 360 that I'd only had for a couple of weeks, mobile, watch and the GFs car! Luckily the car was left just round the corner so she got that back. Thankfully I was moving house a couple of weeks later which was a relief but it meant trading in all my GC collection to get another 360. I think by this time Halo 3 had just come out so I got that. I wasn't going to buy another physical copy but when you could start downloading games I got this for nostalgia reasons to play through again. The gunplay is not it strongest point, having just played Halo CE and Doom this is even more apparent. This game is all about the setting and atmosphere which is still great to this day.

Ryse
I've made a point of playing this because I don't think I've ever actually played a game I've got free with Gold. First impressions are good. Nice setting and something different to what I normally play. Enjoyable combat. Campaign doesn't seem very long and it seems you get achievements for beating it on legendary so I can see myself playing through this again straightaway.

Batman Arkham City
Recently picked this up in the sale. Played the first and not the second. Heard a lot about the Batmobile being an issue in this. Initially didn't think it was too bad. Then had a spell thinking "yeah, this is spoiling it" and now back to thinking it's not so bad. (I've probably only played less than an hour). The game seems so big with lots of things to upgrade and do. I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing! Think I'll probably get Ryse out the way while picking at this and then properly concentrate on this.

Of my other games I regular play -

Battlefront - still working my way to level 100, around the late 80s now. Seems to be a few cheaters turning up now, doing something so their star cards never have to cool down so constantly jet packing and putting their shield on. I'm not a violent person but would like to inflict pain on these virgins!

FIFA 17 - After a dreadful run of form where I didn't win for about 17 games and suffered 3 consecutive relegations from 1st to 3rd division I've now turned it round a bit and I'm back in Division 2. Everton are out of form at the moment though and I've not made a good start to Division 2 so I've left it for a bit and will pick up again after hopefully a win tonight.

Ste, you are definitely GRcade's resident SW Battlefront fan! Good to hear that you're still enjoying it dude.

- - - - - - - - - -

I'm playing...

> Mario Kart 8 (Wii U / Switch) - Monday night GRcade Wii U sessions; and GRcade Switch sessions at various other times.

> Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 (PS4) - My initial impressions were that it's not as good as the Sniper Elite series but, having played a bit more this evening, I'm starting to appreciate it. It has a long start-up time and it is clunky in places but I can see potential in it.

> PES 2017 (PS4) - After taking practically a year-long break from PES, I'm back into it and regaining the love. Just got promoted to Online Division 7 and I've somehow won the first three games using my current favourites Nice... which means that I've already got enough points to stay up for another season, at least :toot: .

Gargoyle's Quest on Gameboy. I've beaten the sequel to this on NES but never this game for whatever reason. It's a fun platformer with some light action RPG elements but the random encounters on the overworld map get a bit tiresome.

Spent an hour playing Chapter 10 of Fire Emblem Fates Conquest. Amazing level, better than anything in Birthright. Tense, surprising in many ways (I literally yelled when my reinforcements arrived).

I should have bought this one instead of Birthright. The gameplay and variation is just way better and satisfying.

Hopefully the rest of the game is at that level. ilI may have judged it too soon.

Dragon Warrior VII on PS1. Man this is a pretty slow moving game, it took me over two hours just to reach the first battle. It's starting to pick up now thankfully.

Darksiders Warmastered Edition (PS4)

I passed this series up last-gen as visually, the style really didn't appeal to me. Picked this version up though after hearing how good the series is and £15.99 for the 2 games from PSN seemed a good deal.

Actually really enjoying it. People weren't lying when they said it's a Zelda clone. Also feels and plays a lot like God of War with a World of Warcraft visual style (from what little I've seen of Wow - War looks like he could be in that game). It's exactly the kind of game I feel like playing at the moment and it's filling the Zelda shaped hole I have - as I don't own a Nintendo system and I'm very jealous of how good BoW looks.

I've just defeated the 1st proper boss which was an absolute pain in the arse (big flying bat). I thought it was me being awful, but having looked online she's renowned for being a pain and many say the hardest boss in the game so that's comforting.

I'm looking forward to chipping away at this over the next couple of weeks, really glad I picked it up. I hear the sequel isn't as good, but will try it out seeing as it came in the bundle. I also hear they did a piss poor job remastering the sequel, which is a shame. This version looks quite nice at times, it's consistent. It certainly looks like a last-gen game though, no hiding that.

Oh wow, is that via original copy or emulator?

Fair play either way, that's a notoriously slow going entry in the series. It does have its fans though, and I believe the 3DS remake does speed it up a little.

ISO on Emulator, I'm considering getting a legit copy but not just yet. It's a good game but I could see a lot of people giving up before they ever get anywhere.

Might be worth seeing if there's a fast forward or frame skip option, for JRPGs I find that invaluable in turn based battles or backtracking.

Being playing Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, it's not as good as the original but still pretty fun. Probably one of the hardest games that I've ever played.

I'm currently using a pretty basic PlayStation emulator called pSX as I couldn't get the game running on ePSXe and I'm not really sure what it can and can't do. I'm strongly considering jail breaking my PS3 so I can play backups (and imports) on legit hardware rather than switching between emulators.

It's one of a handful of games I wish they'd put on the US PlayStation store as if I could play it legitimately I would but I don't see that happening. A physical copy isn't even that expensive but you can't play US PS1 games on a UK PS3 as I learned after buying a couple a few years back.

I'm really starting to enjoy Dragon Quest VII now. I like the way the story works with you piecing back together a broken world one island at a time. I do find myself grinding for money a lot of the time however as new equipment seems extortionately expensive.

I have been made aware that I shouldn't level up too much before I unlock the class system I just wish I knew how much was too much as to be honest all that gold gathering has me feeling a little overpowered already.

Rebel Galaxy
Played about 30 minutes of it a while back, dicked around instead of following the first few missions, got blown up, had no idea what I was doing and gave up. This time I actually stuck to the first couple of missions and managed to not die yet so thats progress. Im still not sure what Im "supposed" to be doing but Ill let it hold my hand for a bit longer before deciding if I want to do other missions or not. Its not bad so far.

Paper Mario Sticker Star:

Congrats devs, you've managed to make an RPG where there is no reason to ever battle a non-boss enemy.

Resident Evil trilogy (4,5,6) is on sale on PSN, haven't played 4 since PS2 days so enjoying going through that again. I started on normal thinking I'm good and it's bloody challenging. I've forgotten loads of the game too so it feels fresh again. Just reached the castle, dreading the bit where they keep carrying Ashley off...

I'm looking forward to replaying 5. I know it got a lot of stick but I actually enjoyed it more than most, nice to see it has all the mercenaries DLC characters etc. I love that mode'

I've dipped my toe into 6. Hmm I knew it was universally panned but I was hoping it would be enjoyable at least. Started with Leon and it's cliche, linear and his melee skills practically make guns pointless. Does anyone know which campaigns are best, or rather in order best to worst?
