I didn't like the trailer as to me there was so much action it put me off slightly.
I'm still going to watch it but my hopes for something with DS9 levels of story and character progression seems maybe beyond this series.

I am however intrigued by the idea that every series will be a story in itself with a new ship and time period every series as that could be the shake-up they need to really give Star Trek something totally new.

The amount of vitriol being thrown at this online is ridiculous. It's a trailer for show. Of course it's going to show the action bits.

Klingons look shite, but whatever. I'm just glad Star Trek is being given another shot.

I am sure they said this was not the case

Yeah they did

Also has everyone seen this http://comicbook.com/startrek/2017/07/2 ... ck-sister/
Seems the lead is essentially Spock's foster sister, quite why they needed a link to the original cast is beyond me. Doesn't fit at all especially because of Sybock in Star Trek V

She's not his foster sister, she's his half sister, they have the same human mother.

Not to sound like a dick, but I did link the updated article:

UPDATE: It seems there was some confusion over the exact nature of Michael Burnham's relationship to Spock. The official Twitter account of Star Trek: Discovery tweeted during the panel that Burnham was Spock's "half-sibling" and that she was "raised on Vulcan by her surrogate father, Sarek, and human mother, Amanda." As such, we initially reported that Burnham was Spock's half-sister. Additional reporting from the panel and information from the official Star Trek website clarifies that Burnham is not blood-related to Spock at all, but was taken in at a very young age after her parents died by Spock's parents. Sarek saw raising a fully human child as an opportunity to better understand his wife's human nature, which was also present in his son.

So this starts next week on Netflix. Is no-one interested or has the chat moved to another thread?

Quietly optimistic, while still preparing for the inevitable disappointment.

Is it Netflix style (Whole season at once) or a weekly thing?

I'll definitely be watching.
I imagine it'll be new episodes weekly, it's not a Netflix shoe they're just distributing it outside the US where it's on CBS own streaming service.

That seems to be becoming the norm for all media, regardless of whether the makers have confidence in the product or not.

Twitter impressions of 1st 2 episodes -

@ira
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY is lit beyond strawberry floating belief. Next level.
@JacksonLanzing
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY is DS9 reborn, with emotion, intelligence and new science fiction concepts to spare. I am thrilled.
@CubanMissileDH
People I trust just came out of the Star Trek: Discovery premiere, and they are raving. My hype is now OFF THE strawberry floating CHARTS.
@MikeMcMahanTM
Just got out of the Star Trek Discovery Premiere and I have something to say, but if you’re not into Star Trek then stop reading now.

@MikeMcMahanTM
Okay those jerks are gone- Discovery is great. I was completely surprised. We saw the first two and I can’t wait for ep 3.
@jakeboyslim
Jazzed about the positive reactions to @startrekcbs I'm seeing from my friends who attended the premiere tonight. Can't wait for Sunday!
@michelledeidre
#StarTrekDiscovery's first ep is so good, everyone. @SonequaMG kills it. Acknowledging the old while embracing the new. Can't wait for more.
@RBryant2012
Holy gooseberry fool got to see #StarTrekDiscovery and I liked it so much!!!!'
@velocciraptor
OK just got out of #StarTrekDiscovery and can't say much but... It's good. Really good.
@grantimahara
Guys, the first episode of #StarTrekDiscovery is Awesome. Cinematic. Epic. Well done, @StarTrek. Well done.
@TrekMovie
Quick Spolier free review of #StarTrekDiscovery 2part premiere : Truly cinematic and steeped in Trek lore. Lots of action and backstory...
@melcaylo
Saw the first two episodes of #StarTrekDiscovery tonight and loved it. I will be subscribing to @CBSAllAccessTV for sure.
@DanCasey
#StarTrekDiscovery went quite boldly in its first 2 episodes w/ an incredibly charming cast & shocking twists. A promising start. #StarTrek
@Salami_Inferno
The first two episodes were awesome! Everyone is in for an amazing ride next week! #StarTrekDiscovery @trekonlinegame @StarTrek
@dannysullivan
First two episodes of @startrekcbs were fantastic. @StarTrek is back, living long & prospering. Watch later this month! #StarTrekDiscovery
@jhoffman
STAR TREK DISCOVERY does the impossible. It's modern and enormous but still fundamentally STAR TREK. Q'apla!
@TrekGeekDan
Just awestruck on what I saw tonite. Anyone worried about @startrekcbs can rest easy. Thank U to all the cast & crew for what you have done

And the Entertainment Tonight editor...

@shananaomi
i am not allowed to spoil you for @startrekcbs so just let me say: it is phenomenal.

@TrekCore
Quick non-spoilery thoughts on the #StarTrekDiscovery premiere.
@TrekCore
.@actordougjones Saru is great. Lot more too him than just 'sensing death' seen in promos.
@TrekCore
Burnham is truly the center of this series - and @SonequaMG has what it takes.
@TrekCore
VFX work is really stunning. Everything in the trailers definitely in-progress versions of the effects.
@TrekCore
Any worries about stilted dialogue in teasers can be forgotten; definitely affected by editing for ads.
@TrekCore
If you liked the theme song, just wait until you see it paired with the opening credits sequence.

@EnterpriseExtra
My No.1 take on #StarTrekDiscovery after seeing the first two episodes tonight is: I can't believe we get 13 more episodes of this!!!

@EnterpriseExtra
It's Burnham's show! @SonequaMG is the center of some twisty & riveting character dynamics that are the strength of the first two episodes.

@EnterpriseExtra
I don't think much of the pre-show divisiveness is going to be quelled anytime soon. (Their loss.) But once fully consumed? Will be beloved.
@davidzappone
Thank you @startrekcbs for a great night. #StarTrekDiscovery is amazing, and a great addition to the mythology that is @StarTrek
@jaybushman
#DISCO!!!! @startrekcbs you're gonna wanna get your subscriptions to CBS All Access post-haste!

Deadline editor:

@joeutichi
Tonight I get to go to the premiere of a new Star Trek show. My twelve year-old self hates me.

@joeutichi
Also I've seen the seating chart and it seems like every living Star Trek cast member is coming.

@joeutichi
Star Trek: Discovery is the most reinvigorating thing to happen to Trek since TNG. The DNA is there, and I can't wait to see where it goes.

There are some good episode guides online for each of the series, telling you which episodes to skip. I would always recommend using those, because each series of this show has totally shite episodes that should be avoided like the plague.

Seems to be positive response so far! Cannot strawberry floating wait.
