If they charge a monthly fee...I'm out.

£350-£400 at launch.

Of course being a Sony system it'll be down to £250 within a year.

That would come for 3G like an iPad. It's not going to be something you have to have. My wife has a good plan with the iPad on Orange for 3GB and unlimited BT Open zone for £15 a month.

3GB is strawberry float all if you're downloading full NGP games.

Would people expect to download games over 3G?

There are a lot of idiots out there. They'll have downloaded Angry Birds on their iPhone, and then expect to be able to download Uncharted on their PSP2.

On iPhone and my Android, if you try to download anything large it won't let you.

Oh, well that's OK then.

Anyway, it's a pretty sexy looking piece of kit. Is it wrong that I particularly like that fact they've used a Helvetica-style font instead of a heavily stylised one?

Technically incredible, but with a price that is undoubtedly going to be between £300 & £400, I’m out.

And unless Sony are naïve, stupid…or both, 3DS is going to kick its arse. They have to be well aware of this. For whatever reason, Sony have taken the PlayStation brand – what was a very mass market product – and decided to twin it with their Vaio computers; or, if you’re looking at the competition, Apple.

Hopefully this time Sony & developers have learnt from the mistakes of the PSP. If you’re just going to sell people inferior multiformat games again, then you can genuinely go strawberry float yourself. What I want is games that are not only purpose built for the PSP2, but are designed for handheld play & are vaguely innovative. It’s not just all about fancy graphics.

I think one of the biggest positives however is the fact they’ve binned UMD & not replaced it with another disc based media.

NGP's not the catchiest acronym, is it? I think it should be called the Next Iteration Playstation Portable Light-Entertainment System.

Apparently PlayStation might be the final name.

I hope that Sony doesn't fall into the obvious trap:

Next Iteration Great Gaming Entertainment Reliable System.

(Ron Atkinson to front the adverts.)

Battery life is 4-5 hours(max settings?) And Sony are prepared to sell it at a loss.

The recently announced PSP2, codenamed Next Generation Portable, has a battery life of between four and five hours, Eurogamer has been told by a source.

Six to eight hours of life was Sony's original target, Eurogamer understands.

NGP pricing is also yet to be revealed, but Eurogamer was told this morning that Sony will "make a loss".

It'd make for a great marketing campaign, no?

I play with my NIPPLES on the bus.
I like that I can touch my NIPPLES from the front and the back!
I get my NIPPLES out whenever I'm on a train.
Great - now I can play Uncharted with my NIPPLES.

That's hardly a surprise though is it.

It doesn't really tell us what price they'll be selling at because a loss is probably anything under £400 (or perhaps even more than that).

Nah, they've got to call it something to differentiate the machine. You end up advertising the brand, rather than the product. Calling it just PlayStation is a marketing mess.
