Excuse me! The Voyage Home, First Contact and Future's End tell you to kindly strawberry float off.

Voyage Home was not a great Star Trek film. It wasn't Final Frontier or Insurrection levels of bad by any means, but it was definitely the worst of the 'good' Star Trek films.
Future's End wasn't very good either.

The last thing Star Trek needs is to be set on present day Earth.

How about City of the Edge of Forever?

That's a bit more difficult since it's set 'in the past' rather than the present for me.

Still time travel, though, and easily the best episode of the original series.

I just remembered DS9 had an episode about baseball so my Luton Town FC based series could be viable after all.
Maybe the Champions League has gone intergalactic and Luton Town are champions of Earth and they are playing to prevent a galaxy wide war.

That seems totaly believable to me :shifty: .

Seriously though I'm not sure where I stand on the shifting time periods for series as I just want a decent Trek series so as long as it has a decent story I'm not that bothered about setting.

Bryan Fuller's role is decreasing. :(

Bryan Fuller is stepping back from the showrunner role of CBS’ “Star Trek: Discovery” as he juggles production responsibilities on two other series, Variety has learned exclusively.

The decision was made late last week to hand the day-to-day showrunning reins to “Star Trek” exec producers Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts as “Discovery” gears up for the start of filming next month and a May premiere date. Fuller, who will remain an executive producer, will still be involved in breaking stories, and the show will continue to follow his vision for the universe that this latest “Trek” series will inhabit. Writer-director Akiva Goldsman is also expected to join “Discovery” in a top creative role. He’s envisioned as serving as producing support for Berg and Harberts, Fuller and exec producer Alex Kurtzman as they juggle the demands of the series that CBS is counting on to be the marquee selling point for subscriptions to its CBS All Access SVOD service.

I mean if he was doing a Hannibal revival fine but he isn't.

Oscar winner, although that is his only good movie by the looks of things.

Great choice. Given her age though she surely has to reasonably highly ranked, and I thought this series was about a lower level luitenant? So maybe she isn't playing the main character?

Think I saw mention of a Lieutenant Commander.

‘Star Trek Discovery’: Shazad Latif Cast As Klingon Commanding Officer Kol

EXCLUSIVE: British actor Shazad Latif, who played Dr. Henry Jekyll on Showtime’s Penny Dreadful, is segueing to another genre series. He has landed a prominent role in Star Trek: Discovery, the upcoming new Star Trek series for CBS All Access, CBS’ live streaming and VOD service. I hear that Latif is set to play Kol, the Klingon Commanding Officer. There was a Kol, Captain of the IKS ‘Avwi, in the Deep Space comics.

They just better not mess with the look of the Klingons yet again, although presumably will have to go for the TOS look to keep in Canon.

strawberry floating hell, if that's the case. This is one of the main defining things Star Trek is about.

It's weird seeing some parts of the media really hyping up the diversity and chirping about how its the first minority female lead and stuff. It seems apparent that they don't seem to properly understand that Star Trek has been doing that for years and doing it in a way where a big deal doesn't need to be made about it because that's the whole strawberry floating point about how humanity have progressed in the future.

Genuinely excited to see this as I have a feeling it will capture the essence of Star Trek in a way that the reboots can't seem to match.

It would be hard to make a story case for Starfleet being full of middle aged white Americans given it's supposed to have member from all over the galaxy. I'd actually like to see them try though as it would be interesting to see them justify it and at the same time claiming they aren't being hugely racist.

What about the contractual stipulation that all ships have to have at least one person in a managerial position from the UK. They can't get rid of the token Brit :x .

Right but I don't really see why that is so special for a series like Trek. She is the first lead to not be captain as well, which to me is more interesting than race.
