That's not a growth wrote:I must try to play through the Mass Effect games again. I tried the 1st one, but gave up after about 2 hours. The shooting was terrible.

I played it when it first came out, and was impressed.

However I tried to play it on Steam a few months ago, and it has aged terribly. I still remember the huge controversy about the sex scenes though. :lol:

That question reminded me of this quote.

Ubisoft Senior VP of Sales and Marketing, Tony Key;
That's what all our games are about; we won't even start if we don't think we can build a franchise out of it. There's no more fire and forget -- it's too expensive.

So yeah, people know the Mass Effect universe and they simply want to milk it while they can. It's easier to build upon an already established universe. If the predecessors for the game made money and the studio is still able to work, It's basically a no-brainer for publishers to give the green light for that game. Creating a new IP has more risks.

It'll be a shooter.

Don't mind whether it's a prequel or sequel, just keep it as detached from the trilogy as possible. The cleaner the slate, the better. Looking forward to seeing what they've cooked up, I'm guessing we'll see a teaser at the VGAs.

Christ! That's a really depressing quote. I fear for the next gen of games.

I would agree with you but I still remember being slapped around the face with the flaccid penis that was Mass Effect 3.

I could not give a strawberry float about this series any more after the last game. I'm not sure how Bioware managed to turn me off so much, I was a massive ME fanboy :(

I thought the next game carried on from the third. Shepard was merged with a reaper and then you travel around as that. It sounded utterly ridiculous, but so was the third game.

For me, my enthusiasm has dwindled with each game in the series. Mass Effect 1 had some very obvious flaws, and while it had the most RPG elements out of the three, it also had horribly fudged interfaces and inventories. For me though, it had the most promise out of any of the games. Had the games started with ME 2 (and to a greater extent, ME 3) we'd be wondering how they could expand the concept out and make it grander and more complex. What we got, was ME1 with scope, but gradually more scaled back with each installment.

The first ME was the closest we got to this gen's KOTOR. As I said, it had promise as an action RPG and just needed some refinement, not the "RPG" part being dropped.

If the games are good, does it matter whether or not they have different names?

This is something I could get excited about, but those last 20 minutes of ME3 were just...

I'll wait for reviews, and to see if the story is written by someone other than a mongoloid hamster.

Best series of the last gen by far. The last 10 minutes should not tar the whole series you absolute glowy floaters.

I had this delicious 3 course meal, it was great until the chef decided to climb onto the table and drop a steamer onto the key lime pie. Im not going to let that tar the meal though.

Hmm, technology looks like it's still in use, so three possible things:

It's a prequel or;

Shepard choosing to side with the reapers is the official canon or;

They carry on as nothing's happened even though if it happens a week ago, Star Trek style.
