I feel Resident Evil 5 got a lot of rather undue stick, it's certainly not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination and great fun in co-op. It does have the dubious honour of having perhaps the most difficult/tedious platinum trophy in my collection however... keeping Sheva alive in professional mode :dread:

I've dipped my toe into 6. Hmm I knew it was universally panned but I was hoping it would be enjoyable at least. Started with Leon and it's cliche, linear and his melee skills practically make guns pointless. Does anyone know which campaigns are best, or rather in order best to worst?

If I remember correctly Leon's is best.

On Chapter 20 of Fire Emblem Fates Conquest.

Had a blast at it this morning on the commute. This level is a bit annoying! The wind keeps blowing troops all over the place, and it's spawning strawberry floaters behind me as well. Restarted it twice already as I was trying different things to see what would stick. This is going to be no slouch.

I think I've strawberry floated myself in Master sealing some of my troops, a lot of them are mounted now, which comes with its annoyances.

Horizon Zero Dawn: Drawing this to a close now, and it's been an incredibly satisfying experience. The Witcher was obviously a huge influence and the Horizon is all the stronger for it, even if it lacks the detail of that game. The story is great, the combat inventive and the visuals amazing.

Prey: Just getting started but I'm liking it so far. There's a constant sense of tension and some of the mechanics are interesting takes on old tropes. Looking forward to it.

I've hit my first real challenge in Dragon Warrior VII. My heaviest hitter left the party for good in the last area I finished and now I've wound up in a penal colony stripped of all my spells and special abilities.

Shadow Complex Remastered (PC). Had no idea what this was but as it came as part of a $1 Humble Bundle sometime back, thought I'd give it a whirl. It seems to be a sideways scrolling type platformer, something like Metroid on the SNES maybe (although don't whinge if my assessment isn't 100% accurate, I didn't play it much on the SNES). Had a fair few frustrating times with jumping and working out where to go next, but when you consider this only cost about 27p, it is utterly ridiculous value for money. Cheap PC gaming.

Aye Shadow Complex is great, though for the love of god skip the cut scenes :P

But you are bang on, it's very much influenced by Super Metroid and other 'Metroidvanias,' coupled with some similarities to last gen big budget titles.

How much cheaper is it on PC in comparison to PS4/xbone?

As I said, I got it as part of a 3 game bundle for $1 so significantly cheaper. I see Deadly Premonition - Director's cut is currently part of a $1 bundle so as I've never played that, will be pushing the boat out later.

It's genuinely worrying people say Leon's is the best story. I started it a few days ago and hated it. Even on normal it's an absolute chore to play through (why they thought horde sections where you just had to survive wave after wave of zombie when ammo is pretty scarce anyway was a good idea I'll never know). Constantly respawning enemies in the graveyard and stuff is brilliant, too. And the fact that even when you're playing in split screen on the same console there's no way of actually pausing the game without going back to the dashboard :fp: It's just stupid, lazy design everywhere you look. But at least you can change the colour of your laser sight(!)

[EDIT: Turns out that even bringing the dashboard up doesn't pause it! Resumed the game to be met with the YOU ARE DEAD screen. strawberry floating hell :fp: ]

I like the sections where you've got random survivors that you think you're meant to protect and then they all die regardless of how many actually die during the fight.

Also FatDaz - Resi 4 doesn't really have any difficulties other than NORMAL and then the unlockable harder ones. I'm still amazed that a game that seems to be a glorified escort mission got such universal praise. And the fact that you have to waste your own healing items on Ashley is terrible. At least Resi 5 made the healing stuff heal both players if they were standing together.

I wish you could buy ammo from the merchant, too. It'd make the whole experience a lot more enjoyable knowing that if you don't quite have enough bullets for a stressful section up ahead you could just stock up from a guy who seems to have bullets galore piled up on his counter - Just not for you.

I'm on Chapter 26 of Fire Emblem Fates Conquest. Went through a bit of a difficulty spike around chapter 21 to 23, the last two missions have been piss easy for some reason.

Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch

A relatively obscure PSP JRPG that harks back to the 16-bit era, not as deep as more modern RPGs with no complex 'systems' to learn and a fairly by the numbers storyline.

Just about finished it now, only need to grind a bit before tackling the final boss.

I definitely prefer the PC port of the 2nd trilogy (the series is currently on the 3rd trilogy of LoH games) which I've yet to finish so I'll be going back to that soon.

30 odd hours into Dragon Warrior VII and the dungeons are now getting increasingly complex and maze like, often needlessly so. I played through an area last night which was a big maze of tree roots with tonnes of branching paths all leading to nothing as there weren't even any treasure chests to be had.

Also I'm finding how long some classes take to master a bit of a chore. Some don't take too long at all but the magic classes seem to take forever, although perhaps it's to balance how overpowered some of the spells seem to be.

Minor niggles aside I'm still enjoying the game overall particularly the almost episodic nature of the story which I dare say the series artist Akira Toriyama had some influence over given his background in manga.

This week I've had fun playing PES 2017 (PS4) online wth Poser and dmin, and enjoyed a brief go of the Disgaea 5 demo (Switch). I also played Mario Kart Monday (Wii U) with GRcadians :toot: .

I need to get back to Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 (PS4) before I forget the game controls; I've played the first two missions so far.

Picked up Uncharted 4 again this weekend, I started it earlier in the year and made pretty quick progress right through to Chapter 12 and really enjoyed it before stopping and for whatever reason not really having much of a desire to go back. Finally got back to it today and done another 2 chapters today, really enjoyed them once I got going on 12, hopefully can get it polished off in the next week or so.

I think Shadow Complex Remastered may be heading for my "abandoned" pile. It certainly becomes more enjoyable as you upgrade the suit and get new abilities, but fiddly jumping and on some occasions aiming has not improved. What is really annoying though is what I need to do to progress. I need to get a certain piece of armour but in order to get it, I *think* I need a number of a certain type of collectables scattered around the game. The collectables are shown on the map as a "?" but this doesn't tell you which collectables they are so I will have to go around checking all to find what I'm looking for. I don't even know for certain that this is what I need to do and frustratingly, sometimes I get to the "?" location but can't find the collectable or I need some other power I don't yet have.

The map is also a bit of a bitch, you can go on some route only to find that where it shows an entrance it isn't actually one as you have to open it/destroy it from the other direction, which I'd not taken because something was blocking me from that side in the first place. :x

TL;DR edition - strawberry floating backtracking.

Genuine question and not just me being a dick but is this your first game like this? Some degree of backtracking is usually part and parcel of a Metroidvania type game.

Probably the first for several years. It is the combination of the backtracking with a map that doesn't show routes properly and clearly show what I'm supposed to be collecting is the problem.

Now that Im done with Breath of the Wild Ive turned my attention to my neglected Steam backlog.

60 Seconds - PC
I like it, its a really good idea for a game, a mad cap minute of grabbing stuff to save and then a more thoughtful section where you use the stuff you saved. Luck is a huge part of the game, both with how close the useful stuff is to the hatch and with how the bunker section will go but its pretty enjoyable so far. Just enough weird stuff happens to keep it interesting but I would like a bit more to do in the bunker, or at least more ways to try and get out of trouble. Its happened a couple of times where everyone has been sick or injured so I cant leave the bunker so Im just going through the motions until everyone dies. Still, worth checking out and a pretty cool little game, Ill stick with it for another bit, I wanna see more of the events in the bunker.

The Fall - PC
Ive only played a few minutes of this but I really like the premise of it and the execution seems to be decent too. So far Im getting a Limbo vibe from the aesthetic, I cant say much about it as I really only solved the first puzzle but its good so far.

And for good measure heres what Ive been playing on my phone.

RCT Classic - Android
As mentioned in the mobile gaming thread I took a punt on this as I wanted to see what a proper game I loved would be like on mobile and I have to say its pretty great. The controls have been adapted to suit touch screen control, theres a few instances where the button is a little too small but then I have giant fingers so thats to be expected. Its a mashup of RCT 1 & 2, from what Ive seen all the scenarios and all the rides are present so not only is it a good game but theres lots of content there too. If you like the original games and have a decent phone then I say go for it, it costs more than a mobile game usually does but it is a proper full on port of RCT 1 & 2, definitely worth the money in my view.
