So it's available tomorrow on Origin/EA Access with the 10 hour trial, how do the trials work? Seems silly asking seeing as I was a subscriber on Xbone but I never tried out any trials and I've just paid for a years sub on PC to try out the trial before I unlock the game.

So do you actually get to play through 10 hours of the campaign with progress carrying over or over will it reach a single point in the campaign then stop?

Contrary John is at it again:

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/0 ... ing-hours/

John Walker, known for his bafflingly negative reviews of otherwise we'll received games, has absolutely slaughtered the first 5 hours.

The first few hours of Andromeda are a gruesome trudge through the most trite bilge of the previous three games, smeared out in a setting that’s horribly familiar, burdened with some outstandingly awful writing, buried beneath a UI that appears to have been designed to infuriate in every possible way
(emphasis mine).

Blimey. That is a tad off-putting.

Eurogamer have also played the first five hours and their opinion seems a lot more positive. Different strokes, I guess.

You can play up to the end of the 1st world in the campaign with your progress carrying over, sounds like it'll be 4 or 5 hours worth.

I like John Walker but it really does seem like he finds no joy in life

Reminder: Eurogamer gave a recommended to Sniper Elite 4, but not to Horizon or Final Fantasy 15

So?

Well the Martin Robinson reviewed Sniper Elite and Horizon. I don't see how anyone could argue that Sniper is better, even objectively, Horizon is going to appeal to more people. Especially when one of the main reasons he cited as a bad point for horizon was it not having it's own identity... Because apparently there are so many games like Horizon. He also recommended the Division, despite it copying Destiny very very closely.

Then he wrote this in his sniper elite review:

Such blemishes (He mentions the writing is horrendous and the storyline is forgettable) aren't enough to mask the brilliance that shines through here. Rebellion has folded in the essence of stealth greats such as Splinter Cell and Metal Gear while keeping the characterful flavour of Sniper Elite itself

So blemishes in sniper elite are fine because he personally likes the series, and so are taking inspiration from other games. But in the case of Horizon it's bad? Logic.

If he ends up writing the review instead of Tom, I wouldn't take any notice of it. There is no consistency to his reviews.

Opinions gonna opinion, not recommending it is a 6/10 kinda mark? a Fair few reviews on Horizon's metacritic are around the 6-8 mark so some people just have that opinion, its not like it got 8's plus across the board and someone gave it a 4 and said it wasnt as good as FarCry. :shifty:

I don't mind if he thinks it's bad, he's allowed to.

But his arguments literally don't hold any weight when you compare them to his other reviews. The reasons he cites for not liking Horizon are ignored in his Sniper Elite Review for example.

Plus I hate it when people talk meta about the game development industry instead of just reviewing a game for what it is.

You don't have film reviewers going "OH gooseberry fool NO, ANOTHER SUPERHERO FILM" they just tell you whether or not it's a good film. They don't spend the entire review comparing it to other strawberry floating films.
Or saying "Oh yeah it was a good film in every single way, but because it took inspiration from other films and I watch a lot of films you shouldn't buy it"

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but his two reviews contradicted each other, that was my entire point...

"I don't see how" does not mean "I don't think it's possible" or "People who like Sniper Elite are wrong"

Is judging a (presumably) 50 hours + RPG based on the first opening hours really a good idea? I would imagine the first part of any such RPG is probably going to be filled with exposition dumps and character introductions so probably not exactly the best part of the game. It would probably be prudent for reviewers to bare this in mind and withhold the bile until they can give a full review.
