Shining in the Darkness is the first in the series. It's a first person dungeon crawler with typical JRPG battles whereas Shining Force is a tactics game isn't it? I don't usually like dungeon crawlers like this as I tend to get lost but I'm using some maps to help me.

I think you're right. What is the story like in Shining in the Darkness?

Very, very basic. There's a princess trapped in a multi floored dungeon by a sorcerer of some sort and you and a couple of buddies have to rescue her. There's a little exposition if you return to the castle area after clearing each area of the dungeon but it's usually little more than "Well done, now try the next area".

Into the Breach.

It's strawberry floating good man. Real strawberry floating good. Advance Wars Vs Chess Vs Pacific Rim* Vs Edge of Tomorrow This coming from someone who never got on with the studio's last game, FTL.

*It's bordering on a full-on rip off of PR's narrative but, eh, strawberry float it.

Kinda but there's only one central dungeon with multiple floors. It's more like "Well done, you retrieved the MacGuffin of Destiny but now you need to find the Plot Device of Immortality".

That sounds more like "Sorry! The princess hasn't arrived yet. Take this for compensation and try again later."

Might give it a go. I remember really enjoying those early dungeon crawlers back in the day.

I'm really enjoying it too, I don't know what all the "its too easy" comments on steam are on about though as I'm finding it fairly difficult on Normal mode.

Oh strawberry float that noise. It's beating my arse on Normal, and I couldn't give a toss what some nerdcore try-hards think. It's brilliant.

FTL was hard a strawberry float. Maybe it's just not as hard as that?

It's definitely not. It's still hard, but the entry point is much more accessible.

It's on one of those Mega Drive collections... Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection I think.

Almost beat the 2nd island earlier on but just couldn't protect all the cities so ran out of power and bang, time reset.

I'm using the set of mechs called Rust Hulks, they're good at crowd control but a little tricky to use effectively.

Played the first few missions of No One Lives Forever this afteroon and, my God, it's still one of the best shooters ever made. I can't wait to play the sequels as, although I also loved them, I don't remember them quite as much as the original so they should be an extra treat.

Resident Evil 7. Not really impressed by this so far. Kinda reminds me of Outlast, which wasn't a game I was that into.

Plus the resolution is utter dogshit on the XB1 version. I looks like everything has been smeared by a layer of vaseline.

Yeah the resolution takes a bit to get used to, unlike Outlast you can shoot the enemies though.

I get what they are trying to do with it, but yeah, I'm not really compelled by it. I will probably try and finish it. I'm about to go into the son's outhouse. I assume he will have some kind of escape room thing setup in it.

I'm about three quarters of the way through LA Noire and it's getting to the point where it's outstayed its welcome - it really needs to be a 10-12 hour experience as there is just so much repetition and the narrative isn't as great as it thinks it is.

Took a break to put a couple of hours into Robinson: The Journey, which is nice enough. Looks great in places but seems more like a tech demo than an actual game, though I'm enjoying it enough to see it through to the end (as is typical for a VR game, it's shaping-up to be a 4-5 hour lump).
