Just contact Microsoft support via online chat. They can cancel preorders no problem, I've done it before.

Doing that now, nice one! :)

I'll play it when it comes to EA Access.

Which is ridiculous because sometimes a 7 can be better than an 8. ;)

All of this "controversy" (and it really isn't much of a controversy) just shows how horribly inflated review scores are. A game is a disaster because it has dropped from an average of 9.1 to 7.5? It's strawberry floating crazy that scoring 7.5/10 would mean a game is bad.

I haven't played Andromeda and so have no idea if it is any good or not, but if it is bad then 7.5 is a ridiculously high score, if it is good then people thinking that 7.5 is a low score are ridiculous. And if it is just a bog standard ok game then both sides are wrong as it should have scored a 5 and be spoken of as average, not good or bad.

Andromeda has negative reviews throughout. Don't even try to compare this train wreck o the original

I'm not making excuses at all, as I haven't played the thing and am it judging it yet. Merely finding it ridiculous how desperate you are to attack a title that scores 75%, and which you haven't played yet. That's a 16% difference between something you laud as brilliant and "a train wreck".

Or that one game in a series scoring 9/10 and the next a 7.5/10 is somehow an drop in quality unprecedented in modern video gaming.

As Daz said, most people who have played it seem to think it's, at the very least, good.

I'm not even trying to defend Andromeda, as I haven't played it myself yet, more this internet culture you're peddling where you are determined to lambast a title you also haven't played yet, because it's scoring a more-than-respectable 75%. You don't seem particularly open to discussing the game itself, so I would argue your mind has already been made up by the percentage points dished out by others.

I'm not comparing it to the original either, as I've currently only played one of the titles I'd be comparing. The original was a flawed title back in 2007, in my eyes. It was also inferior to KOTO, which must have come out in 2003/2004. Such a drop in quality from Bioware, unprecedented in modern video gaming...

Well unless Nick has either a gaming PC or Xbox One then nope he wouldn't have played a single second of it yet. If your not getting it then fine but stop with the constant bullshit of slating something you haven't even tried by posting shitty gifs of glitches that even in my 7 hours playtime with the trial, 7 hours I really really enjoyed, I never came across one bar 2 seconds of a missing gun and the backwards facing pistol which will be in everyone's game till its fixed.

Gaaawwwwd bless you

The originals consistently got average review scores in the 90s, this is a huge drop, something has gone seriously wrong with this game.

Considering how many great games we've seen release over the past couple of months, this first really deserve a look.

Nah, that's a fair point.
But has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look nore like?

Yeah I completely wait what?

It's quite simple, has anyone nore like far decided even to use really been but?

From what I played of it I also liked it but the reviews all 'round being slightly bad have put me off getting it at mo, As I say, I'll play it when it comes to EA Access or when it's half price in a few months. I've never Played Mass Effect 3 either and it's sitting on my hard drive right now in backwards compatibility format (Via EA Access), which also plays smoother and loads faster than its 360 counter part.

As far as I can see, the reaction has been so negative from fans as this is a turnaround. I don't think it's to do with the scores so much as it is to do with the cheapening of the brand.

Mass Effect is, in many people's eyes, a very fondly regarded series with an interesting universe comprised of some great games. Add nostalgia to this, and you've got a brand with a massive, eager following. If Andromeda had been getting 80s I still think there'd have been some push-back as, in the eyes of most fans, this is a premium series of games that has always been not only well reviewed, but perhaps the best RPG to come out in each game's release year (not saying this is accurate by the way). Andromeda is not only a downgrade in terms of this premium perception, but many reviews are calling it an out and out disappointment. For the Mass Effect community this is a first, and they are upset. I don't get the hostility but I can appreciate why certain people would feel betrayed. It's like if the new series of Stranger Things turned out to be merely average or, and this is probably the best example I can think of, the fact that Dark Souls 2 was merely good rather than excellent.

It's all about context rather than viewing the scores as numbers alone. Of course, EA also shot themselves in the foot with the EA access demo.

EA Access demo's are mandatory across all EA games it seems (bar Respawn games)

It's only Mass Effect 3 that was rated very low, and that'll be because of the disastrous ending.

They're all low. ME has 3.2 and ME2 has 4.3. That seems unusual given that they're both universally praised by critics and fans alike.

You took that from Nick's post I think? The three games there were all Mass Effect 3, on three different platforms.

Ha, you're quite right. Sorry, having a senior moment I guess.

Funnily enough, Dark Souls 2 also came to my mind as well. Haven't played that game yet (finally beat the original so it's going to get its turn soon) but the treatment it got from the DS fan base also seemed out of touch with its "good-but-not-in-the-same-league-as-its-predecessor" review scores.

But as I said, the series hasn't been without its criticism in the past either. The original didn't garner universal praise from fans and critics and was generally held up to be a flawed but worthy entry point for a new franchise. It got labeled dull, awkward, fiddly, repetitive, wooden, too straight-faced, quite pedestrian and either not RPG enough or too shooter-y. It wasn't lambasted on forums and the like but there was definitely a sizeable group of people who were unmoved by it.

As I said, that's why when the second one came out, it was generally held up as fulfilling the first game's promise, ironing out the flaws and finally delivering a must-play experience that was one of the genre's finest. With ME2 there was a sense of surprise from some quarters about how good it was and how much it improved on the original. It was akin to the gap between the original Assassin's Creed and the sequel.

And the ME3 got quite a savaging from fans and critics. Admittedly largely because of the ending, but still, these aren't three universally loved titles held up as pinnacles of that generation. I would argue that only the second game gets that universal praise.

From what I read of Andromeda, it sounds quite similar to the first game.

That was heavily flawed and sometimes quite dull and plodding, with more than a few dour characters who took themselves too seriously and a massively explorable galaxy that was one or two social hubs with corridor shooty bits or those horrendous side missions branching off from it. The animations were stiff and leaden, not quite up to the standard of the new generation (back in 2007) and it was an awkward mix of RPG and shooter and sometimes occupying a weird empty middle ground.

I still really enjoyed it, and I'm perhaps painting an overall negative view of the first game, but such an outlook definitely existed even back in 2007 upon Mass Effect's release. That was also hyped up as being something totally next-gen and astounding, and there were more than a few people on here who were disappointed by it.

It's easy to put spin on things. I mean, one of the top reviews is by Everyeye.it, you know THE Everyeye.it.

I know I trust them. Or how about LaPS4, these are quality trustworthy websites, for sure.

Floex, come on, dude... a "spin"? Nick stated that the game had mainly negative reviews ("throughout") but that doesn't tie up with Metacritic; for which he provided the link in his quote. I belive that Metacritic generally uses the same range of reviewers for most games.

Sure, I'm not looking to say that Andromeda is a classic but I do wonder why folk spend energy on "putting down" a game that doesn't appeal to them. If it doesn't float your boat then, hey - that's cool! - perhaps it's time to move on to something else.

So why is there a debate about the metacritic score at all then, positive or negative? It always has and always will use random sites scores no one cares about.

I'm mainly just venting here.

I'm as big a Mass Effect fan of anyone here, double dipped on the original trilogy, bought the DLC and bought into the lore and was hugely anticipating the game. I even used to watch countless YouTube fan analysis and discussion videos.

This was one of my most anticipated games this generation and for EA to release the game in such a shoddy state is frankly disgusting. Once again EA don't get my money this gen, I'll be spending it on Horizon and Persona 5 instead.
