Daft Punk - RAM | Pitchfork [8.8]

I really like 'Giorgio by Moroder' (the two minutes of commentary aside) and 'Contact' but the rest of the album, even on repeat listens hasn't really done anything to excite me ('Get Lucky' feels stale already). I don't hold them in as high regard as most either and only really enjoyed their work on the Tron soundtrack.

Just downloaded and listened to this. Was doing other things at the same time so not sure on all the song names yet but I like most of them. I just don't love them. I think it was being hyped up so much that anything less than perfect would be seen as not living up to expectations.

It isn't as good Discovery. But then hardly any albums are.

Still, great stuff. Daft Punk. :wub:

I must've played the album a good 4 or 5 times now, each time convincing myself that there'll be a moment where everything just clicks. Only it never does. The biggest problem for me is that there's just nothing musically satisfying there. 'Get Lucky' is the one track I might continue to stick on (providing it doesn't it doesn't get too overplayed), but a lot of the other tracks are just boarderline depressing. Not even the mighty DJ Falcon was enough to restore my enthusiasm - 'Contact' was the one track I was most looking forward to hearing, but it just ends up being a bit of a damp squib, with that rising squawky sound Thomas seems intent on adding ever since the duo did Aerodynamite.

The thing is, I get what the album is all about and I even respect DP for trying emulate the type of music that inspired them in the first place. It's just there isn't a single tune on RAM that I'm ever going to want to crank up and really get immersed in... And that makes me a little gutted.

On the plus side, I can imagine it spawning a ton of brilliant remixes. :simper:

There are SO many people forcing themselves to like this so they don't go back on their own hype. The album just isn't my cup of tea, Get Lucky as a single does not represent the rest of the album. I nearly stopped listening when the documentary started midway through a song.

I've given it a full listen a couple of times, now I only listen to the two Pharrell Williams tracks. Such a shame after all the hype but the whole publicity machine was fun getting caught up in

Not quite. Romanthony was the singer on One More Time, Digital Love and Too Long. He was also on Thomas Bangalter's Roulé label.

I haven't got a record player (yet)

I've listened to it in full a few times now and I really like it. Not as good as most of their previous stuff and It's not the kind of album I could listen to random tracks from (With the exception of Get Lucky and Contact), but it's one I've enjoyed. I'm certainly more likely to listen to this than Human After All, which to me just seems like a library of stuff they later sampled on Alive 2007. That said I've not had heard a Daft Punk album I've not liked.

Reminds me of when Soulwax did the same. And then kinda did so again. And then didn't stop remixing things and haven't released anything that wasn't a remix since.

CD arrived. :datass:

1st track was awesome. Up to Giorgio by Moroder now and I can see what people mean about the talking. The song just got started proper and it sounds proper funky but I'm really surprised that they didn't work the dialogue into the song better. It would've been brilliant if it had gone with the music but they just seemed to clash. Really surprised at that. The actual music to this song is great though.

Bopping away already and I just can't help it. My head just refuses to stop bobbing.
