PostNew Gaming Site Anyone
by Lex-Man » Sun Aug 17, 2008 2:02 pm

This idea is something that started in the off topic thread,

but is anyone interested in setting up a new gaming site, I'm interested in writing stuff and will lead a hand with any HTML/ Coding stuff that needs doing.

Use_The_Forks is interested in writing and Garth has offered gamufi.com as a domain name.

I'm happy to put some money towards hosting although I want to add advertising to try and re coup the costs. Also if possible I would like J2EE hosting and would be happy to build a content system for the site if we did get it. The only problem with this is the cost of J2EE hosting it a lot more than PHP or ASP hosting.

I've got a domain and webspace waiting to be used. It's got a decent, short, memorable name - Jusan. I'm in the middle of uplaoding Joomla to it at the moment, then I'll do the forum.

If you're interested in helping me set this up, I'd welcome anyone willing to contribute. If people would prefer to keep it as a site only I'll leave the forum and just put a link here.

Some extra info:
I have a video recording card (component), so I can add video content to the site.
I've got video editing software, VirtualDUB (free).
I'm happy to record podcasts for GRcade and the new site.
The site and hosting is paid for.

EDIT: It's up and running, it just looks a bit bare:

I don't think it's wise for me to commit to a new site right now but out of curiosity can anyone please explain what the hell happened to Gamufi?

AFAIK, Gamufi was just starting to slow way, way down in terms of posting and any posts that would be made were in the Banter Thread mostly. Then I think it stopped loading one day and a little while later Glenn/Tangier created Tenkio and that too died on its arse.

Sorry, I've taken so long to reply.

I going to send PM's to everyone whose interested. Can you think about what you want to write about. Personally I want to do a load of PC based stuff especially looking at free games.

Also what domain you want to use DML's, Garth's or a new one.

The domain expired a while ago, and was eventually put up for auction (which was quite recently in fact). I thought I may as well have a go at bidding on it and try to resurrect Gamufi some day, but then the GRUK forum shut down and I got involved in building this place instead.
So yeah, if you guys want to set up some sort of gaming site together under the Gamufi name and link it with this forum, I'd be happy to point the domain to your hosting space :)

I'd really love Gamufi to come back, but it'll never be as good as it was in its heyday. :(

Having said that, a games, music and films site under the name Gamufi would be good. Any reason why it just has to be games?

Hi guys,

Was just reading the thread and thought I'd ask if anyone would like to write for my site. It's only been going a few weeks and I'm currently the only writer for it. It covers movie, games and music mainly but also anything that interests me. I'm finding it really hard to find writers for it so if some of you are just looking for somewhere to post your work then feel free to drop me a PM. I'm happy to post up any of your articles and could even get an account set up for you to post it yourself.

The site is pretty much in it's infancy so hopefully it can really grow and branch out as nothings set in stone at the moment. It's taken me a long time to find a good template for it so finally I can try and concentrate on the content.

If no ones interested and you want to set up your own site then good luck to you all and thanks for your time :)

I'm happy with what the majority wants to do.

Working on Akolang would be fine with me.

I'm going to write my PM tonight so I can find out what people want to do.

P.S I happy to let people write what they want as long as it's consistent. Once the subject, subjects have been set that it no backsies.

I'd be happy to write for your site, tomvek. I'd mostly do game, film or music retrospectives, since I don't get that much new stuff. I could be like the resident retrospective writer or something.

Cool :)

This is actually something I wanted to do on the site. I was really wanting to do some features on older music and films, but I've have limited time due to just doing basic news stories and the odd feature. If you wanted to do those then I'd be very happy :D .
