Okay, but she IS the first minority female lead in Trek though right?

Right but I don't really see why that is so special for a series like Trek. She is the first lead to not be captain as well, which to me is more interesting than race.

I'm sure it is

Who would you cast, and in which role?

There's only been 5 different Star Trek TV series. Its not like there have been lots of chances to cast a lead Star Trek character as a minority women and they haven't been doing it till now.

Not saying they've been wrong not to have done it before, I just find it weird that anyone would suggest it isn't noteworthy or worth celebrating now.

Well either way I don't really get concerned about the gender or race of the cast and am encouraged by the cast picks so far. May can't come soon enough.

Sasha is a character I've never taken to in Walking Dead, find her completely unmemorable and unlikable. Whether that's the actress playing her or the writing I'm not so sure but it doesn't fill me with confidence about her casting.

I also agree with the point that diversity is something that Star Trek has always done well, we've had strong female and minority characters in both leads and other significant roles before.

Well. Except for that whole "Planet of the savage black people" incident in TNG.

That episode is utterly cringeworthy. I'd take a Doctor Crusher love episode over that anyday.

Ricky Gervais, Martin Freeman, Mackenzie Crook and Lucy Davis. It would be a remake of the original series of Star Trek but set in Slough.

It's been a long time, getting from there to here.

Probably one of the worst theme tune of all time. Especially following the stellar tunes for DS9 and Voyager.

What makes it worse is that "Archer's Theme" (the end credits music) was originally intended to be the main theme, and that music is brilliant.
