Alex Kurtzman is attached to the new series, which will premiere in January 2017 on CBS before new episodes debut on its digital and VOD platform.

TNG in the new film universe?
Or maybe back to the main universe set in the 25th Century?

Great news, Im guessing it will be set in the new film universe with plenty of nods to the older series.

I find the lack of details annoying. Boo hiss

Not along ago and read of a TV series in development whereby pilots were sent to CBS. It was set in the 25th century. I hope it is still the case as I am getting bored of this Original series stuff which I think should be left to the films.

If it is an animated series then I will kill myself! I'd love to see a new Trek series with influences from a lot of the amazing programmes that have been created in its absence.

Would love this to be 25th Century Trek. The fallout from the Dominion War and the destruction of Romulus leaving a power vacuum could lead to some amazing stuff.

It's a shame there are certain things we're unlikely to see like Data being Captain of the Enterprise or the return of Sisko but some appearances from Ambassador Picard on Vulcan and the like would be awesome.

I always got the impression Patrick Stewart doesn't really like his sci-fi work that much, so I'm not sure he would agree to cameo in New Trek.

He does go to conventions and stuff occasionally, I've no doubt he would prefer to be known more for his RSC stuff than TNG but I don't think he'd be as begrudging as some of the other actors. Plus, he had a cameo in the first Wolverine film so if he turns down new Trek after doing that then he's dead to me.

One thing is for sure, Denise Crosby is on the phone right now furiously trying to weasel her way in to the new series.

I'd like to see a new series if they take it in the direction of the new films. Ride the action sci-fi wave that will hopefully come from Star Wars.
If it's old style then they can keep it.

Hopefully being kept as far away from Star Trek aw possible.
And being told to shut up a lot.

Making podcasts, playing board games, going to conventions. Not a bad way to spend your days to be fair.

He is hosting Blizzcon this month, he appeared in Dark Matter (new Scifi show, that was actually alright) in what looks to be a reoccuring villainous role.

As for the news, there are a lot of things they need to steer clear of, and cheif among them is time travel. It really annoys me, I mean they are set in the future with tons of alien races, and all sorts of possibilities for stories, and to use time travel, and the blasted holodeck all the time for their plot devices really is lazy. I know there were a couple of good episodes, but they were more often than not the worst.

I do wonder what style it will end up being, as the new film is clearly far more action based than the 90's shows, and I believe the films writer is involved, which again leads me to believe it will be more action than drama. Plus now in the Arc storied world TV is set in, I cannot imagine they will not have some overly elaborate arc that will surely either a) result in the destruction of the Federation b) War with the Klingons

DS9 was largely arc based (especially later on) and was absolutely phenomenal at its best. Being on a space station and thus in the same location made it easier to do that than for the shows where it's one crew flying aboot all over the place but there's still lots of potential.

Thinking about it, would CBS even have the rights to use the movie universe?

Are CBS and Universal not all part of Viacom?

I hoping they'd bring back a TV show for this franchise. Excited.

I thought CBS split from Viacom.
I think CBS have the Star Trek TV rights, but Viacom and Paramount have the film rights.

Then again American ownership and rights are so convoluted it's hard to tell without a law degree.
