The codename has apparently leaked out and it's Durango and there's talk of a touch screen in the controller.

What a completely original idea, Microsoft! When did you turn into Sony?

I wonder if the next Xbox will have the exact same dash as the 360?

It seems Microsoft are having a conference on the 29th February but I really can't see them announcing at that unless they plan a first half 2013 launch. Halo 4 might make an appearance though.

What's this about an X12 conference on the 29th? Isn't it just the Xbox 360 Spring Showcase event? That doesn't seem like the place to reveal the Nextbox, it seems more like the sort of event where they don't even have a keynote, just a 'round up the games press to let them get hands-on with some upcoming games' kinda thing...

Looks to me to be squarely focussed on XBOX360, that. I doubt we'll get any next-gen news...but we can hope.

It'll probably be just to show off some upcoming XBLA, Kinect and 360 titles to the press so they can get their hands on them for previews. Maybe we'll get a few trailers and info about some new games or ones we haven't heard about in a while?

It would be cool if the had some nextbox info though :)

According to a post on Gaf the Spring showcase stuff is embargoed to the 5th of March. MS are publishing 10 or 11 games for the remainder of the year plus whatever else is announced in the future.

It'll use the Metro style but I reckon the OS itself will be much more robust, possibly even using Windows 8 as a base much like the version of Windows Phone slated for release late this year will.

I can see them replacing the quick launch with something like iOS/Windows 7 style app switching where instead of closing your most recent program it just puts into a sleep mode and if its stays on the Quick launch it resumes straightaway. Taking the game disc out would of course remove it from the quick launch section. The likes of Autolog will need to be able to exist outside of the game as well so you can recieve notifications of people beating your times etc.

One thing I think Microsoft really need to nail is highlighting new content that may be of interest to you. Its something only Amazon have come close to getting right.

There is no way Nextbox will come out this year with the economy as it is and Halo IV due.

I'm gonna say you're right. Plus there's still life in the current gen and Wii U will satisfy any curiosity for new hardware. For me anyway.

What makes you think the economy will improve by next year ?

Companies can't take risk like that. They know If they release before Sony they'll make a killing.
