Dead Rising 4 - PS4 - after watching a lot of reviews I was expecting the worst game ever. But it's actually pretty good fun, the lack fo time allows me to explore and level up, the keys, lockers, safe houses and blue prints are all well done and give me something to work towards, tons of weapons to craft and some serious amounts of zombies.

The only negatives are the lack of the amazing steam roller motor bike from DR3, the lack of upgradable weapons (DR3) had a fog horn that on upgrade 3 would wipe out anything, and the messy map, it's genuinely hard to find my way around.

Still it's brilliant fun and very Christmas themed.

Wish my image sig would work

I'm playing through this too (on PC), very enjoyable. Up to case 3 and not in a rush to get through this, having fun exploring the buildings etc.

Still dead rising 4. Case 3, ignoring the story and trying to get all blue prints and level up a lot. Currently level 71.

I made decent progress on the witcher 2 today and s0me bits were annoying as hell, chapter 1 has been pretty good, getting a lot of mileage out of quite a small area.

It’s funny how certain control schemes take off but others don’t. I remember magazines at the time saying the twin stick controls in Alien Resurrection were odd yet they are the standard for console FPS games now.

Ha yeah, there's a pretty infamous Gamespot quote for that:

Does make you wonder what the initial thinking behind the dual anolog setup was with Sony, how they expected the second stick to be used and what ultimately pushed them to implement it. Hell, their flagship game for it, Ape Escape, used it in a similar way to Grabbed by the Ghoulies.

The first game I remember it being implemented with was Gran Turismo, one stick to steer the other to give analogue acceleration and braking, felt weird at first but was actually pretty useful when you got the hang of it.

XCOM War of the Chosen: Equal parts engrossing and frustrating. This game is strawberry floating toooough. When a plan comes together it's amazing but then three soldiers miss on 80% shots and you want to smash your monitor.

World in Conflict: I'd forgotten how good this is. I'm still in the early stages where the difficulty is "point your tanks here" but it's fun.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix - Been playing quite a bit of this recently. Given it's age, the HD sheen does make it look pretty good. The lighting is nice and the main characters look ok. It's also very charming and the Disney side of things is integrated nicely into the Final Fantasy gameplay. But, the fact it's a 15 year old makes it kind of frustrating at points. The lack of a quest log is a bit annoying and some of the worlds just seem to require you visiting a particular location or talk to a NPC to trigger the next section but without any kind of signposting. Also, strawberry floating hell the camera is a pile of gooseberry fool at times. And that on-rails section between worlds is crap. All in all though, the positives outweigh the negatives and I'll push on with it.

It does give me a lot of hope for KH3 though, KH art direction coupled with PS4 polish and modern gameplay should make it pretty good.

One of my favourite games of all time (certainly in my top 20). Hope you dig it. And don't read anything about it (if you haven't already).

Don't know anything beyond there being several endings.

Played a bit of it last night, I was generally gripped by the stuff happening in it. Didn't want to put my DS down.

I'm not a big puzzle game fan so I'm hoping there's more visual novel stuff in it than puzzle solving. The writing is pretty good in areas.

I think the balance will suit you. You do need to be patient with this one though, it has some frustrations that are ironed out in later games.

Dead Rising 3 on Xbox One

Got it from game pass but I think I will be buying Gold Edition so I can get this for keeps, since I'm enjoying it a lot.

Not doing Nightmare Mode, and I do like the time system in original mode but it's nice to see if I want to do DR1/2 mode. Just wanted to take it easy and mow down the zombies

I'm sad they decided to make borders flashing red if I'm low on health though, I hate that gooseberry fool.

Playing more of Dead Rising 3 and I'm enjoying it a lot still, though I do think DR2 is lot better game than this but I can always go back to dr2, in meantime I'll enjoy this game - planning to do DLC and such, though that'll have wait until after Christmas since I want to buy Apocalypse bundle so I can keep DR3 for long time.

I used to think the original was best but after playing through 1, 2 and off the record this year,, felt 2 is the best. 3 is pretty good though but the DLC is fairly short, but quite good. Playing through 4 now and this might end up being my favourite.

Metro Last Light: Redux.
I had this on my old pc but never played it and seeing it on Xbox game pass I thought I'd give it a shot and it's fantastic. Yes, it may not be a looker any more but I really don't care as I'm enjoying skulking about and trying to preserve my ammo (I'm playing the limited ammo version so I can't just headless chicken like I normally do) and for once the story isn't just a side note.
If the upcoming sequel is this good but with enhanced visuals it may turn into one of my games of 2018.

Last Light is really damn good. It really showed how a dedicated team can craft an excellent despite a lot of difficult in their way. They were essentially broke during development.

Huh, what made you think 4 being your favourite? It's least liked of the series according to the fanbase so I'm curious what it makes you like the game.

I'll be getting the game myself so I can judge it myself but appearantly it made 1-3 storyline irrelevant and lacks features that other games has means it'll have to be cheap purchase for me.

Not sure how it makes the earlier games irrelevant, it is an older Frank West and there are references to the original story. What I like about it is the size and how it is put together. It is set across a town and unlike 3 which was also large, very little loading to break the flow. The game also just seems technically better than 3 (playing on PC though so may not be the same on XBO). Also like the fact that if you have the right weapons to build others, it lets you know and you can build them anywhere. For me, it feels like all the good stuff I like about DR in an accessible package.
