If it makes you feel any better, I was pretty baffled & irritated at
how lightly-defended Earth was -- I felt even after
the loss of Starbase 1 it should have been tough for Klingon raiders to get past
the Mars Defense Perimeter.
I feel like I'm engaging in this completely tangentially to you though. I basically like episodes that remind me of TNG and dislike episodes that don't. TNG often had wonky scriptwriting so that part doesn't bother me so much.
